00:00are the cameras all good at the back yeah excellent okay we've got England
00:04assistant coach Tim Saudi we're going to start with the UK media as always so
00:08we'll just go the gentleman here in the middle in the second row yet David go
00:11ahead please hi Tim I'll get the obvious question out the way how is it in being
00:16in the rival camp I know you obviously did this job and when we were in New
00:20Zealand back in November does it make a difference now that we're in a tournament
00:24and there's something riding on it yeah it is a little bit strange seeing the
00:28guys around the hotel and obviously with that series in New Zealand end of last
00:32year but yeah this it's a great opportunity to work with work with the
00:37England side and but yeah that's you always want New Zealand cricket to do
00:41well always always follow them closely but but yeah with now on the role that I'm
00:46in it's yeah things are slightly different and looking forward to to
00:48going out there against a good side and and some good mates as well I just ask
00:53what you make sorry not moving what we make but how has it been working with
00:56Joffre and yeah what what do you make of him as well yeah brilliant he's
01:00obviously a class bowler and played a played a bit against him but I get to
01:05know him in a different level over the last almost a year has been been
01:09brilliant and to see him and how he goes about his stuff and and just chatting
01:12absolutely loves cricket loves bowling so so yeah it's been been great to work
01:16alongside yeah such a such a great bowler do you work with anything
01:22specifically Jamie was talking the other day about how we've helped him with his
01:26length so I mean maybe talk a bit about that but but with Joffre is there anything you
01:30specifically tell him or try to sort of influence on him or do you just sort of
01:33just let him go um no he's always he's inquisitive he's he like I said he loves
01:38cricket loves chatting cricket so a lot of informal chats around just just cricket and
01:43how he's going um and I think the last few games he's sort of sort of kicked into
01:47another gear um and uh and hopefully continues in that way over the next next
01:51few games as well but um but yeah nothing nothing in particular I think he's got
01:54such a great skill set um something about fast move the ball um unbelievable amount
01:59of skill um sometimes almost having too much skill and just trying to trying to
02:03narrow down and what's what's effective at the time so um yeah I think he's been
02:06brilliant the last last few games for us and and hopefully over can can continue
02:10that over the next few games we'll go to Simon just in front and then gentleman
02:14here the other day Jamie overton was talking to us about the work you've done
02:18with him on uh modifying his lengths for for these conditions and obviously it seems
02:23to benefit to them can you talk a bit about that I look at um Jamie as a bowler and
02:30he's got so many great attributes he's a big guy um can bowl fast um can move the ball
02:35um and and a lot of the time big guys they tend to bowl on the slightly shorter
02:40side and you come to this part of the world where the service is slightly slower
02:43um that that may not be effective so it's just about those guys and and any
02:47bowler trying to be effective in in all parts of the world not just the
02:51conditions you sort of grow up in so so for him just uh yeah we've just been
02:54having a few chats around what links may work um obviously jumping between um having
02:59the series here and then having to go to India and then now coming back it's um although
03:03you're in the subcontinent it's all slightly different everywhere you go
03:05even from here to to Pala Kelly slightly different so just um just making sure
03:09guys yeah and and Jam is Jam is great to work with he's um he's keen to learn um and
03:14and evolve his game as well so um yeah that's just one of the things we've been
03:18we've been chatting a lot about and uh Joff has been bowling brilliantly the last
03:23few games but at the very start of the tournament perhaps less well uh has anything
03:28changed with him have you worked with him at all to to bring his levels up like
03:32really have um no I think it just comes with um he's obviously coming back from
03:36an injury um that he suffered during the ashes and um played the the T20 series
03:40here against against Sri Lanka um but just getting back into the groove you're
03:44playing against sides you probably haven't seen a lot um sometimes the the
03:48faster you bowl and the guys are sort of throwing their hands at it that can in
03:51this format can um you can walk off and and not have the results you're after but I
03:55think um the good sign is that we've we've seen over the last few games he he looks
04:00like he's getting better and better so um so that bodes well for the for the next next um next
04:04few
04:04games England haven't played the perfect game yet as players have admitted to us after every one of
04:11them um pressure is kind of off this one they've already qualified for the semi-finals do you think
04:17that might help players to to you know up their performance levels for this next fixture or does
04:23it not really make a difference I think everyone wants to do well every time you play um the nature
04:28of cricket is you miss out a lot more than you you don't so I think um yeah everyone wants
04:32to go out
04:32and do well um we've been I think it's a sign of the a great sign on this this side
04:37we had a great
04:38t20 series win uh against Sri Lanka um in these conditions and we've we've um we've only dropped
04:44one game in the last however many games um and we've won in different ways which is uh which is
04:49a great sign that we haven't played the perfect game or um um or played a a complete um performance
04:56across all three formats but we've still found ways to win which is a a good sign a good sign
05:00and um and I think you look at the the nature of the set as the lineup um if it
05:05does come off and
05:05we do have the perfect game then it should be a a a great one to to witness but I
05:10think at the
05:10moment different guys should have been in different guys contributing um someone like Will Jacks in a
05:15reasonably new role role for him um to to be able to come in and have the impact he's had
05:20in this
05:20tournament um and and I'm sure those other guys that that haven't contributed as much as they would
05:25have liked will um are any only um only a a small margin away from uh being being their brilliant
05:31sales
05:32as well yeah we saw New Zealand adapting on the fly to some of the conditions out there yesterday
05:39uh just in terms of the team with you guys how how well do you think you're equipped to kind
05:46of adapt to
05:47the different conditions and adjust as the game goes on yeah I think got um a very well balanced side
05:54you obviously come here and it seems to to be a bit heavier on the on the spin side I
05:58think you look at
05:59the the the bowlers and the and the bettors that um that offer your spin option as well um when
06:04you come
06:04to the to grounds like this we saw in the last t20 in um and in palakali in the tri
06:09series where um
06:10Jacob Bethel came in and had such a such a big impact um so having the ability to to have
06:16guys
06:16that have it is seem friendlier and it's been friendly to be able to um chop and change much
06:21like the the New Zealand side I think we saw last night the the ability to have bowlers that can
06:25then
06:25bowl you a few overs um when you you get into a game and the the surface offers something like
06:30that it's um very handy to have so I think both sides have got got pretty well balanced um lineups
06:35that can cover cover both pace and scene and uh just building on that last question there's still
06:40not been any sort of real statement uh victory for you guys but now with aside from tomorrow's game
06:47just two games away from essentially a another world cup win um is it is it a positive that you
06:54kind of haven't hit top gear or is it something you're concerned about um no I think it's been
06:59brilliant that like I touched on earlier about how we've been able to win in different ways and
07:03different guys stepping up um and uh and a lot of the time the the probably the um the guys
07:09that
07:09aren't as is well known for being the being the dangerous players I mentioned Will Jacks Jamie
07:14Overton guys like that who have come in and had had big impacts Dawson um so yeah I think um
07:20although
07:21we haven't played the perfect game and to sit here with being already qualified with the game to go
07:25it's uh it's it's only only a good thing and hopefully we can we can string a few good performances
07:30together over the next next um next few games hi Tim uh you've spoken about the conditions here but
07:36just going back to it like what are you expecting out of Palakale uh Colombo basically you have played
07:41at Palakale Mumbai Kolkata and sort of venues which are much faster than what you'll be on offer here
07:48so in terms of just uh could you talk us about the conditions and how you're looking to skin the
07:52cat
07:53basically at this venue yeah slightly different yeah um we've seen spins played such a big part here it's a
07:58big
07:58ground and and offered plenty for the spinners so um like it doesn't mean seamers can't have an impact
08:04we've seen seamers still have an impact over in the games as well Matt Henry last night um starting
08:09things off so I think touching back on the the balance of the side being able to have guys um
08:14that
08:14can offer spin options and as well as having obviously pace pace bowlers and plenty of spin options
08:19both sides um both sides I think have have multiple options on on on a surface like that
08:26any more questions Dave and then we'll finish the lower ranks as well
08:30could I just ask about your role obviously you you left during the ashes to take up a freelance gig
08:36you're back now how how did that go um and what is your role going for it is just for
08:42this world cup
08:43or is it like on a role in versus um yeah I'm I'm very grateful for the opportunity to to
08:47work with
08:48such a such a great side and I've loved the time I've had um I had a two-year existing
08:52deal in the
08:53in the ILT20 um which I had to fulfill they changed obviously moved the dates from January to December which
08:59clashed clashed with the ashes um but being a part of the build-up in the in the first ashes
09:04test was
09:04was unbelievable I would have loved to have been a part of all five um working with the guys in
09:09the
09:09English summer and then in the build-up um and just being a part of an ashes series uh being
09:14a Kiwi
09:14kid um to have that opportunity to to work with work with the England side of the national series
09:18was was awesome it was just unfortunate that the the dates were changed and and uh I guess uh um
09:24fulfilling a a two-year contract with um in the ILT20 so um yeah it's disappointing I would have
09:29loved to have been there for four or five and um and hopefully can continue to work with them um
09:33building some some good relationships with the bowlers and um and really enjoying um offering back
09:38to the to the game that's given me so much and and uh and and the opportunity to work with
09:43like I
09:43said a a great cricketing team um and and plenty of skillful bowlers sorry there's it is a rolling
09:49deal is it it's like sort of series on series world cup on um yeah well at the at the
09:56moment with
09:56obviously a few playing commitments still last year um um we'll get through this world cup and then then
10:01then go from there but yeah like I said I'd love to uh continue working with with these guys um
10:06loved it so
10:07far love working with uh with Brendan and uh and uh and and the other coaches as well
10:11thank you um so we're now at the business end of a world cup maximum of three games to go
10:18um
10:19is the atmosphere in the group any different now given the focus and the tension and the um pressure
10:28than it was say in New Zealand in in in October I think you turn up in a bilateral series
10:35and um
10:36and yeah you you you you turn up to a world cup it's slightly different obviously there's a little
10:40bit more at stake um but I think we came here to obviously get through the initial part and then
10:46get
10:46through the super eights and we've we've done that and um obviously one more one more step to go but
10:50the the mood in the camp is brilliant it's a it's a it's a side that um all the lads
10:55get on so well
10:56um great spirit amongst the group and and we're looking forward to tomorrow I think you can't
11:01cast your eyes too too far forward although we've qualified um we've got a great opportunity for them
11:06to go out and and represent England again uh tomorrow um against a a good New Zealand side
11:11which should be a good game on on what will probably be a tricky surface just lastly uh there's been
11:18a bit
11:19of focus on Josh Butler a wonderful player who's just a bit short of form uh how is he around
11:25the
11:25group does he internalize these things or can you not really see any difference in him
11:29uh Josh I've played with Josh and played a lot against Josh and um and one of the most dangerous
11:35white ball bettors to to have played the game um I think when you when you're when you're that good
11:39and you have a a little blip um then I guess you feel a little bit more pressure but he's
11:44he's hitting
11:44it as well as he has in the nets um I'm sure he's only a couple of good strikes away
11:48from um another
11:49amazing innings from that we've seen so many of of or from Josh over over the years so um yeah
11:55um he's
11:56he's doing his business doing everything he can to to go out and perform and and that's the
11:59the hard thing about a batter you you sort of have a couple of low ones and then but it
12:03doesn't mean
12:04doesn't take away from all the great things he's done for for England and and um and in t20 cricket
12:09over the years okay thank you
12:10okay thank you
12:11okay thank you
12:11okay thank you
12:11okay thank you
