00:00a season nine there were a lot of stories that were filmed and didn't end up making it in the

00:11show and one of them was a whole friendship with myself and katie maloney where i sat in her living

00:19room we had some wine we had a great conversation and she was like i just don't understand how you

00:26could be okay with brock leaving his family and i said it is more complicated than that you don't

00:33understand all of the nuances and everything that was going on at that time they had a very present

00:39stepfather in their life and just like i was raised by my stepfather who is my dad i've never even

00:47liked referring to him as my stepdad because he is my dad i understood you know my biological father

00:54took a step back because that was what was best for me and as much as people want to just see it as

01:02he's this man who abandoned his family i know that's how it looks from the outside but on the inside he

01:08was 19 20 years old when he had kids he was doing what he felt was best for his family and those kids

01:17and staying in a toxic relationship wasn't going to be what was best for them to be raised in

01:22and they had a great stepfather and they still do and they now have a little sister and that was

01:31how i was able to be okay with his situation because when you just hear the highlight reel

01:38none of that sounds okay and i did have a conversation with his ex-wife and just say you know

01:44i'm the kids in this situation and i am so thankful that my biological father took a step back so that i

01:54could be raised by an amazing dad my biological father's a great guy and now later in life we do

02:01have a great relationship i talk to him weekly but i never wanted to share that story on vanderpump rules

02:08because i was afraid of hurting my dad and hurting his feelings and for his friends at work who watched

02:14the show to question like wait you're not her real dad no he is my real dad he may not be my biological

02:20father but he is my real dad and so that was always my hesitation but also with the book i felt like

02:27i'm not going to be telling my authentic story if i don't talk about this huge part of my upbringing

02:34and how i didn't feel like i fit in i am half mexican but i didn't grow up with you know speaking

02:40spanish making tamales at thanksgiving and christmas and all of those traditions that i do wish i had a

02:47part of that in my life but you know it's never too late and now i do get some holidays with that side

02:53of the family and i'm so thankful that i have such a big extended family you know i'm very fortunate that

03:01i do have my dad's side and my biological father's side
