00:00You're not just the star of this film, you're also an executive producer.
00:03Can you tell me a little bit about stepping into that producer role and what that looked like for you?
00:08Yeah, it was really awesome to get to be a part of it in that way.
00:11When I first read the script, one of the things that I loved about it was all the female characters that are the contestants.
00:19So one of the things that I really pulled for was just having a couple more characters with bigger roles that were the contestants.
00:29So that was one of the things I think probably my biggest thing I pushed for.
00:34I'd love to hear which characters did you push for specifically or which characters kind of were born out of that suggestion.
00:41Well, one of my close friends in real life, Hannah Stocking, she plays Eve in the movie.
00:46And that character kind of came from it.
00:50But also Hannah brought so much to that character and really brought it to life and brought so much more to it.
00:56But yeah, I was just excited to get to like work with all these different like awesome talented women that they just they all bring so much to each of their parts.
01:06And I feel like it really elevated the whole movie having having them.
01:10I particularly loved seeing you working with Madison Pettis on this movie.
01:15You guys have this great kind of back and forth.
01:17And she was coming up as a Disney star around the same time you were a Nickelodeon star.
01:21Is there any like playful rivalry there between Nick stars and Disney stars?
01:26I wouldn't say a rivalry, but I would say we bonded right away because we have a lot of similar experiences.
01:32And we were both child actors.
01:33And that's a very specific kind of experience.
01:37So I just love her.
01:39I think she's awesome.
01:40And I know in the movie we hate each other and we're like totally against each other the whole time.
01:45But in real life, like we couldn't have gotten along better.
01:48And then getting to do the mud pit scene with her, I keep I always tell her like we're bonded for life from that because it rained really hard the day we were filming it.
01:57And I don't know, there's just not anything quite like wrestling with someone in mud in the rain.
02:01Like I've never done anything like that before.
02:02And I feel like we'll always be friends because of it.
02:06What else can you tell me about what you remember filming that day because that that seems hilarious and you guys are both have these really good physical comedy bits in it.
02:15Yeah, it was so much fun.
02:17I mean, it was crazy because I had a cold, a really bad cold when we filmed it.
02:20And it just happened to rain really hard that day.
02:23But you can't even tell it's raining in the movie.
02:25But we just went for it and we had a really good time.
02:28And it was honestly my like one of the most fun scenes in the end.
02:32And, yeah, I just I love like going crazy and we kind of practiced a lot beforehand and sort of had a little bit of like choreography for it.
02:41So we sort of had an idea of what it was going to be.
02:43But we also got to improvise during it, too.
02:45And we did it a lot.
02:46So it was really fun.
02:48You are a natural as a country girl in this movie and you have some impressive skills that you put on display, including lassoing and horseback riding and bull riding.
02:56Are those all things you learned for this role?
02:58And what was that process like?
03:00Yeah, so I took a welding class for six hours one day, which it's funny because I don't weld very much in the movie.
03:05But I'm so happy I did it because it's a new skill and I ended up really enjoying it.
03:11It was funny, though, because it was a group class and there were like five other 50-year-old men that were really like learning to weld and going to get their license and then me.
03:19So it was kind of dorky of me.
03:20But I had a really good time and it was a really cool skill to learn.
03:24And then I also got to learn how to lasso, which was really fun, and how to ride a mechanical bull.
03:30It's way harder than I ever realized.
03:32I mean, I knew it was going to be hard, but I could barely – when I first started practicing, I could barely stay on for like four seconds.
03:39And I definitely like built up to figuring out – you have to like build your leg strength and your core strength and it's a whole thing.
03:44So it was really fun, though.
03:46I got to do so many different things.
03:48Talk to me a little bit about casting and working with Pearson Foday in this film.
03:53You guys have a really great chemistry.
03:55And I saw that his first acting job was actually on iCarly.
03:58Yeah, so it's so crazy.
03:59When he first came to L.A. to act, I think he was like 14 or 15, it was the first part that he booked.
04:05And the scene is literally just me and him together.
04:08It was in a Halloween episode of iCarly.
04:10And, yeah, that was the first time we ever met.
04:12And then it was pretty quick, even though like we got along really well and I remember working with him.
04:18But it was pretty quick.
04:18And then this is the first time we've really met up again and talked since.
04:22And it just felt like a full circle moment.
04:24Like it's kind of crazy thinking we acted as kids together and now we get to be in this movie opposite each other.
04:29And he's just – I couldn't ask for a better person to make this movie with.
04:33Like he's just so easygoing and fun.
04:35And he grew up on a ranch in real life.
04:37So he helped me a lot.
04:40He helped me with horseback riding and just making sure the lassoing looked good and all that stuff.
04:45Like he was just so behind me the whole time.
04:47And it was so nice to have someone like that.
04:49Speaking of the ranch life, you do a really good Texas accent.
04:53You visiting from Dallas?
04:56What makes you say that?
04:59Custom boots without a speck of dirt.
05:01Uh-huh.
05:01Fancy hat.
05:02Right.
05:02I'm guessing lawyer in town for the weekend checking out a hunting lease for the fall.
05:09Try again.
05:09I'm wondering how you spent time finding that, if you worked with a dialect coach or what.
05:14It's so funny because I'm really not doing much of an accent.
05:18And one of my friends watched it the other day because I had it and I was able to show it to her.
05:21And she was like, you're doing like a country accent.
05:24And I was like, am I?
05:25Like I didn't really – the only thing I would say is I tried to take like – I always put really hard I-N-G's on the end of stuff like jumping.
05:33But I tried to like make it jumping or like take some of that – make it a little less intense because I speak very like – I don't know, L.A. I guess.
05:42But yeah, I didn't really like have to do too much.
05:45I didn't really try to do much of an accent.
05:46But I feel like Pearson does for sure and he did a really good job.
05:49I loved seeing you as a rom-com lead.
05:53I'm wondering would you like to do more romance like this or is there a genre that you would like to try that you haven't gotten to do yet?
06:00I love rom-coms.
06:01It really is genuinely my favorite genre.
06:03So to get to be a part of one in this way for the first time, I was really excited.
06:08But yeah, I don't know.
06:09I'd love to maybe do another rom-com in the future because I had so much fun doing this.
06:14Or maybe a horror movie.
06:15I love horror or thrillers.
06:17My colleague actually spoke to your co-star Madison earlier this month and she mentioned – Madison mentioned that she couldn't stop quoting Drake and Josh on set.
06:25I'm just curious, were you aware of this happening?
06:28That's so funny.
06:29She did tell me that she liked Drake and Josh and it's so funny because when I was little, I used to watch her and a bunch of the stuff she was in.
06:35And even though we never really crossed paths, so to actually get to like meet her and I've always loved her.
06:40I think she's a great actress.
06:41So yeah, it was really cool to get to work with her.
06:44You were just in another Netflix movie that I really liked, Mother of the Bride.
06:47I'm wondering what kind of keeps you coming back to Netflix and do you see more Netflix films in your future?
06:53Yeah, I hope so.
06:54I mean, I really like working with Netflix.
06:56Everybody's so nice, especially in the rom-com department.
06:59All the people that I know, like they're so collaborative and they just made the experience so fun.
07:04So I'd love to get to continue to work with them.
07:07So excited about this upcoming iCarly movie that you teased a couple weeks ago.
07:12I just want to know where you guys at in the process right now.
07:15Do you know when filming will begin?
07:17Like what can fans expect and look forward to?
07:20Hopefully, I think we're going to be filming it early next year.
07:22So it's exciting and I just got to read the first pass of the script and that was really cool.
07:28So, yeah, I'm just fingers crossed that it all works out because I just love Jerry and Nathan.
07:33They're two of my like longest, like the people I've been friends with the longest.
07:38And they're kind of like my brothers.
07:40Like I really love them.
07:41So I would love to get to work with them again and wrap the story up.
