00:00A New York appellate court just delivered a big win for President Trump
00:03and a blow to Democrats who tried to destroy him with lawfare.
00:08The judges tossed out a ridiculous half-billion-dollar penalty imposed on Trump
00:12in State Attorney General Letitia James' totally political civil fraud case.
00:17They called the fine unconstitutionally excessive, and boy was it ever.
00:22That ridiculously enormous fine was meant to hamstring Trump as he ran for president,
00:27though Attorney General James and trial court judge Arthur Engeron
00:31were claiming that it was meant to deter others from imitating Trump's supposedly fraudulent actions.
00:38Those actions, by the way, harmed exactly no one.
00:41The bankers and the insurers he supposedly defrauded by overestimating the value of his assets,
00:47they never complained, nor tried to sue him.
00:50In fact, they all made money on the deals, and they were thrilled with them.
00:53Trump had told them in advance that his estimates were not audited,
00:58and he expected them to do their own due diligence.
01:01While two of the five judges did back the fraud verdict, two others demanded a whole new trial.
01:07And one of the judges, Judge David Friedman, wanted the whole case immediately dismissed.
01:12He was livid, fuming that James, quote,
01:15her ultimate goal was not market hygiene, but political hygiene,
01:19ending with the derailment of President Trump's political career
01:22and the destruction of his real estate business.
01:25The voters have obviously rendered a verdict on his political career.
01:30This bench today unanimously derails the effort to destroy his business.
01:34That was the judge's comment.
01:36Remember, James campaigned on promises to find something, anything, to target Trump for.
01:42It was a witch hunt, and that should have disqualified her from the start.
01:46But the nothing-burgered civil charges that were lodged against Trump
01:50were the best that she could find.
01:52And if they had wound up before a less biased judge than Angeron,
01:56they would have died long ago.
01:58Meanwhile, the rest of the Democrats' attempts to use lawfare to destroy Trump
02:02have also mostly collapsed.
02:04Two federal criminal cases against Trump are now kaput.
02:08The Georgia state prosecution imploded.
02:11And in the one criminal case where Trump was found guilty
02:14in deeply anti-Trump Manhattan,
02:17the judge socked him with no penalties whatsoever.
02:20By the way, the president is appealing that decision, too,
02:23on pretty strong grounds.
02:24As Judge Friedman suggested,
02:26Democrats thought if they couldn't stop Trump through normal Democratic means,
02:30they'd get the courts to stop him.
02:32To save democracy, of course.
02:34Looks like they failed on both fronts.
