A bride who was devastated her soldier brother wouldn’t be able to attend her big day was left stunned when he showed up to surprise her with a brother-sister dance. Mayia Broughton, 25, from Arlington, Virginia, and her siblings see their younger brother Daryl, 19, as the "gentle giant" of the family, having grown up around three older sisters. Daryl joined the U.S. Army in 2025, and after graduating basic training in July, was then based at Fort Gordon in Augusta, Georgia. Ahead of his sister's big day, and still new to military protocols, Daryl told Mayia it was unlikely he would be able to make her wedding, as such sacrifices were part of military life. Secretly, though, Daryl was planning on getting permission for leave – and after things were approved, he started working on a plan for the big surprise. Having hid in a hotel ahead of the wedding, in Summerville, South Carolina, on September 6, Daryl then sent a special request to Mayia's DJ. As the bride was asked to come to the dance floor, she was told her brother had requested a song played in his absence. Then, with Mayia looking confused, Daryl tapped his older sister on the shoulder, which caused her to scream and cover her mouth in shock.
