00:00I'm Jane Bradley, Arts and Culture Correspondent at The Scotsman and I'm here this morning at the
00:07Edinburgh Comedy Awards where the nominations for best show have just come out yesterday.
00:11It's a very exciting atmosphere, it's known as the Oscars of comedy and everybody is very excited
00:17to find out later this week who will win the coveted first prize. I'm here at the nominations
00:24for the Edinburgh Comedy Awards with six of the eight nominees for the best show award.
00:31They're slightly chaotic this morning because I think they've possibly all been out celebrating
00:34all night, is that right?
00:35No.
00:36I was in bed at 11.
00:37Two in the morning.
00:39The circadian rhythm. Four hours, I've learned.
00:42Four hours is very good. Four is better than six. And I'll tell you, one hour is worse than
00:49four hours.
00:50So for the two of you with sunglasses on, can you just tell me a bit about how you set
00:54how you're feeling, how you're celebrating?
00:55I feel pretty good. I'm celebrating by wearing my favourite sunglasses with my friend Dan
01:00Tierney.
01:01Yeah, me too.
01:03And how does it feel to have got the nomination and found out yesterday?
01:06It feels amazing. I mean, look at the list. Look at the company. Incredible stuff.
01:13And Sam, what about you? How do you feel?
01:15I feel great.
01:16Yeah.
01:17Good to hear. And the squirrels?
01:18The squirrels. Look at him. He's very excited.
01:21The squirrels are turning me on.
01:23Isn't he?
01:24And cut.
01:25I'm here with the best newcomer nominees for the Edinburgh Comedy Awards. Hello everybody.
01:30Hello.
01:31It's not quite nowhere to put the mic, but how are you all feeling? Is that exciting day?
01:36Yeah.
01:37Oh yeah.
01:38I'm a bit tired. I feel like we're dreaming, but it's so cool.
01:42Yeah, but it's real. It's real.
01:43And when you all came to the Fringe this year, were you expecting to be standing here today?
01:46Yeah.
01:47Yeah.
01:48I don't know.
01:49No, but yeah. How wild though. It's pretty cool.
01:52Great. And what about the rest of you?
01:53No.
01:54No.
01:55No.
01:56No.
01:57I'm wearing binoculars. Clearly I wasn't meant to be here.
01:58That was great. Well, thank you so much for joining us and good luck in the next couple
02:11of days.
02:12Thanks.
02:13So I'm here with two more of the award nominees for the best show award. Congratulations guys.
02:20So how's it feeling today?
02:22Tired.
02:23Yeah, it's early.
02:24It's early.
02:25It's early.
02:26Deeply exhausting.
02:27Yeah. We're children of the night, I think. What time did we go?
02:29Yeah, 9, 15.
02:30Yeah, yeah, yeah. I'm seven. Yeah.
02:32Yeah, yeah. Tired.
02:33So this is the earliest you've been up all right now?
02:34Yes.
02:35Yeah.
02:36By like maybe four to five hours.
02:38Yeah, we're deeply nocturnal at this point.
02:40So what's it going to be like over the last few days of your run? Is it going to feel
02:43quite nerve-wracking waiting to hear the results?
02:46Not until you said that, no.
02:48No, I really hadn't thought of it at all.
02:50Okay, cool.
02:51But now, now I want to sleep.
02:52Now you're terrible.
02:53Great.
02:54That's good.
02:55That's good.
02:56And how many more shows have you got to go?
02:58Three or four?
02:59I got five.
03:00We're on a weird Monday.
03:02Whoa, whoa, whoa.
03:03Okay, so four.
03:04Four for me.
03:05Not doing a weird Monday.
03:06Yeah.
03:07Great.
03:08Thanks for the all and hope it goes well.
03:10Thank you so much.
03:11Thank you so much.
03:12I feel like the other group was so much more fun than us.
03:15They had a squirrel.
03:17They had cool glasses.
03:18We didn't have any props.
03:19We have no props.
03:20Get the diaper.
03:21We have, you know, but I think we're all really good at what we do and people should
03:26come see it.
03:27Donald Taffner, who's one of the main sponsors of the Edinburgh Comedy Awards, has been to see
03:32109 shows this fringe so far.
03:35How's that feeling?
03:36It's tiring.
03:37My last show was last night at 1 o'clock in the morning.
03:41But it's a fun journey.
03:43Every year I try to see one more show than I did the previous year.
03:46So this year I will be seeing at least 129 shows.
03:49And you're not even actually on the panel for the Edinburgh Comedy Awards.
03:52No, this is all either for my enjoyment or a lot of times it's business.
03:57It's to see potential people to work with in television in the future.
04:01We have some talent agencies and production companies that we work with.
04:04So we're involved in 72 shows here right now.
04:07Yeah.
04:08So in terms of the awards, what's the feeling this year?
04:10I mean, everyone seems very excited.
04:12I think it's wide open.
04:13It really is.
04:14I mean, as always, there's a ton of shows which could have been nominated as well.
04:18This year in particular, for me, has been a very good year.
04:21Of the 109 shows I've seen so far, there's only three I kind of regret seeing,
04:27and I won't say what they are because that's not what this is about.
04:29There's another 20 that might be in the, oh, that's a very fringe show.
04:33But other than that, there's a lot of very, very good shows out there.
04:36And I think that's all that we've pointed out to, that's a very nice piece.
04:37I think so.
04:38I think it's a very nice piece.
04:39So there's some good things here.
04:40It's a big piece.
04:41I think it's probably a lot of ourselves and that kind of beak of someone perhaps not
04:43being.
04:44I think it's about the time to try and deal with it, it's about the time I've been
04:46actually in my office.
04:47And it's about to try and do a lot of stuff because I don't know what it's very
04:48particularly the time that's going to go and do.
04:49Yeah.
04:50And then it's about to try and make awesome things and stuff.
04:51And I think it's about to try and think about it, as well, that will be
04:52enough to try and repeat.
04:53And it's about to try and get into some of the space.
