00:00What do you say to the 40% of California voters who you'll need in order to win who voted for Trump?
00:07How would I need them in order to win, ma'am?
00:09Well, unless you think you're going to get 60% of the vote.
00:13I feel like this is unnecessarily argumentative. What is your question?
00:17Well, to those voters, okay, so you...
00:19I don't want to keep doing this. I'm going to call it. Thank you.
00:23You're not going to do the interview with us?
00:25Nope, not like this, I'm not. Not with seven follow-ups to every single question you ask.
00:29A California gubernatorial hopeful snapped at a CBS News reporter
00:33and tried to storm out of an interview after being asked a simple question about President Trump.
00:39Ex-California Representative Katie Porter was recorded trying to pull the plug on the sit-down interview
00:44with CBS News Sacramento last month.
00:47The bizarre encounter, which aired online earlier this week, captured Porter flipping out
00:52when reporter Julie Watts asked how she planned to win Republican votes
00:56as she tries to replace Governor Gavin Newsom in 2026.
01:00Following a brief back-and-forth where a testy Porter insisted she could build support
01:05and would seek every vote possible, the Democrats suddenly cracked.
01:09Porter seethed at what she described as argumentative follow-up questions
01:13before trying to cut it off.
01:15I don't want this all on camera, she later added.
01:18After the footage started spreading on social media, Porter's campaign said the interview,
01:22which was recorded last month, continued for an additional 20 minutes.
01:27It wasn't immediately clear if or when it was set to air in full.
01:31Porter, who launched her gubernatorial campaign in March,
01:34has previously been hit with claims she bullied staffers.
01:37Her ex-husband Matthew Hoffman also alleged in their divorce proceedings
01:41that she frequently abused him verbally and threw toys, books, and other objects at him
01:47during their marriage, alleging she even once poured scalding hot mashed potatoes
01:51on his head during a fight.
01:54Prior to her epic implosion at CBS,
01:56Porter had been the clear frontrunner in the California governor's race,
01:59with a seven-point lead over her rivals,
02:02according to the latest Real Clear Politics aggregate.
02:05Her Democratic primary foes quickly pounced on the meltdown.
02:09This is a pattern for Katie Porter.
02:12No candidate for governor should hide from the press or mistreat them.
02:15We owe it to the public to be transparent.
02:18State Superintendent Tony Thurman jabbed.
02:20If she can't answer basic questions from a reporter,
02:23how can Californians expect her to stand up to President Trump?
02:27Incumbent Democrat Governor Gavin Newsom is term-limited,
02:30and with former Vice President Kamala Harris having passed on a gubernatorial run,
02:34the field for the 2026 race has been left wide open.
