00:00So I've been working on my album for the last couple weeks, and I've been making progress,
00:12but it's still not quite there yet.
00:15Right now, I'm struggling.
00:16I don't know what to call my album.
00:19I'm just not inspired.
00:20The album, a little bit of pressure.
00:22A lot of pressure.
00:24Obviously, the pressure comes from needing to finish, hopefully, by the end of this month
00:27and get ready for tour.
00:28Hands down, the worst year of my life.
00:32I experienced so much loss that it has affected my writing process, because two of the most
00:37pioneers of music have left.
00:40I've just been needing the inspo again.
00:42I've got to figure out what's my why, you know?
00:44I feel like it's more of a task nowadays.
00:47It don't feel like fun no more.
00:49We meet with Def Jam in the next few weeks, but it's important to go in there with the
00:53music.
00:53It'd be even better to go in there with the title and with the concept and with an idea
00:56so you can give them their marching orders.
00:58You know, I want to be as detailed as possible.
01:01Okay.
01:02Let's get it done.
01:13Hey, girl.
01:15What's going on?
01:17Nothing much.
01:18Trying to figure my life out.
01:19How you been?
01:20I'm excited.
01:21I know.
01:22Are you going to come to the first show?
01:24Absolutely.
01:25Period.
01:26I think my day-to-day life is extremely overwhelming.
01:29I mean, I'm thinking of what I have going on as this upcoming tour is coming up.
01:34You know, I got team travel.
01:36I need to do budget sheets.
01:38I'm doing sponsorship decks.
01:39I'm pitching.
01:40I'm going to meetings.
01:41I'm finishing my album.
01:43I'm gearing up for tour.
01:44It's a lot.
01:45I don't know how the funding is about to go for, you know, how much tour support we'll
01:50be able to have allotted for, you know, just basic moving around.
01:53I am gearing up to go on my first tour, first major tour with Coco Jones, and I'm super excited.
02:00It's a great opportunity.
02:01As support for the tour, unfortunately, a lot of the financial burden falls on me.
02:09And just figuring out, like, if there's any partners that would like to help me along
02:13this journey.
02:14I've started reaching out to some of the brands that we have existing alliances with.
02:18And then I was thinking, you know, the meet and greets do so well on your shows.
02:22So maybe we pitch an idea, like, you know, activating through some kind of, like, VIP
02:26experience, VIP lounge, backstage, meet and greets, and selling that into a brand.
02:32Okay.
02:33From a business standpoint, meet and greet tickets are sold separately from general admission
02:38tickets.
02:39And so it's something that goes directly to the artists as opposed to the promoters.
02:46You sign t-shirts and, you know, you have an opportunity to sell and monetize, you know,
02:52off a product there, too.
02:54Yeah.
02:55I've just been really stressed out about figuring out how to support in the best way possible.
03:01Because I know we're working in limited parameters, but I still want to give a show.
03:05You know, I still want to show up and be an addition to her, to Coco's, like, whole vision
03:10for it.
03:10So I don't want it to feel like, girl, why did y'all bring her?
03:14Like, what did she add to this, you know?
03:17Well, we'll figure it out.
03:19Hopefully.
03:20I think we're excited for you.
03:22I still remember when we, like, first had our first call back when I was at Def Jam and
03:26just, like, seeing where everything's ascended to is exciting.
03:31The crowd literally knows every single word.
03:33We got more wins.
03:34I'm excited.
03:3533 Cities is very different from the first four that I did.
03:37So just expanding that, I don't even, I can't even imagine.
03:42You're not ready for nothing you haven't done before.
03:44No one can say that they're ready for something they have yet to do.
03:47You can take direction from people who have been in the places that you're trying to go.
03:50But that's about as ready as you're going to be.
03:53You know, we always kill the deal.
03:54So let's just bring one home, another one.
04:07What's up, y'all?
04:13What up, what up?
04:13What is it?
04:13Chillin', chillin', chillin'.
04:15Hey, girl.
04:16Another day.
04:18Well, we almost, we almost to the finish line, though.
04:21I think we, like, one to three songs away from, like, it being really done.
04:25This album for me is to cover all bases.
04:29Really proud of its versatility.
04:31I just want to step out of the box a little bit.
04:34Give people a side of me that they haven't been able to experience.
04:38And I'm also moving through these stages of life, right?
04:41Like, soul, I was in my soft girl era, and I was doing my toxic love songs and all the things.
04:47And now I'm in my villain era where I'm popping it.
04:49And it's going to hit who it's supposed to hit.
04:52I'm curious to know what's going to be the one, though.
04:54Like, I'm in the mix of demo-itis, mixed with, like, I'm too in it, I'm too close to it.
04:59So I can't hear no more.
05:01In my head, I'm like, I think I know.
05:04But it'll never be the one that I know.
05:06Like, I'll be like, yeah, yeah, that one, that one, that one.
05:09The world will be like, no, that one, the little one.
05:12That's why I swear I'm David.
05:13I'm David in the Bible.
05:14Like, I am David.
05:14I'm the, like, least expected.
05:18The beautiful thing is that the records are there.
05:21And you can hear the elevation in my sound.
05:23You can hear the elevation in what, in my tonality, in my influxes, in my voice, and just even playing with stuff.
05:30You know what I mean?
05:30That I probably would have never ventured into certain beat pockets, everything.
05:34Yeah, I can't cuff him.
05:36Shit, half of these niggas my brother, my kin, my cousin.
05:40What you gonna spend?
05:41What is your budget?
05:42Yeah, not a visa or a thing for a nigga.
05:45I wouldn't put a piece in my name for a nigga.
05:47I don't follow these niggas.
05:48I lead them.
05:49Fuck a nigga.
05:49Be my 13th reason.
05:51Come on.
05:51This album, it's like one of them fire pits.
05:55You know, how you are supposed to, like, throw or cast away all your fears into the fire.
06:00Like, for me, that's what this album represents.
06:03Throwing in the naysayers.
06:05Throwing in the people who said I couldn't do it or I wouldn't do it.
06:07Throwing in the people who think I don't have versatility.
06:10Throwing in the people who hate whatever things about me that they claim to hate.
06:14Throwing in the people who don't want to see me win.
06:16Who don't want to see it happen for me.
06:18And just casting it away.
06:21I wouldn't put a piece in my name for a nigga.
06:24And won't.
06:28We just gotta finish.
06:29I'm gonna finish the second verse.
06:30And, um, we should be able to play it at the meeting and stuff.
06:35Oh, you want to finish it before the meeting?
06:37Ideally.
06:38But low-key, I don't mind cutting it off.
06:41Because, you know, you could do it both ways.
06:43You could be like, yeah, so when I'm working on it, that's it.
06:45Like, you got more.
06:47So, we're a few days out from the official Def Jam meeting.
06:52Um, just putting some finishing touches on things.
06:55Um, reorganizing, restructuring.
06:58Making sure everything is exactly how I want to show it.
07:02So, I have to finish verse-wise.
07:05Do you know?
07:06I want to redo the verse forever, which is really face card.
07:09Oh, you want to redo the verses?
07:10Mm-hmm.
07:11I don't know.
07:11And it's just in two lines.
07:12Every time I hear it, I, like, secretly just cringe inside.
07:15Well, yeah, if you cringe and then, yeah.
07:16Uh, it's like when you first start the verse, it's cool, and then it gets weird, and then
07:20it gets cool again.
07:21But then that's pretty much it.
07:22Then I got to do my intro.
07:23I hope it's well-received, of course.
07:25Like, in a perfect world, it does well.
07:27We get nominations behind it, and people really see me.
07:30The next bitch in my sheets, so all of this come with a fee.
07:35I'm cool with those.
07:36Hey, yo.
07:37I'm cool with that.
07:39Yeah.
07:39What you want from me to lie to you?
07:46Talk to you like I desire you?
07:48Ask him what are we, I tell him I don't know.
07:50That's my little yeah, yeah, you never tell me no.
07:53You're about the way I am, ain't nothing like these hoes.
07:56Don't worry, find no money, I know I'm a nigga though.
07:58Whey protein powder, just a little bit, though.
08:00Not, like, overpowering.
08:02I'm my little yeah, yeah.
08:04What's up with you, though?
08:05What's going on with you?
08:06Catching up on your life.
08:06Ooh, well first, let's, let's down these.
08:09Let's do this.
08:10You ready?
08:11You're really not about that, like.
08:12Cheers.
08:14Are you going to follow his instructions?
08:16Absolutely.
08:17Going straight through.
08:17Let's go.
08:18Marcus is my big brother.
08:20Blood couldn't make us any closer.
08:22We are so, like, aligned in a lot of ways.
08:28Yeah, it's important that I have a powwow with my brother before I leave.
08:32He offers a perspective that I don't always see for myself, but he knows me in ways that
08:39you could only know by observing closely.
08:44So I got to get his thoughts on this project and on this tour.
08:50What are you looking forward to the most?
08:52Mm-hmm.
08:53And what's the scariest part of it?
08:57Looking forward to a lot of cities I haven't been to.
09:01I realized that I, I'm well-traveled internationally, but not really domestically.
09:05That's interesting.
09:06Yeah.
09:06Because you, you absolutely are well-traveled.
09:08You be, ah, Greece, Santorini.
09:11Yeah, all the things, but I never even been to the state of Tennessee before.
09:15All right, so what cities are you looking forward to?
09:17Atlanta always shows a lot of love, so I feel like Atlanta's always a vibe.
09:20You know how I feel about you in Atlanta.
09:21I know.
09:22I love you.
09:23I'm so outside.
09:24Um, Detroit.
09:25Looking forward to that.
09:26I haven't been to Detroit since I was, like, in high school.
09:29Mm-hmm.
09:29Chicago.
09:30Chicago.
09:31What took, what's taking you so long?
09:32I'm trying to think about it all the way, because I even say New York yet.
09:34I'm excited about New York.
09:35I'm excited about Philly.
09:36That's, like, biased.
09:37We know you're excited about New York.
09:38Yes.
09:39What's one thing that's, like, in the back of your mind, like, just kind of cringy, like,
09:44ah, it's about the tour process in general?
09:48I think me not having, I feel like I want more stage design.
09:52Mm-hmm.
09:53Um, so I guess overall, just, like, budget.
09:55Mm-hmm.
09:55Like, I wish it was just bigger.
09:58Making sure I give a good stage show and making sure I'm an asset to the tour.
10:02Anybody can go crazy with a million dollar budget.
10:04Right.
10:05What can you do with a $1,500 budget?
10:09Exactly.
10:09You know what I'm saying?
10:10Can you make something exceptional?
10:11It's like, and, like, I know you can.
10:14Because people coming to see you.
10:16Yeah.
10:16Like, people coming to see Lady London, they coming to experience your spirit.
10:20You know what I'm saying?
10:21Your energy.
10:22Yeah.
10:23Along with the one-liners and the vibes and the male slander.
10:28I do.
10:29I do get into it a little bit.
10:31A little bit.
10:31The, you know.
10:32It's so necessary, though.
10:34So absolutely provoked that it's, like, you know?
10:38Which part?
10:39The male slander.
10:40Oh, like, the fact that we deserve less.
10:42Yeah.
10:43Right.
10:43Right.
10:44But I also think, like, you're absolutely critical to society as well.
10:47So I have, like, that.
10:48Like, all at the same time.
10:49At the same time.
10:50It's...
10:51The two things can be true.
10:53You think that's, like, what?
10:54Like, 1% of men that are actually critical?
10:58Like, what?
10:59One is generous.
11:03It's funny.
11:04I feel like a lot of my narrative and a lot of my music is centered around, like, you know,
11:10fuck these niggas and, you know, all of the things.
11:12But, you know, to find out I really be making people plates is just detrimental to the brand.
11:18So I just...
11:20I don't...
11:21I'm not openly to the world as submissive as I really am behind closed doors.
11:26But that's why I like to keep my music, like, as versatile as possible because I'm not one-dimensional.
11:31So sometimes I feel like this.
11:32Other times I feel like that.
11:34But it's all me.
11:35And it's all true.
11:37Meanwhile, praying for your husband.
11:38Yeah.
11:39For sure.
11:40And knowing he's coming.
11:41For sure.
11:42Absolutely praying for him.
11:43So what do you think he's going to think about, like, all these things that you...
11:47He's going to get it.
11:48He's going to love being the one-
11:49He's going to get it.
11:49The one...
11:50I have so much love to give that it cannot be misappropriated because of how powerful
11:59it is.
12:00And so I rather have not given it than have given an inch of it because it's so overwhelming
12:08and so relentless and so unparalleled and so...
12:12It just is without condition.
12:15I have this idea of, you know, a man at the patriarch of the household and, you know, all the things.
12:24But heavy is the head, babe.
12:26So until I see it, I'm going to keep popping my shit.
12:34Ever since you dropped, popped my shit.
12:37People want to hear me wild them up.
12:40They want to hear you destroy men.
12:43I don't know if that's the case.
12:45I think people want to hear me be confident and disrespectful across the board.
12:51I mean, I don't think women are exceptions.
12:52No, no, because you don't get passes.
12:54I don't, I don't.
12:55Everybody gets...
12:56I'm coming, I'm shooting at everybody.
13:00Interesting.
13:01Each step I take through shifting sand is held within his steady hand.
13:10Though shadows stretch, I will not flee.
13:14What's meant for me will always be.
13:19God, I thank you for your abundance and for your foresight in our lives.
13:22We ask you to bless this food to nourish our bodies.
13:25May you remove any impurities from it.
13:27The last two years have been a change, you know, in my career, in my personal life.
13:32I've experienced a lot of loss.
13:34And with that, you know, scar tissue is developed and you begin to operate a little bit differently.
13:43For my ladies, let it go to our butts and not our guts.
13:47Okay, thank you.
13:48God, we love you and we thank you and we lift you.
13:51I think I've changed.
13:53I think, you know, skin repairs itself every seven years.
13:55I think this was my shedding, you know, my solar return, if you will.
14:00I think experiencing my emotions hourly took a lot for me.
14:06I think being able to make music in spite of all that I was going through or in still moving through says a lot.
14:15In Jesus' name we pray.
14:16Amen.
14:17Amen.
14:18I'm shocking myself daily by the will to keep going.
14:23God has given me another chance at life, so try to capitalize off that.
14:28All right, y'all, get a little bit of fun.
14:30Finally.
14:31Woo!
14:32I don't know about this.
14:34I feel like I was rushing all day.
14:36Stop being over analytical.
14:39I'm so serious.
14:40I'm not even, this, this is not even one of them times.
14:43This is not even one of them times.
14:44I'm so serious.
14:45Every time it's like, I don't know y'all, I don't know y'all, just let me know.
14:48Meanwhile, amazing.
14:49Lady London is a friend, a sister, she's a confidant, an extraordinaire in every room.
14:58This one I don't know, okay?
14:59I'll be honest.
15:00Just keep your thoughts to your soul.
15:02I feel like she's a master of all things.
15:04Like, anything that she touches, it's going to be special.
15:08So, that's her friendships, that's her career, that's everything.
15:12Like, you, she leaves a memorable print on everything she touches.
15:15If you don't like it, silently just throw it out.
15:17Silently just...
15:18Like, do the full plate quietly in the garbage.
15:21Don't, you know, don't exploit me.
15:23My name is Derek Milano, six-time Grammy award-winning songwriter, producer, and artist,
15:28and one of Lady's best friends.
15:30The energy with me and Lady, we started in the beginning.
15:32So, she's one of those people who goes off of energy and spirit.
15:36She's very godly as a woman.
15:37She moves in faith and she understands people.
15:42And I think her biggest thing is to be around people that have genuine, like, pureness.
15:46And I feel like, um, God put certain, uh, seasons on certain people.
15:52I just feel like her season is on the way.
15:54This is what she's destined for and this is what she wants to do.
15:56When me and Naki had gotten in a fight in that bar by your house,
16:00and that voice swung on me, I was so mad.
16:03Where was I?
16:04Girl, yes, this man punched me dead in my stomach.
16:07Oh, that ain't my brother.
16:08He was fighting my brother at this, at this brunch spot.
16:12Hi, I'm Kaya.
16:13I am one of Lady's best friends.
16:15We've been friends for about 10 years.
16:18We connected because we were just fly girls at Howard University.
16:22And he didn't have no girls with him.
16:24So, I was, like, trying to, like, separate them.
16:27And then they tried to jump him.
16:28I was like, fuck out of here.
16:30I feel like Lady is one of the strong friends that you have to remind yourself to check on.
16:35A great thing about her is that, like, her energy is literally infectious.
16:39It rubs off on anybody.
16:40Like, she's super, super loved.
16:42And it's not for, like, an image or clout.
16:45It's really that she is just, like, an infectious soul.
16:48She just, she's amazing.
16:50A nigga said, whop, boom, and punched me dead in my stomach.
16:53I said, boy, you hit like a bitch.
16:57Um, Lady London is, like, a superstar.
17:01Like, she literally is her.
17:03Cause he, he really scaled back and did the whole thing.
17:07I said, wow.
17:08They did the four wind up?
17:09Mm-hmm.
17:10Hmm.
17:10Hmm.
17:10I don't know.
17:12From the stories that I've heard about the music industry, to know, like, she is so protected
17:17by so many people.
17:21If the sky is the limit, she could go past that.
17:25Can we at least talk about it?
17:28Come here, sit down, let's get into this.
17:31Is it true you ain't been intimate?
17:35Are you listening?
17:37Said you cut off and now you're switching it up.
17:41Switching it up.
17:43Got me doing way too much.
17:46Way too much.
17:47Was it worth the...
17:48So what do you think we should play first, Jade?
17:50I want to know your, your role with that.
17:53I really want to make an impression on Def Jam with this finished album being presented.
17:58Um, I'm really just trying to blow their minds.
18:01Better yet, I want to know your top five songs.
18:04Top five?
18:05Buy Me Something.
18:06Okay.
18:07Um, Face Card.
18:10Mm-hmm.
18:11Ten.
18:14Strong Top.
18:15One of them.
18:18Um, Ladies Prayer.
18:21Yeah.
18:21And Follow the Leader, probably, like, yeah.
18:23Honorable Mention.
18:24Yeah.
18:24That's, I would say, almost identical.
18:27I think with this album, it's everything you loved about her freestyles and everything
18:31that you've seen happen from, you know, the early freestyle stuff in the back of the
18:34car to popular shit.
18:36It's seeing the elevated version of that in the music.
18:39You know, let's take that skill and let's take that wit.
18:41Let's take that attention to detail and let's wrap it up in great records.
18:45Hi.
18:46What up, what up?
18:47Hey.
18:48Game time.
18:49They coming.
18:50Let's see what they think.
18:52What's going on?
18:53How are you?
18:53How's your name?
18:54How's your name?
18:54Hey, lady, nice to meet you.
18:56What's up?
18:57I would definitely say there are some nerves about, you know, how the label may interpret
19:04what I've been working on, but I'm pretty sure they're really going to like it.
19:07Like, I have a great feeling about this.
19:09This is some of my best work that I think, I think you can see the evolution from Soul,
19:13or even from the Boss Tape to Soul to now.
19:16The goal is just rebirth every time.
19:18I'm hopeful.
19:18I'm confident.
19:19I'm going in there with a stride and a great understanding of myself.
19:23And of my music.
19:25Let me hear Do You Know.
19:29How many niggas in my DMs from AM to PM?
19:33Doing voodoo, hoping that I see them.
19:35How many women want to be me?
19:37Because they see me on TV.
19:39Journey hard, but it looks too easy.
19:41How many hands that was praying on my downfall?
19:43How are you?
19:44Sorry I'm late.
19:45It's good.
19:45How are you?
19:46Tungy is the CEO, head honcho of Def Jam Records.
19:51I think he may appear to be a little hard to read, but I don't think that he actually is that hard to read.
19:57I'm excited though.
19:58I think this is like something I want you to like, you know, sit with for a while, listen to.
20:03But it's like versatile, but cohesive.
20:08And I think it's a great picture of me as a whole, as opposed to like a very one track, one dimensional, one way of being seen.
20:18Obviously, I can rap people to death, do us part, we know this.
20:23And I've been putting in the work for six plus years now and proving to be the best female lyricist of the 21st century.
20:32And so now we have fun and we keep rapping.
20:36Oh yeah.
20:36So, let me hear Rotation.
20:39Absolutely.
20:39Turn me off.
20:40Rotation, rotation, rotation, rotation, huh?
20:52Which one is my favorite?
20:54Boy play about to go vacation.
20:56Lady is amazing at explaining, you know, her thoughts and articulating her vision.
21:00You can tell that she's put a lot of time into it, away from us to really think about, okay, why am I doing this project?
21:07Who am I speaking to?
21:08What do I want to say?
21:09And just feeling, you know, at peace with the music she's making.
21:13I think as she started to hear herself more and started to get that confidence more in trying new things, she just, you know, she's growing exponentially.
21:21Let's do a face card.
21:22Let's do a face card.
21:23Face card?
21:24I'll put you.
21:27Three, two, one.
21:30Yay!
21:31You ain't got to say a woman, baby, I can see it in your face.
21:36Walking in my credentials, I've been a star.
21:38Talking big is essential, it's the fear of God.
21:40Wrong line and I'm leaving it right in the dark.
21:43Honestly, I'm genuinely, like, really impressed.
21:45You can hear the growth.
21:47You know, you can see that she's ready to step into her life like she talks about.
21:50So, yeah, I mean, I think it's really just about putting the plan together to get this great music to the world and get it in front of people.
21:57But definitely, she's got the building blocks, she has the ingredients, we just had to get in the kitchen and put it all together.
22:03This is the outro, the final song on my project.
22:07I never, like, that's the back story behind it, is I never prayed for a husband.
22:11I feel like I always wanted financial stability, fiscal responsibility, career advancement, everything but companionship, or at least I always put it to the back burner.
22:21So, I feel like I pray about everything, everything that I want, I get, and I guess I'm finally growing up.
22:29And I did, like, I always pictured that when I did get married, I wanted people to look at it and be like, man, what was your prayer?
22:36Like, what is your prayer for him?
22:38Type shit.
22:38So, ladies' prayer, featuring the Walls group, is still being produced.
22:44So, the beat is not exactly where we want it yet.
22:47But overall, good idea.
22:49I think one thing that we did talk about is how her faith is a part of this album.
23:04And I think that's another part of her story that I think is important, you know, to hip-hop.
23:09You know, it's, obviously you don't want to be a hypocrite, you don't want to say one thing on one song, and, you know, the next song, oh, you know, God's working on all of us.
23:17And I think there's a way to balance that out and talk about your faith and talk about what, when it was dark and when it was difficult, how it helped you overcome.
23:26And I think that's going to be critical on her project.
23:28And I think that's going to be a huge thing in how she separates from the rest of the pack as well.
23:32Final song.
23:38That is the final song on the project.
23:41This is more imaginative than what I even thought that she was going to do.
23:48Like, I know she's an amazing lyricist and super imaginative and, like, really, really creative, but I just love that she came up with so many dope concepts and was able to execute them.
23:59But also keep the album fun and introspective at the same time.
24:04It's, like, a really good mix of all her different talents and skills, so definitely excited about it.
24:09There will be 13 records in total.
24:12It will begin and end with God, so essentially the intro, which we haven't done yet, will also have, like, chorus and just a good feeling, and then that will be the lead out of it.
24:21But, yeah.
24:22Do you have a title?
24:24To Whom It May Concern.
24:26Beautiful.
24:27Yeah.
24:27So I'm excited.
24:29The name of my album, debut album, is To Whom It May Concern, and I think it's such a fitting title.
24:36It's so funny.
24:36My brother, Marcus, came up with the album title unbeknownst to him.
24:43We were getting smoothies, and he was like, what you about to do later on today?
24:49And I was like, I got to, you know, do some moving around or whatever.
24:51He like, I should have known.
24:54Your vague answer is, you know, you live on a very To Whom It May Concern basis.
24:58Like, it's very, like, we don't know unless we have to know what you about to do.
25:02And I was like, oh, shit.
25:04And I had been sitting for months trying to figure out an album title, and I wrote all
25:10of these names down, and nothing was gravitating towards me.
25:13But I think that's so real about who I am.
25:18It's like, you know the pocket of me that you need to know.
25:22You're on a very need-to-know basis, To Whom It May Concern.
25:26I'm excited.
25:27You know, it's super dope.
25:28Love all the concepts, and just rapping crazy on every song.
25:32Yeah, that's the goal.
25:34Trying to make sure we keep the popping shit in there, even when we're not trying to.
25:39It's like what you said.
25:40It's like, shows a lot of range, but it's very cohesive.
25:43Mm-hmm.
25:44Cool.
25:44Appreciate it.
25:45And I love how you're wearing the influences, like, on your sleeve throughout with the samples,
25:50and, like, a lot of the music that you're rapping over are, like, super dope.
25:53Yeah, dope.
25:54Well, thank you.
25:54I appreciate it.
25:56I think people are going to be, like, really, really impressed and surprised, and it's going
25:59to be one of those things where people are like, man, I really needed something like
26:02this.
26:03She's really got, like, a very original and new and distinct lane, but she's also, you
26:10know, standing on the shoulders of everybody that influenced her, and you can hear that in
26:12the music, so it's a great, I feel like she's going to have a great cross-section of purists
26:18who love classic hip-hop, but also that new generation of listeners who's really just,
26:22like, wants to step into the future.
26:24To Whom It May Concern is perfectly titled because I expect it to, in its entirety, touch
26:32each person in their own way.
26:35Like, this song may relate to one person, whereas this song may resonate with another person,
26:40and it just meets you exactly where you are.
26:43To Whom It May Concern.
26:45I love it.
26:46That's great.
26:48Hey, turn already.
26:52You always know we got a greeting.
27:00Hey, my love.
27:03She's so sweet.
27:04I feel like we've always, since the time we met, it's been a very organic, high-energy,
27:09like, situation.
27:10And it's beautiful to know that, like, she comes from a place where she used to have stage,
27:14right?
27:14Like, I couldn't even imagine her having a time where she didn't feel confident or didn't
27:19feel the type of energy that I always feel from her.
27:22So it's kind of an inspiration in a way to just kind of look to, like, maybe, maybe that
27:26would be me one day.
27:27How are you?
27:28How are you?
27:28I've been good.
27:29It's funny.
27:30I always seem to go into the studio and just get fired up before I come in to you.
27:35I'm like, Noah, you're always just...
27:38I just get fired up.
27:40I love it.
27:41One of the things I want to do, we're going to start with some coloring.
27:44Did you know that adult coloring is really good for the brain?
27:47I believe that.
27:48Okay, so...
27:49This is the name of it.
27:51365 Promises from God's Word and Color.
27:54Yeah.
27:55So one of the things I know you expressed was, like, not liking to look at yourself.
28:03Yeah, I hate...
28:04I hate it.
28:05Uh-huh.
28:06Uh-huh.
28:06So, yeah.
28:07Well, the reason we started here is to just kind of calm you before we look at yourself.
28:13Okay, but keep on calling.
28:15That's why we got all the mirrors everywhere.
28:18The first session with Lady was really about her getting acclimated to a new way of thinking,
28:24right?
28:24And then build some new healthy habits and really summon her level of presence and all the
28:31gifts that exist that may have just been lying dormant.
28:33So, I want us to start with, I got a poem that you can recite.
28:40It could be anything.
28:41Okay.
28:42Yeah.
28:42Okay.
28:43Let's go to the mat.
28:45I'm going to do some things that are a little non-traditional.
28:50Part of her guardedness was wondering what the audience was thinking about her.
28:54And then also, we tend to bring our past experiences into the present, which is normal, but they've
29:03passed, right?
29:04So, you get to make a new choice.
29:07And I said, you can actually create a winning environment that every time you go on stage,
29:11that's what you're walking into.
29:13When do you feel the most free?
29:16Um...
29:17Uninhibited.
29:18Near water.
29:19Mm-hmm.
29:20I love the sound of water.
29:22It's the frequencies in it.
29:24Like, um, the kilohertz water.
29:27Mm-hmm.
29:28Um, that's where I feel most free.
29:30Who says kilohertz?
29:31I love it.
29:32Who says kilohertz?
29:33Who says kilohertz?
29:34Well, let's go.
29:35Okay.
29:36I don't know if I memorized it.
29:36I may have to help my...
29:38get help, too.
29:38Yeah.
29:39I noticed that I never do love poems that don't end in disaster.
29:43I noticed that I never acknowledged the times in which you were everything I'd ever asked
29:48for.
29:49Appearing happy on your down days because I was who you put on your mask for.
29:53I'm sorry for the part that I played.
29:55I think she had to unlearn self-judgment, unlearn putting the responsibility on the audience
30:04to actually make her feel comfortable opposed to making the first move as the artist, you
30:12know, knowing that now that's your responsibility.
30:15It's the work that we're doing now.
30:17Baby, if you were my gasoline, then I was like your blowtorch.
30:20I don't want to blow yours.
30:21Remember when I used to blow pause?
30:23I'm exposing my flaws because I already know yours.
30:27The end.
30:29Ashay!
30:31Ashay!
30:32Ashay!
30:33Yes!
30:35I mean, whatever that energy is, that's what I need to pull.
30:38There's a vulnerable energy that came in that poem.
30:41I don't know if you got to always cuss somebody out in love, but there's something about that
30:47that was uninhibited.
30:49Those things are transferable.
30:50Yeah.
30:51You know, I come from that open mic poetry space, so that feels supernatural to me.
30:55Yeah.
30:55Of course, like, my first line of defense would definitely be having my reservations or being
31:01more of a recluse.
31:02So KJ made the space very comfortable to, like, open up and be more receptive.
31:08I mean, of course, I still am me.
31:11And we talked a little bit about that in the session, just, like, embracing the fact that,
31:14like, that may be a part of you, but you can learn to channel it different ways.
31:18So, this is what it looks like.
31:22We all changed.
31:23Ha, ha, ha.
31:24Put out a tie.
31:25I need all the feel.
31:26I want you to use everything that you can't use when you're down there.
31:31I want you to think of new ways to perform this song.
31:34Okay.
31:35Okay?
31:41Ain't shit about me basic.
31:44Nigga rich, nigga face it.
31:45Real, real slim, waist it.
31:47Man, just put that shit on, still fly when I'm naked.
31:49Shit, have it here, embrace it.
31:51Think a horse can't see me, bitch, nigga, lace it.
31:53K.J. definitely has had me expand my palette and, you know, walk into some things that
32:00I didn't think I could do, like, leg movement, arm movement, and facial expressions and eye
32:05contact, things like that.
32:07We just really got into a lie.
32:08Whoa!
32:12That was good.
32:14How you feel?
32:15Good.
32:16I think this space allowed her to heal and really get her to tap into being present and
32:21boost her connectivity and her creativity.
32:23The exercises gave her freedom to trust herself.
32:28Put your hands together for Lady Lana!
32:34Yo, yo, yo, what's going on?
32:38Come on, y'all having a brand new year away?
32:40She is ready today, I would say, to go, like, the distance for five, and then we got to
32:53get back in and keep working so she can go the distance for another five, right?
32:57And because it's all about stamina, not just the physicality, but the emotional stamina,
33:02the mental stamina.
33:03Even when you don't feel like it, to still say, I know the people came to see me, and
33:07my mission is that I want them to know more about me, which means I got to show up.
33:11I'm so proud of you, as in you.
33:14I'll be at the show.
33:15Come on.
33:16Just tell me if you need me to come on stage.
33:17You're going to have to sing now.
33:18Oh, Jesus.
33:19I'm going to need you to sing.
33:20I'll be ready.
33:22She did it.
33:22I shed the skin of who I was, not all at once, but just because.
33:28Each scar became a fertile field where newer truths began to yield.
33:33Through pain, I shaped the stronger me, a work and endless artistry.
33:41Lay, what all you want her to put in here?
33:43I don't know.
33:44I got a couple different things.
33:46Hold on.
33:46Mainly the tops on this side?
33:48Yeah.
33:49Okay.
33:49Well, shoes on one side.
33:51Yeah, I'll put the shoes on this side.
33:52I'm thinking maybe like a little short set.
33:54That's cute.
33:55This little Kwame set right here.
33:58Should be cute.
34:00Two.
34:01Pulling out the pieces.
34:02Yeah.
34:03So, I'll get those.
34:05I feel like some cities might be a little bit colder than others,
34:08so I want to make sure I get some.
34:10Because May in Detroit versus May in like.
34:13Florida.
34:14Florida.
34:15Completely different.
34:17Completely different.
34:18Now that the album is completed,
34:20and I have my final meeting with KJ.
34:24It's time to get ready for tour.
34:28In less than 48 hours,
34:30I will be on stage in Philly turning up.
34:34I'm excited.
34:35Wait, did I show y'all the joint for the Is You Crazy video?
34:39No.
34:40No, ma'am.
34:40I got a custom straight jacket made.
34:43Oh, shit.
34:44Oh, I do.
34:44Yeah, I see that with the pants.
34:46Oh, yeah, that's fire.
34:48In the pants.
34:49I see the full jacket.
34:50Yeah, that's fine.
34:50Idea is like you enter it from the front.
34:52Mm-hmm.
34:54So you wrapped up like more?
34:55You wrapped up, and it's like so many straps on it.
34:58But the pants is crazy because they got no opening at the bottom,
35:03so you're really trapped inside the whole thing,
35:05and they're like super elongated.
35:06I think if we shoot with one of them like 120 lenses or something from afar,
35:10I'm in like an insane asylum.
35:13Okay.
35:14So it just looked like I'm like really bugging the fuck out in a padded room.
35:18That's dope, though.
35:19We may end up shooting it,
35:21so I think we may should pack it, too,
35:23because we may shoot it at some point along the journey.
35:29I can't believe it's almost time.
35:32I know.
35:34Are you excited?
35:35Yeah, hell yeah.
35:37It's been a long, long time.
35:40For real.
35:44Yes, I'm ready to do it.
35:46I used to pray for times like this.
35:48Okay.
35:48No, for real.
35:50I'm excited.
35:51It's time to go.
35:54Oh, my gosh.
35:57It's real.
35:57It's happening.
35:58It's happening.
35:59For real.
35:5933 cities.
36:0033.
36:02Jesus number.
36:04For real.
36:04I feel all things about this journey.
36:07I'm nervous.
36:08I'm excited.
36:09I'm scared.
36:10I'm like, what if they're like, boo, get off the stage,
36:13like, tomato, tomato?
36:15Because I keep tomatoes in my purse for times like this.
36:19Then I'm disappointed.
36:21Okay.
36:23But I'm more uncertain than anything.
36:26Um, but, um, I'm encouraged, and, um, I anticipate good stuff.
36:34That's what I'm manifesting.
36:36All right, well.
36:38Airport ready.
36:40I need to pack a charger, because my chargers need to be packed before my panties, okay?
36:44Yeah.
36:45Yeah.
36:45All right.
36:45Yeah.
36:45All right.
36:57Philadelphia.
36:58Let's get it.
36:59It's lit.
37:02First show.
37:03I haven't slept in two days, but that's okay.
37:08Who needs sleep?
37:13Sleep is overrated.
37:16Sleep when you're dead.
37:20So we just got to Philly,
37:22and I think my cage should be on its way, so I'm excited.
37:25Hi. Quick question.
37:26So my bird cage, so I just wanted to know the logistics of it.
37:30I have this reoccurring theme in my head
37:34about how I feel as it relates to the music industry.
37:38I've always felt like a cage bird
37:40just ready to spread her wings.
37:43So I'm having this bird cage design,
37:45and I picture the sounds of it with birds chirping,
37:49and I know why the cage bird sings being sang a cappella.
37:53As I emerge, and then you hear the DJ scratch,
37:57and it goes into the craziest freestyle.
37:59We just, you know, back to rap,
38:01and it's about nine feet by five.
38:07I'm having it structured so that it can be collapsible,
38:12and it can fit city to city along the road.
38:16So that's my hope for it.
38:17Hi, I'm Lady.
38:18Nice to meet you, it's a pleasure.
38:20I'm Eric, the stage manager.
38:21Gaeja, ladies' assistant.
38:22We're just trying to see how much space we have on the stage.
38:24Of course.
38:25So I will guide you onto stage.
38:27Okay.
38:27So if you come through this way,
38:28follow the lovely tape markings.
38:30I'll mark this out a little bit more
38:31just so you don't kick any lights.
38:32Okay.
38:33Great.
38:33Make your way onto here.
38:34During your part,
38:35your verse will be done on this side of the stage.
38:37Let's introduce you to Kira.
38:39Okay.
38:39Kira.
38:40Yes?
38:40Do you want to chat to you?
38:41Hi.
38:41Nice to meet you, Kira.
38:41How are you?
38:42It's a pleasure.
38:42Nice to meet you, Kira.
38:43Nice to meet you, too.
38:43Yes.
38:45Once Coco comes out,
38:46then I got you for your verse on Is It Mine.
38:49Okay.
38:49It's pretty easy.
38:50You come out,
38:51you'll be up here with her,
38:52party, do your thing,
38:53and then as soon as your verse is over,
38:57y'all will do the hook,
38:57she'll give you a hug,
38:58and then you can bounce when you feel like it.
39:00Okay.
39:00And then she'll sing.
39:01I think she has a second verse as well.
39:03Okay.
39:03So my particular set,
39:05what part of the stage are we utilizing for just mine?
39:08Yeah.
39:08Just the downstage?
39:09Yes, yeah.
39:10Okay.
39:10I have a cage.
39:11I'm afraid it's not going to go on stage.
39:14Will it fit?
39:14I think it's just I've been told
39:15that that's not supposed to be making
39:16the stage two stage.
39:17Okay.
39:18That's been vetoed.
39:20That's fine.
39:20That's fine.
39:21Okay.
39:21I understand, but yeah,
39:23that's what I've been instructed.
39:26Where would the DJ set up?
39:27The DJ set up,
39:28I mean, that's entirely your choice.
39:30Okay.
39:30Stage left, stage right.
39:32Okay.
39:32We can talk to house audio
39:33and just get that set up for you ahead of time.
39:34Awesome.
39:35We're happy to coordinate with that.
39:37Okay.
39:37So let me know
39:37and I can talk to the house audio guys
39:38and get that sorted out.
39:39Awesome.
39:40Thank you so much.
39:40Love you.
39:43There are some issues
39:44with the size of the stage or something.
39:47Really?
39:49Above me, I have questions.
39:50They said stick it in the corner.
39:52It might not fit on the stage.
39:54Okay.
39:54Can we see it?
39:55Y'all, why is my cage too big?
39:57I can't even use it.
39:59And then, of course,
40:00the dimensions of it
40:01leave little room
40:02for it to be broken down
40:03efficiently and put inside
40:05the back of the truck
40:06to be taken
40:07to the next 32 cities,
40:08so...
40:09I guess that's out the door.
40:12You can actually just show me
40:13how to do it here
40:14and then we'll disassemble it
40:15and then put it away.
40:16We won't be able to use it
40:17for this show, so...
40:18I'll help you get it
40:19wherever you're storing it.
40:21I just need to know
40:22where it goes.
40:23I don't want to move it
40:23three times.
40:24Okay.
40:25Yeah, it's just fun.
40:26This one.
40:28I'm fucking pissed,
40:30but it's time to
40:32get myself together,
40:34get my team right,
40:35get dressed,
40:37and go on stage.
40:38It's the show must go on.
40:39...seeds
40:41Only joy comes from song
40:45She's so red
40:50I'm a woman who's all about
41:04from concept to tangible.
41:06I love to see something in my mind
41:08become touchable by humans.
41:11And when it doesn't happen that way
41:14and I followed all the necessary steps
41:16to make it happen that way,
41:17I think I can be overwhelmed
41:21and overcome by emotions
41:22that aren't necessarily reflective
41:24of sadness but defeat
41:27and expectation that led to disappointment.
41:30And that's the part I can't handle.
41:33It's because if I have no expectations,
41:35if I didn't do any of the work,
41:37then I can live with that.
41:39But I digress.
41:42Philly, how are we feeling tonight, Philly?
41:45Philadelphia, I love you.
41:47I love y'all so much.
41:49I am God's PR.
41:50May we leave from this place,
41:52but never from this presence.
41:53I am out of here.
41:54Come eat in the green room.
42:07Screamin'.
42:08Life happens.
42:09Life be lifin', and that's fine.
42:11But we got a show to make happen.
42:13What's up, Jay?
42:14Let me get myself together.
42:15You don't have to get my girl on.
42:17During tour, I like to change wigs regularly.
42:20I want to give the colors.
42:21I want to give the personality.
42:24And I think every time I hit that stage,
42:26I should embody some different type of energy
42:29that's welcoming and embracing.
42:31Look pretty.
42:32Sure, yeah.
42:32So I got my blonde hair,
42:34hair like Maggie,
42:36perfectly done.
42:37Fun fact,
42:38this wig has seen me through years.
42:41It's in the Yeah Yeah video.
42:43The pull-up scene.
42:44Pull-up line.
42:45Pull-up army.
42:46It's in the Sierra videos,
42:48it's in the Do Something video,
42:49and many, many more.
42:51So, yeah, girl.
42:53She got to that stage.
42:55Girl, fake tour.
42:58I appreciate it for my birthday,
42:59so my best friend for all things.
43:00Oh, nice.
43:01Happy birthday.
43:02Opening up the opportunity
43:04for meet and greets in each city
43:06is crucial to an artist's development,
43:09especially as one of the newer artists,
43:11especially as an opener
43:12or support on a tour.
43:13It gives fans
43:15that weren't necessarily
43:16fans of yours prior to
43:19an opportunity to meet you,
43:20and it gives your friends
43:21an opportunity
43:22to get in contact with you as well.
43:24Hi, how are you?
43:26It's so pretty.
43:27Oh, my God.
43:28And it's also just
43:30really dope experiences
43:31that happen during meet and greets.
43:33People are able to tell you
43:34your impact on them
43:36and tell you their stories
43:37and their journeys.
43:39Thank you so much.
43:40It's my mother.
43:51Zaire, to me,
43:52is a student of habit.
43:54Lady London is more of an entity.
43:58She's more elaborate.
44:01She's more artistic.
44:05When she's in Lady London mode,
44:06it's more just bigger.
44:09They saying that your mom's name
44:11is not on the list,
44:12so I was about to go get John.
44:13Okay.
44:14So a tour, yeah, yeah.
44:16I intend on being there,
44:18you know,
44:20for as many cities
44:21as I possibly can be
44:22so I can, you know,
44:24make sure that she's okay.
44:26I just want to be able
44:26to reassure her,
44:27be there for her
44:28before she goes on stage
44:29to reassure her,
44:31you know,
44:31when she gets on stage
44:32to give her the confidence
44:33that she, you know,
44:34blew it out.
44:35I just,
44:35I feel like I need to be present.
44:37Hi, beautiful.
44:38I can't wait
44:39to hear all the goodness.
44:42You look good.
44:43I hope you feel good.
44:44I hope you know
44:45that this is,
44:46you are the moment.
44:48I appreciate it.
44:48I'm excited.
44:49I just wanted to make sure
44:50that your heart was right
44:52and that your mind was right
44:54and that, you know,
44:55that you are the yes,
44:56you are the solution
44:57to so many people out there.
44:59Yeah.
45:00You know,
45:00but it comes,
45:01it stems from you knowing
45:03that you've been qualified
45:04for this thing
45:05for a long time.
45:06Right.
45:06So go ahead and out there
45:07and use everything
45:08that God gave you
45:09to be exactly
45:10who you want it to be.
45:11We had a little minor,
45:12uh-uh.
45:14The building that is built
45:15on a hill
45:16cannot be hidden.
45:17So we're going to keep going.
45:19Talk to KJ.
45:21Very inspirational.
45:23We had that final talk.
45:24We had that reassuring conversation
45:26and everything that we practiced
45:28and everything
45:28that we talked about
45:30and all that fear
45:31that needed to be left behind
45:34was left right there.
