00:00Someone stole 12 tons of KitKat bars from a truck in Europe.
00:04The chocolate is still missing, the memes are not.
00:07Here's what's happening.
00:08On March 26th, a truck left a factory in central Italy bound for Poland,
00:12carrying 413,793 limited edition Formula One KitKats.
00:18And it just vanished.
00:20Nobody knows exactly where along this 800-mile route it disappeared.
00:24In a statement, KitKat UK said, quote,
00:27We are working closely with local authorities and supply chain partners to investigate.
00:32The good news?
00:33There are no concerns for consumer safety and supply is not affected.
00:37This led to other brands like Domino's UK posting in solidarity, saying, quote,
00:41We would like to share our thoughts and condolences with KitKat following their recent sad news.
00:46On a completely unrelated note, we will now be selling a new KitKat pizza!
00:50Now, jokes aside, KitKat says cargo theft across Europe is an escalating issue.
00:55It's not just a European problem, either.
00:57Back in December, we reported a $400,000 lobster heist right here in the U.S.
01:02Still unsolved, by the way.
01:03Thieves are out here building entire black markets, one stolen delicacy at a time.
01:07In a separate statement, KitKat said, quote,
01:09We've always encouraged people to have a break, but it seems thieves have taken the message too, literally.
01:14Whilst we appreciate the criminal's exceptional taste, the fact remains that cargo theft is an escalating issue.
01:20So obviously, people want answers.
01:22One user called out KitKat directly, asking,
01:25How does losing 12 tons of KitKat bars not affect supply?
01:29But others are rallying behind the brand and drawing attention to the very real rise of cargo theft globally.
01:34So here's the big question.
01:36Should companies be doing more to secure their shipments?
01:39Or is this something that the governments should be fixing?
