00:00James Van Der Beek unfortunately had to drop out of the long-awaited Dawson's Creek reunion
00:04due to his health. The actor, who went public with his stage 3 colorectal cancer battle in
00:10November 2024, explained to his Instagram followers over the weekend that he is out of
00:16commission. On Sunday he wrote, so you can imagine how gutted I was when two stomach viruses conspired
00:23to knock me out of commission and keep me grounded at the worst possible moment. He noted that the
00:28charity event put on in partnership with F Cancer was the evening he'd been looking forward to most
00:35since Michelle Williams came up with the idea in January. Van Der Beek and Williams were set to
00:40reunite with Busy Phillips, Katie Holmes, Joshua Jackson, and more former co-stars in New York City
00:47at the Richard Rogers Theater Monday night, September 22nd. He wrote, despite every effort,
00:53I won't get to be there. I won't get to stand on that stage and thank every soul in the theater
00:57for showing up for me and against cancer when I needed it most. He did, however, share who would
01:03be filling in for him writing, but I do have an understudy, a ridiculously overqualified replacement
01:09who would have been number one on my wishlist had I ever dreamed he'd be available. Someone my kids
01:15would definitely consider an upgrade over me. Plus, he already knows how to get to the theater,
01:21so that's convenient. It turns out Lin-Manuel Miranda is taking over for Van Der Beek. Yes,
01:27Hamilton himself. Van Der Beek gushed, thank you Lin-Manuel, you were a hero to my kids before,
01:33now you're a demigod. And concluded with, everyone please enjoy all the love in that room.
01:38Shine some on my family. I will be beaming and receiving from afar in a bed in Austin.
