00:00A planned teacher strike for those working under Glasgow City Council has been suspended
00:04following discussions between unions and the local authority. Members of the Educational
00:09Institute for Scotland had intended to strike on the 20th of February in protest of education cuts,
00:15a decision that's now been halted and reversed. The union received an offer from the council's
00:20SMP group to withdraw future planned cuts and promised that additional Scottish Government
00:26funding will be used to increase the number of teachers working in schools to 2023 levels.
00:32The union said they suspended industrial action in good faith before they meet the council for
00:36discussions next week. The council said they will find 17 million pounds over the next two years to
00:42fund this move to represent their commitment to the teaching force and improve the quality
00:47of education in Glasgow. The union did say that while the offer is not yet binding and still has
00:52to pass through a process, it marks a victory in their campaign.
