00:00Plastic bottles, food wrappers and metal can tops are not the usual ingredients for high fashion.
00:09But on a Lagos runway, they're being reshaped into bold and colorful outfits as part of a youth-led trash on shore
00:16that's all about art, creativity and sustainability.
00:20The theme for this year is sea turtle awakening, our oceans, our turtles.
00:25And we decided to settle for it because we know the issues of plastic facing the ocean life and marine life.
00:32And we want to do what we can to raise awareness and help tackle the issues.
00:36Teenage designers, students and volunteers created the garments from litter collected along beaches and in coastal communities.
00:45Each outfit built from bottle caps, water sashes or straws aims to show how everyday waste contributes to pollution.
00:52The essence for us doing this trash on shore is to help build the next generation, to equip them for the future,
00:57to equip them so that they can also understand that this fight is a fight that they too have to participate in and partake in.
01:04And we are glad to see students turn out in their numbers to support and participate in these kinds of activities.
01:11The initiative has organized similar outreach projects in schools and coastal communities in Ghana, Benin and Sierra Leone.
01:19For the young models, the show is both a creative challenge and a call to action.
01:24I feel amazed to be a part of this wonderful event.
01:27It has been nothing but an honor because having to convert trash into recyclable things that can be worn as beautiful as this is something that I'm really, really glad to be a part of.

01:42The organizers say their aim is to turn awareness into action, urging fashion to spark a wider movement against plastic waste.
01:51All these outfits we are making, it's, you know, a testament that beauty is not only fashionable but it can also be sustainable.
