UON staff strike: National Tertiary Education Union (NTEU) members walked off the job for half a day in protest over stalled enterprise bargaining talks and proposed job and course cuts.
Transcript
00:00Hey! Alex! Leave our jobs alone!
00:10So, members of the NTU at Newcastle are striking today because we're not getting anywhere in enterprise bargaining.
00:17Our pay and conditions are being lessened, are deteriorating, and we want to maintain those pay and conditions
00:27primarily because staff conditions are student conditions.
00:31So, if staff are not happy, if staff are overworked, if staff feel that their jobs are in peril,
00:37then that reflects, of course, on the student experience and on the research that the community relies upon
00:44for a more prosperous hunter.
00:47We're going to deliver to the Vice-Chancellor genuine feedback on what staff think about
00:54the progress in bargaining and what's going on with the changes in the university
01:00with people losing their jobs and the general restructures.
