Transcript
00:00yeah thanks everyone we've got Tammy Beaumont from the England women's team
00:04here today I've got a few people online so I'll obviously take questions from
00:07everyone in the room but I'll also ask them on behalf of the UK journalists at
00:11home but starting with you guys in the room good afternoon given that the team
00:17has already qualified for the semi-finals what objectives have you set
00:20for tomorrow will we see the same playing eleven play or are you going to
00:25have a kind of a mix and match for tomorrow's game given that it's the
00:29final game before your semi-final yeah I guess I'm not being involved in
00:34selection and we don't know the team yet I don't know what what the selection will
00:39be but for us I think it's about trying to stick to what we're doing and get
00:43back to winning ways you know really respect this New Zealand team that while
00:48they haven't qualified they're a high quality team so we want to play well and
00:52we want to get back on on winning ways and keep you know putting our best foot
00:56forward in and how we go about our business and on a personal note you had
01:00a good outing against Australia but it wasn't quite enough for a victory so
01:04anything you are looking at specifically for this match tomorrow yeah I think it's
01:09just about you know starting again and I think opening the batting at times can
01:14be quite difficult and you know you face sometimes the best bowlers or most
01:18challenging conditions and you know you just got to make the most of it if you do
01:22get in so yes start again on zero and go again and see what happens and yeah for
01:27me it's just a case of if I do get in and make sure it's a it's a big one and for
01:32the team to try and get up to a winning total yeah New Zealand skipper Sophie
01:37Divine is retiring from the format after tomorrow's game so any particular memory
01:41that comes to your mind when we talk about her yeah many many memories of Sophie Divine I
01:46think you know what what an amazing career she's had for New Zealand and
01:51across the world and yeah I guess my memories with her always about
01:56competing and getting in the battle and yeah plenty of good battles knowing you
02:01know you know you've got to be on it with her whether she's in the ball with the
02:03ball with the bat or in the field and one of my earliest memories is probably her
02:07sledging me in in a game in in the West Indies and yeah thankfully we came out on
02:12the winning side that day but certainly got me fired up and made me aware of what a
02:16character she is but what an amazing player she's been for New Zealand and
02:20particularly how she's led the team over the last few years I think hopefully
02:23she'll be really proud of what she's done in in an international shirt as you can
02:29see it's quite hot and humid right here now but there's a cyclone warning for
02:34it's expected to make a landfall on October 27th so we don't know hopefully
02:39there will be a full match tomorrow so are you taking that into consideration for
02:43maybe batting first or bowling first tomorrow I hadn't heard about a cyclone
02:49warning to be honest but no I think that's something for Nat and Lottie to
02:54talk about obviously it's a day game as well so that that makes things slightly
02:58different with not having any lights to come into play and knowing what the
03:03pitch will do and obviously it's our first game here so we're gonna have to go
03:06back through the stats and see what other teams did and what was successful so
03:10yeah our stats team we working hard to tell us what to do at the toss later on
03:15it I mean nice to see you again first question the semi-finalists along
03:23expected lines or were you expecting somebody else in there as in the four
03:28semi-finals and I don't know really I think for us we were only ever focused on
03:33us getting there and certainly wanted to get in that top four and you know
03:38mission accomplished on on that regard and then on to you know winning that
03:42semi-final it's probably the best best four teams in the world though the most
03:48consistent teams in the world at the moment and New Zealand are probably gutted
03:52to miss out I think they're a top quality team and could have pushed as well so I
03:56would have expected it to be four of those five but yeah I guess it's exciting to
04:01now be in the mix and you know one good game and then maybe another good game and
04:05who knows what can happen it's today South Africa versus Australia match going
04:10to be on the screen somewhere during training or when you're back at the
04:13hotel any particular preference as to who you want to play in the semi-final no
04:18not at all I think for me World Cup cricket if you want to win the World Cup
04:22you've got to beat the best teams and I think in a one-off knockout match you
04:27know if we play our way and play the way we have been at times in this
04:31tournament we can be any team so you've got to beat the best team so whether
04:35it's Australia South Africa or even India again and bring it on we're gonna
04:40have to win final one the league stage comes to a conclusion tomorrow what have
04:45been your key takeaways from the reception you've seen across India in Colombo
04:49it's an India World Cup after all and ODI won at that pleased with what you've
04:53seen so far yeah I think so I think obviously the highlight would be that that
04:57England India game in indoor I think the the crowd was amazing and and supported
05:04good cricket and not just the Indian team I think it'd be great that even if we
05:09don't play India again if the crowds come out and support that kind of the good
05:13cricket in in the semi-finals in the final but yeah certainly you know huge
05:17cricket fans and I've loved seeing you know everyone all these kids waving at us
05:22on the bus and and all the reception we had it's been brilliant I want to
05:32question just here how do you view in England generally in this World Cup and
05:38second thing what are you some other area that England are still looking for
05:44strength and where they seen in the working on more in the match against New
05:49England yeah I think we're really pleased with how we've gone as a team I
05:56think you know lots of people have contributed at different times I think
06:00particularly our spin attacks been been really good particularly you know
06:05Lindsay Smith I think it's been a real find for us in in the power play in
06:09particular really keeping it tight and picking up some handy wickets I think at
06:13times you know different batters have stood up and and put in that kind of
06:17bigger contribution but we probably haven't had the perfect batting innings
06:21so far where you know we have you know one or two really big partnerships and
06:26that's certainly something we talk a lot about us trying to extend that
06:29partnership for as long as we can but I think for me we've shown improvement
06:32throughout we spoke about our death batting before the last game and the way
06:36Alice Capsie and Charlie Dean went about their business was really brilliant
06:40against Australia and the death bowling against India was brilliant so you know
06:44there's lots of little things we keep talking about and keep trying to improve
06:47but I guess we still haven't had that really complete game maybe outside the
06:52South Africa game but didn't go 50 overs so I guess we'll see but I think for us
06:57it's always just about adding those finer touches
06:59and last one what about your personal experience in India as a playing
07:04kirketer as a visitor kirketer what about feeling how is the atmosphere in the women
07:11kirkete particular sorry what was that yeah I think touring India sometimes it's tough with kind of the heat and
07:23sometimes yeah kind of the experience but at the same time I think it's a brilliant place
07:29to play cricket and I love how passionate the fans are and I think it's been a great
07:34experience this World Cup and yeah I think it's it's been good fun
07:37just a few from me on behalf of the British press and how do you approach the New Zealand
07:43game with qualification already secured is it easier or harder to perform with that pressure off
07:48yeah I think it's a lot about looking at the bigger picture and that personal pride
07:54of trying to go out there and and put in a really solid performance I think like I said I don't think
08:00we've had the the full 100 over performance that we maybe want want in the last few games so I think
08:08it's something that we're definitely highlighting and putting our own professional standards on and
08:13something we'll be targeting and you know we're playing in a World Cup in India and we're in a
08:18semi-final so I think we're incredibly motivated to keep putting in the performances keeping in the
08:23hard work and yeah just because we're already qualified I think it's no different playing
08:29playing New Zealand we know how good they are how competitive they are so we know we've got to turn
08:33up and put in a good performance and you know get that momentum back going into a semi-final
08:37and what lessons have you learned from the Australia match has it given you a reminder of
08:42the levels that you'll need to meet to win this tournament yeah I think so I think it was a really
08:46good time to to be tested you know having only already qualified it um it obviously was pressure
08:52off a little bit but I think in a way you keep um you know you keep testing yourself against the best
08:57and I think it's the only way to really learn and and reflect well and work out you know how we
09:02can come back better next time and there was parts of the game that I think we were really in the
09:06contest really in the fight uh both power plays I thought um you know we probably came out on top
09:12of both of them and it's just a case of trying to extend it for longer I think a team like
09:16Australia you give them an inch and they'll take a mile and um you know we've got to just find a
09:20way to do it for for a hundred overs and and keep pushing pushing them back and and putting them
09:25under pressure and seeing what happens and just finally reaching the semi-finals was billed as
09:29the minimum requirement for this team does it already feel like progress has been made or does it
09:34need to be a final to show that I think for us we've never put a label on it or we've never really
09:39put an expectation on ourselves we've spoken about our processes and how we want to play our game and
09:45what we're going to do as a group and talk a lot about writing our own narrative and I think we're
09:50allowing allowing everyone else to decide what is acceptable for this team to to achieve and you
09:57know we're certainly just focused one game at a time we've got um at least two games left in this
10:02world cup and we're just you know reflecting honestly looking at um looking at each game in
10:07terms of how can we improve what did we do well and what's next and um that's what we're going to
10:11keep doing and for us if that means a semi-final or a final I think we'll be proud of what we've
10:16done but we're certainly not done yet well thanks thanks very much everybody
10:20you
