00:00hi guys and welcome to drive spark and in today's video we're going to tell you a very very important
00:06safety rule that you should definitely follow if you're going on the road especially if you're on
00:11a two-wheeler and on a four-wheeler as well now following a safe distance is really really
00:16important and on indian road traffic is really predictable suddenly a cow will cross the road
00:22then suddenly a scooter will come in out of nowhere or any vehicle may break hard and that can turn
00:28a normal drive into a dangerous situation so these are the things that we see on a day-to-day basis
00:33on indian roads and that is why this video is really important for you all because you should
00:39definitely follow some safety following distances while you're driving on indian road now the simple
00:44way is to keep a safe distance and an adequate distance from the vehicle ahead that space between
00:50your car and the one in the front is called a safe following distance now this allows you to react
00:56on time slow down or even steer left to right if an unexpected event occurs in front of you
01:01on the road now when the weather is clear it's sunny visibility is nice a moderate gap is enough but
01:07during rain and foggy season i think the gap should really increase and you should keep a good buffer
01:13between two vehicles now there is one rule that is called a three second rule and many motorists in
01:18india assume that staying inches away from the vehicle ahead of them will get them through traffic
01:23faster but tailgating is one of the leading causes of highway accidents road safety experts including
01:29the american national road safety foundation recommends following a three second rule it takes
01:35nearly two to three seconds to register danger and react so drivers should always maintain a two to
01:40three second distance from the vehicle that is up to speeds up to 80 kilometers in normal condition
01:47well at higher speeds between 80 to 100 kilometers an hour when you're experiencing rain or wet surfaces
01:53the gap should increase to four to five seconds and that is an adequate distance from the vehicle that
01:58is going at the front especially on hilly stretches foggy conditions or when the road are really really
02:04slippery the distance need to be increased even more up to seven to eight seconds that means you have to
02:10keep a really really good gap if you're on mountains if the road is really foggy or if it is raining very
02:18heavily the gap must be even greater when driving behind buses or trucks since the large size will
02:23block your view and make it harder for you to notice the vehicle in the mirror i think if there are
02:29trucks in front of you you should definitely avoid going behind them tailgating them and if you do
02:35definitely keep a buffer now as i mentioned traffic in india is really unpredictable with two wheelers just
02:41cutting through lanes left and center especially auto rickshaw stopping suddenly to take passengers
02:46and buses shifting lanes without signals to take the passengers as well now add to that potholes stray
02:52animals and pedestrians into the mix and the chances of braking really hard making a large buffer essential
02:59at that time if another vehicle cuts in your space tailgating aggressively is unsafe when confronted
03:07with the tailgater please stay calm and hold your lane now on multi-lane highway switch lanes safely
03:13and let the important drivers pass don't block their way on single road use the safe shoulder or turn
03:19into the wayside if available or if necessary avoid sudden acceleration or any rash maneuvers and always
03:27signal your intentions clearly the golden rule remains simple keep your distance keep your cool
03:33and let time work in your favor now these are some important tips that you really need to know when
03:38you're going on a highway or if you're driving in the city as well so keep a safe distance from the
03:44vehicle in front of you if the weather is clear if the weather is not clear it's hazy it's foggy it's
03:51rainy maintain even a further distance so that you get time to react just in case something happens to
03:57the vehicle in front of you i hope you like this video if you liked it do give a thumbs up share and
