00:00Brendan Liao is with us from Vancouver. He's a recent graduate and therefore I
00:03assume that's why you're also a stay-at-home son. That is correct. Professional
00:06stay-at-home son. Pretty good gig if you can get it. What is a stay-at-home son?
00:10Welcome to Weird But True, your home for the buzziest and strangest stories from
00:15The Post. You may recognize Jeopardy! champ Brandon Liao. Back in May the
00:19recent college grad admitted to the millions of viewers watching at home
00:22that he happily moochers off his parents. Brendan walked away with viral fame and
00:27over $59,000 in game show winnings. It turns out he's not alone. A growing
00:33number of men are taking on the traditional roles that a stay-at-home wife
00:36might do. From cooking, to cleaning, to running errands. Except it's all for their
00:41mum and dad. We've certainly come a long way since Michael Keaton starred in the
00:451983 comedy Mr. Mum. Where does Bobby keep the extra diapers? Four decades later this
00:50new role has been dubbed Trad Son. A twist on the popular trad wives of TikTok who
00:55embrace homemade everything. But before you jump to any judgmental conclusions,
01:00the New York Post spoke exclusively with one of these guys to find out more.
01:04Meet 33-year-old Luke Parkhurst. He proudly identifies as a stay-at-home son.
01:09While his mom Patty works as a flight attendant and a real estate agent,
01:13Luke earns his keep as an unpaid pool boy and personal chef. Back in July the former
01:19door-to-door solar salesman ditched his grueling job making $170,000 a year because he said it didn't,
01:25quote, feed his soul. Get in line buddy. So Luke moved back in with Mommy Dearest and
01:30called the unpaid position his dream job. Although there is one glaring caveat. Dating.
01:36Luke confessed, if I ever want to get into a relationship I know I can't tell a woman.
01:41By the way I have a roommate and it's my mom. But for now Patty and Luke are all about their
01:45unique arrangement. She even called him her, quote, hub son. Um, yeah.
