Asean member states have enlisted high ranking officers to discuss Myanmar’s invitation to send observers for its planned year end elections, said Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan.
Speaking at his press conference at the 47th Asean Summit and Related Summits on Saturday (Oct 25), Mohamad said senior officials have been tasked to deliberate on the matter after discussions among Asean foreign ministers on the bloc’s five-point consensus.
00:00Adakah mesyarat FM tadi ada membincangkan jemputan Myanmar
00:04agar negara anggota menghantar pemahati PILM Raya?
00:14dalam kita berbincang tentang 5 point consensus
01:00As I mentioned just now that we already instructed or we already tasked our senior officers to monitor and to report to us.
01:12And special envoy has a very big task to report the situation there.
01:17And because to us we remain firm on these elections, must be fair, transparent and inclusive.
01:25That is the principle of ASEAN.
01:29More or less than that I think quite difficult for ASEAN to recognize the elections.
01:39That's why we encourage the government to have dialogue with the stakeholders and stakeholders be allowed to participate in the election.
