00:20It is hard to make out exactly what the girls are saying in the clip,
00:23because they are frantically yelling with thick Scottish accents.
00:26But at the beginning of the video, the younger girl seemingly accuses the man
00:30of treating her inappropriately in some way,
00:32before she hurls the accusation,

01:17and the meaning of which remains unclear.
01:18Two other people can be seen watching the incident unfold in the video,
01:22a person in a pink shirt,
01:24and the foot of someone wearing black and white Adidas slides.
01:26As the video has been spreading,
01:28rumors have swirled about what led to the confrontation,
01:30which played out around 7.30pm on Saturday, August 23rd,
01:34when police received a call about a
01:36female youth with a bladed weapon in St. Anne Lane, Dundee.
01:39Several police cars reportedly responded,
01:41and the 12-year-old girl was then arrested and charged,
01:44which has outraged many people on social media,
01:46as a gross injustice.
01:48One of the most common threads of speculation
01:50is that the girls were protecting themselves from the man,
01:52whom people online have accused without proof
01:55of being an illegal migrant.

02:15which linked to a video with the text,
02:17What type of country allows foreigners
02:18to rape and torture thousands of their children?
02:21Then they arrest the girls
02:22who carry protection for themselves.
02:24As that incendiary version of the story
02:26has made its way across social media,
02:28images of the girl brandishing the knife and hatchet
02:31have been turned into a meme,
02:32in which she's made out to be a viral icon
02:34or a folk hero,
02:36even being compared to Scottish rebel,
02:38William Wallace,
02:39and being called Dundee's Braveheart.
02:41Fans can even buy a t-shirt,
02:42but it turns out the narrative playing out online
02:45is far from what happened in reality.
02:47That is because according to Scottish police,
02:49the only one who did anything wrong
02:51is the 12-year-old girl.
02:53According to authorities,
02:54it was the girls who approached both the man
02:56who was filming the video
02:57and the woman he was with,
02:58not the other way around.

03:02Nicola Russell, read,
03:03We are aware of misinformation being shared
03:05on social media
03:06in relation to an incident
03:07where a Bulgarian couple
03:08were approached by youths
03:10in St. Anne Lane, Dundee
03:11on Saturday, August 23rd, 2025.
03:14And according to the BBC,
03:16no one else outside of the 12-year-old
03:18was believed to have been arrested
03:19or wanted in connection with the incident.
03:22The Daily Mail has identified
03:23the individual taking the video
03:25as 21-year-old Fatos Ali Dumana,
03:28a family man who says he and his wife
03:30legally moved from Bulgaria to the UK four years ago.
03:34Now he's speaking out with his version of the story.
03:37Dumana told the outlet that he and his wife
03:39were on their way to a shop
03:40when the young girl started messing with him,
03:43something he says was captured
03:44by the store's surveillance cameras.
03:46He also told the Daily Mail that
03:47there was one more person also who told them,
03:49the police,
03:50she was attacking me
03:51and calling me a f***ing migrant.
03:53I'm not an illegal migrant.
03:54I have done nothing wrong.
03:56I have not done anything.
03:57I did not hit them.
03:58I am a human, not an animal.

04:02that police confirmed to the outlet
04:03their investigation into the incident
04:05had concluded.

04:10of the Scottish Parliament,

04:13with a post that read,

04:17His wife, Nadia El-Nakla,
04:19who was also the equality spokesperson
04:20for the Dundee SNP group,
04:22told the Courier that,
04:23it is also clear that elements
04:25of the far right
04:25are attempting to hijack this incident
04:27to spread a racist,
04:28anti-immigration agenda.
04:30This is both dangerous
04:31and divisive,
04:32and it threatened the cohesion
04:33of our communities.
