00:00Cabin Fever was released 10 years ago, the book.
00:08What is it like to return to that adventure and bring it in another language?
00:16It's really exciting to adapt this movie because a long time ago,
00:22it might have been about 10 years ago, we started talking about this project.
00:26And so this was the dream to make this the first animated Disney Plus movie,
00:32or actually back then Disney Plus didn't even exist.
00:36So it's really gratifying.
00:38It's the first winter story.
00:40It's the first holiday story we've ever done in film.
00:44So it's really cool.
00:45And also it's really nice to talk to you, Kiara.
00:47I go to Italy every year and the fans there are so nice to me.
00:52And the Schiappa is really popular there.
00:55So hopefully you read them when you were younger, but it really is cool to talk to you.
01:00And how was the adaptation process and the work with the production team?
01:06Well, it was a long process because at first I wrote this as a holiday special.
01:11That was like a 22 minute holiday special.
01:13And over the years it changed and changed again as streaming started to become a real thing.
01:18And so eventually we made it into a one hour special and I wrote it.
01:23So it was, it's really amazing actually to be able to write the dialogue and to write scenes.
01:31There's a real power when you're a screenwriter because your first scene could say,
01:35open on the snowy neighborhood with kids running around and having snowball fights.
01:40And all of a sudden a whole team of people has to make that a reality.
01:44And so that's really, really exciting.
01:46And also I have a really good relationship with the producers.
01:50There are two producers I work with and the director.
01:53So it was really a joyful creative process.
01:56And you invented these characters a long time ago.
02:02It was a big, big success.
02:05You imagine them, you wrote them and you bring them on the big screen.
02:10You have to bring them on the big screen.
02:12In all this time, how has the relationship with Greg and the other characters changed for you?
02:19I guess, you know, when I started writing about Greg Heffley, I was 28 years old and now I'm 52.
02:24So it's almost twice, you know, it's almost my whole life doubled.
02:29So, but I don't think I have a different attitude about Greg than I did before.
02:34He's a messy character.
02:35I knew that from the beginning and he's not really a hero.
02:39So, and I'm comfortable with that.
