00:00You know that zip you get from a crispy fountain diet coke? Well, I'm here to ruin that, but I
00:06promise it's not all bad news. A new study found that artificially sweetened beverages like diet
00:11soda, or unfortunately putting Splenda in that cup of coffee you might be enjoying right this
00:16very second, may be doing a lot more damage than regular old sugar ever could. The Chinese study
00:22found an increased risk of the most common liver disease in the U.S. when they compared diet soda
00:26drinkers to those who enjoyed the original sugary beverage. Diet drinks are marketed as a healthier
00:32choice, and I am using some giant air quotes here, thanks to their lower calories and lack of real
00:38sugar. But research increasingly suggests these healthier options can lead to all sorts of negative
00:44outcomes. Other studies have found increased levels of type 2 diabetes and even heart troubles linked to
00:50the artificial sweeteners. That shouldn't be all that shocking, though. It's very similar to what
00:54we saw with all the junk they put in food to make it nonfat in the 90s and the aughts. Remember spray butter?
