Ecco la nostra intervista a Don Cheadle, Sonequa Martin-Green e Malcom D. Lee, rispettivamente protagonisti e regista di Space Jam: New Legends, al cinema dal 23 settembre, distribuito da Warner Bros.
00:00There are so many messages behind, like accept yourself as you are, accept your father, trying to grow as you want, but don't forget to have fun.
00:13So can we say play out but laugh in the meantime?
00:17Yeah, I think so.
00:19And I think, you know, all of the characters in this movie, the main three characters in this movie, they all want the same thing.
00:25They don't all want it in the same way and they don't all, they are not all willing to do anything to get it, but they all want to be seen, right?
00:34They all want to be heard.
00:35They all want to be respected.
00:37They all want to be valued, all three of them.
00:40So it's cool that that's kind of the theme of the movie, I think, and you get to see the different ways that each of these characters goes about that.
00:46If you have to choose an hypothetical basketball dream team, which, you know, all characters from all movies cannot be missed?
00:57I would mash LeBron and Michael Jordan together.
01:01I would make them one player and then put them out on the court.
01:06Okay, great choice.
01:08So I think your character is the real boss of the family, as all the women.
01:14She puts everybody in the right, yeah, she puts everybody in the right place.
01:18And I think she is the hero of this story, actually.
01:22Thank you.
01:23So we have the same age.
01:25And in the opening of the movie where you can see the Game Boy, gosh, it was so nostalgic.
01:31So do you think this movie could be a great chance to learn from the past and enjoy the present?
01:39Yes.
01:39And I think that's beautifully said.
01:42I think that that is what this movie does, is it connects us to the past.
01:48You know, it has those things that you want to see, those nuggets of, you know, connectivity to the original,
01:56that make you feel nostalgic, that remind you of that time, remind you of your childhood, all that.
02:02But then it also has all these new elements that make it relevant for today and also make it relatable for today.
02:14Because there's been such change in the last 25 years since the first one came out.
02:17So I appreciate the way the story has been modernized.
02:21I was, I was concerned when I first heard about a sequel, but I think that it was modernized to near perfection.
02:27And I appreciate that so much.
02:30If you had to choose an hypothetical basketball dream team, which old character from movies or whatever you want cannot be missed?
02:40Hmm.
02:42Well, I've definitely got to get MJ on the team.
02:45That's okay.
02:46I got to get MJ in his prime on the team and I got to have Braun on the team.
02:55That's for sure.
02:56And it's a good choice.
02:57Yeah.
02:58Right.
02:58And it's like a three on three type situation.
03:02I would go with the two of them and Lola Bunny and we would win every game.
03:06Perfect.
03:07So Malcolm Space Jam, congratulations for your courage.
03:12As a director, I don't think it was easy to say yes.
03:15How did you keep the balance between the past and the present?
03:21You know, I had a love of the Looney Tunes.
03:24They're classically funny.
03:26You know, they're classic comedy.
03:28I was watching them since I was, you know, a little kid, you know, on Saturday morning cartoons.
03:33I'm a great basketball enthusiast.
03:36So, you know, I know the game.
03:39I love the game.
03:40So, you know, trying to bring those two together with all these, you know, great visual effects and animators was a great challenge.
03:50But one that I embraced after I got over my kind of fear and intimidation of it.
03:55You know, it was it was a great, great experience.
03:58If you had to choose an hypothetical basketball dream team, which, you know, character from the past, old character, old actor or I don't know, VIP cannot be missed.
04:11LeBron, Michael Jordan, Shaquille O'Neal, the Tasmanian Devil.
