00:00We are here with the one, the only, Sheena Shea.
00:03We're going to be talking all about your new memoir, My Good Side, which, I mean, I couldn't put it down.
00:06I think I read it in, like, a night.
00:08Oh, my gosh. Thank you.
00:10Yeah, it's so good, and we learned so much about you.
00:12You know, why was now the perfect time to share your story with the world?
00:16I have had a running note in my phone for about a decade.
00:20One day when I write a book, I'm going to say this, I'm going to say that.
00:23And then about a year and a half, almost two years ago, I just had a meeting with my agent.
00:27They asked, you know, what were some of my career goals, and I've just always felt a calling to just, like, share my lived experiences with the entire world.
00:37You know, not normal, but it's just kind of my thing.
00:39And so I felt like with the show, you only get one side, and I want to show it all.
00:46I want to show the good side and, you know, all the others.
00:49But it just felt like the time was right.
00:52I know that it takes a long time from the day you start writing it to the day it's actually out.
00:58I mean, clearly, it's been over a year and a half I've been working on this.
01:02And so it just felt like the right time.
01:05I'm like, why am I going to wait for Vanderpump Rules to be done to write a book?
01:08This show could go on forever.
01:09I mean, clearly, it's still going on just without us.
01:12Right.
01:12But, yeah, it just finally felt right.
01:15I have to say, you have one incredible dating roster.
01:19I know everyone wants to talk about, you know, John Mayer, Jesse Metcalf.
01:23I want to ask you about Jesse McCartney.
01:24Was this, like, a beautiful soul era?
01:27Just tell me everything.
01:28I need to know.
01:28This was 2009, 2010, and I only remember that because we were neighbors for a year.
01:35I lived at this building, I think I talk about this in the book, called the Fontenoy.
01:39It was on Whitley, just north of Hollywood, and Jesse lived up the hill just a tiny bit.
01:46And we're both Chargers fans.
01:48And so it became a thing where on Sundays I would bring, like, donuts or bagels over to the boys
01:54and we would watch football or, you know, we would go in the other room and do that, too.
02:00There was one weekend where I was with Jesse McCartney and Shamar Moore in Vegas the same weekend.
02:05I was like, one night, one the next night.
02:07But, yeah, you know, I was, like, 23.
02:11Oh, my gosh, that's amazing.
02:12It's also really interesting to hear you talk about everything that happened with Eddie
02:16and how you felt like Brock's affair was your karma for that.
02:19Why did you decide to open up about that now?
02:21Because I feel like, I mean, you could have taken this to the grave if you wanted to.
02:24Could have.
02:25That would have been truly living a lie, and I'm not a liar.
02:30I kept it private for so long to protect my daughter.
02:34But then when I started writing the book, it was actually the first chapter that was written.
02:38Like, let's just put it, I was going to say pen to paper, but nails to keyboard.
02:43And let's just see, you know, if it fits in the story, if we don't need it.
02:47The book sold with a very vague description of what this chapter could look like.
02:51So I'm like, okay, then we don't need to put it in the book.
02:54And really, no one knew.
02:56So I didn't have that many people to go to for advice.
03:00It was my manager, my sister-in-law, and my best guy friend.
03:04Brock eventually had opened up to one of his friends, and they're like,
03:06do not let her put that in the book.
03:08And I was like, well, it is my story.
03:11And let's weigh the pros and cons.
03:13After the book sold, there was a leak.
03:16There was a blind item.
03:17I guarantee the day this book sells, that will resurface.
03:22It did.
03:22It made its way onto Reddit.
03:23I'm like, it's only a matter of time.
03:26I'm not going to let that be the reason I put it in the book, because I can deny it.
03:30Unless the girl comes forward and has some sort of proof, I can just say that's bullshit.
03:35After when we really started writing the book and putting it all together, I'm like,
03:39okay, so let's say chapter 16 doesn't make it in, or we skirt around it and put a vague
03:45description of what we were going through in.
03:47I'm going from Scandaval to Vanderpump Rules getting rebooted.
03:51I feel like I've lived a whole life in between then.
03:54And what I've gone through, what I've overcome, what I've been able to forgive, that took a
03:59lot of strength that I didn't know I was capable of.
04:03But I will do anything for my daughter.
04:05And if that means forgiving my husband for something he did years prior and keeping our
04:11family together, I was like, let me see if I can do it.
04:14I don't know if I can.
04:15I always said, if I'm ever cheated on, I'm out, I'm done walking away.
04:20And then it happened.
04:22And it's not so black and white.
04:24So I really had to look at our life together.
04:27And I'm like, since you did this, I believe he's never done it again.
04:31I believe he never will do it again.
04:34But we had built such a beautiful life together.
04:36We're raising this amazing daughter together.
04:38And he had proven to me what an amazing partner he is to me, what an amazing father he is
04:44to Summer.
04:45And so I said, I will do everything I can to work towards a path of forgiveness.
04:50And it took me a very long time to say the words, I forgive you.
04:55But I did.
04:56We've done couples therapy, back in individual therapy.
05:00And I think part of putting it in the book also, it was just like, I wanted to be authentic.
05:05I wanted to tell my full story, my full truth.
05:08And hopefully some people can relate to it.
05:11And just because, you know, there is infidelity, it doesn't always mean the relationship has to
05:17end for some.
05:18Absolutely.
05:19Ariana, get out.
05:21Walk away.
05:22Right.
05:22But for me, I'm like, this guy challenges me in ways I've never been challenged.
05:28He supports me in ways I've never been supported.
05:31I don't want to throw our life away because you made a bad decision a few times when you
05:36were feeling really insecure and unworthy of being a dad again.
05:41He didn't think he deserved a second chance.
05:43I have to say, you know, after reading your book, I've been looking back on that last season
05:47of Vanderpump Rules season 11 very differently.
05:50You know, I see that everything you went through with Colin played into you wanting to show
05:53some forgiveness to Sandoval, especially after he opened up about his mental health.
05:57Obviously, we know what you were going through with Brock at the time.
06:00You know, are you hoping that fans will read this book and maybe understand, you know, what
06:05you've gone through in life and how it's played into some of the decision making that
06:09you've done?
06:10Yeah, I mean, that's literally all I'm looking for with this book is for people to have a deeper
06:15understanding of who I am, why I work the way that I do.
06:18If you read this book and still don't like me, that's okay.
06:21You know, I'm not everyone's cup of tea.
06:23I can be annoying.
06:24I can be all of these things.
06:25I get it.
06:26But I feel like people have always judged me on a portion of me that you see on the
06:33show and not all of me.
06:35You don't listen to the podcast.
06:36You don't watch the vlogs.
06:36You don't know me.
06:38After this book, you will know me.
06:40And if you still don't like me, that's okay.
06:42Hopefully you understand me.
06:43One thing that shocked me in the book was that Sandoval had given your ex-husband ecstasy
06:48on the day of your wedding.
06:49You're the first person to bring this up.
06:50Okay, I clocked that right away.
06:52Dog-eared the page.
06:53Wrote down the number.
06:54No one thought this.
06:55Like, what?
06:56How did that unfold?
06:57What was the conversation with Sandoval like once you realized?
07:00Oh, I was pissed.
07:02And he thought it was funny.
07:04I'm like, this all made sense.
07:06Like, when you go back and watch that scene, I think it's in A Secrets Revealed.
07:10He, I mean, eyes glazed over.
07:12Like, he didn't know he was rolling.
07:14I don't think he had ever done ecstasy before.
07:17So, I'm looking at him and I'm like, what did you just take?
07:21What did you do?
07:22Like, how did you get so drunk so quickly?
07:26And it wasn't until weeks later that we were at Sandoval's and he was like, hey, you guys
07:30want some?
07:31And Shay's like, oh, it's Adderall?
07:32And he's like, no, it's ecstasy.
07:34We're like, wait.
07:35And Shay goes, that looks like the Adderall you gave me at the wedding.
07:37And it was like a, ha, gotcha.
07:40And I was like, oh, okay.
07:44I'm like, it's just, I was so pissed.
07:46But also, like, there were people there and I'm like, I'm not one to really cause a scene
07:50unless there's a camera in my face.
07:52I might, you know, cause a scene.
07:54But no, I just, yeah, I was really upset with, it was like, I understood he was just
08:00trying to have him have a good time or whatever.
08:02But I'm like, he didn't want to take ecstasy.
08:05He had never taken that before.
08:07He just wanted to stay up a little longer, which we find out later, you know, then that
08:12became a problem as well.
08:13But at the time, I had no idea.
08:16You also talked about how you and Lala staged a fight in the season nine finale to secure
08:20another season of the show.
08:21Was there always pressure to deliver, you know, an epic finale?
08:25Yes.
08:26That's why I got divorced.
08:27I'm just kidding.
08:28I'm kidding.
08:29No, but literally the season five finale.
08:31I remember being at Katie and Schwartz's wedding and cameras wrapped and we're like,
08:36is our show done?
08:37Like that was so peaceful.
08:39No one fought.
08:40Like they just had a great wedding.
08:42Like everything was perfect.
08:44I did not.
08:45I was joking.
08:46But, you know, then cut to three months later, she and she got divorced.
08:51Well, shifting gears a little bit, you reveal in the book that Tyler Perry was the best tipper.
08:55Who would come in out of any celebrity who's come into the restaurants?
08:57Who would come in second and third place?
09:00Ooh, Drake.
09:03Incredible.
09:06Rob Dyrdek.
09:07I remember he was a really good tipper.
09:11Those are like the top ones I remember.
09:15That's pretty epic.
09:15Yeah.
09:16Good ones.
09:17Yeah.
09:17But Drake was the best.
09:19Yeah.
09:19I imagine.
09:20Yeah.
09:21Better be.
09:22Well, one last quick question.
09:23You know, you've acted, you sang, you've been on reality TV.
09:26You're a mom, you're a wife, an author.
09:28What's next for Sheena Shea?
09:30Maybe Dancing with the Stars finally?
09:32No, that was 20s and 30s, Sheena's dream.
09:3640s, Sheena has other dreams and aspirations.
09:39You know, this book has been my focus for the last year and a half.
09:42Now that it's out, I would genuinely love to get back into acting.
09:46I did a guest star role on Lopez vs. Lopez last year and that was so much fun.
09:53So I do have some things in that lane that I'm working towards and yeah, we'll see what
