00:00I love taking baths, but I can't do it here.
00:02And that frustrates me.
00:03Oh, man.
00:04What do you do?
00:06Matt, he's my contractor.
00:07There's no way he's going to get this done.
00:09This is a unique wreck.
00:11It's the burnout of this being his own home.
00:15I need you to make a decision.
00:17It's way harder being on this side of the table.
00:21I value the working relationship that I have with Matt.
00:24I don't want to do anything that could jeopardize that.
00:27Oh, man.
00:28Matt sent over the changes.
00:30What did he change?
00:31We added these six recess lights.
00:32Is Jasmine designing this, or is Matt designing this?
00:35I want to challenge you to kind of let me do my thing.
00:39Oh, my gosh.
00:42Oh!
00:42Between social media, how-to videos, and baseless tutorials,
00:46inspired DIYers are taking on bigger and bigger projects,
00:51leaving their homes in complete chaos.
00:54What have you done?
00:55There's a big hole in the wall.
00:57The flood made it.
00:58And this was a DIY gone wrong.
00:59What have we started?
01:01This is sketchy.
01:02You step in the wrong spot.
01:04You're going through.
01:06Yeah.
01:08For years, I've helped families in Southern California
01:11restore order to their dream homes.
01:13Oh!
01:14We're done!
01:16Now I've moved my family to Park City, Utah,
01:18where I'm rebuilding my business,
01:20and I know it's not going to be easy.
01:22New town, new business, new recs.
01:32Are you hungry?
01:33Look, here's some potato.
01:34Here's some tortilla.
01:36Yum, yum, yum.
01:38What are you working on?
01:39Just artwork.
01:40Oh, my goodness.
01:41I can tell you've been practicing your writing.
01:43That looks great.
01:44Age.
01:45You're not four!
01:46No.
01:47Oh, no!
01:48Scrabble it.
01:49Scrabble over it.
01:51By the way, we could use this art in your room if you want.
01:54We could frame it.
01:55What do you want for your room?
01:56Oh, hold on.
01:57We'll talk about it in a minute, OK?
01:59Hi, Jasmine.
02:00Hi.
02:01Oh, look at your cute girl.
02:02You know what's funny?
02:03I saw Russell, and I assumed it was Matt.
02:05Well, different MR this time.
02:07Matt is the contractor I've been working with probably the most
02:09since I've moved to Utah.
02:11Matt and Misha, it's the real deal.
02:12They've been married for a year.
02:13They've been together for two years.
02:14They're so cute.
02:15So I know you're busy, but I wanted to run something by you,
02:17because Matt has loved working with you.
02:19You know what?
02:20Yeah.
02:21I really want to make our primary bedroom and bathroom
02:23remodel special.
02:24I didn't know you guys were doing a remodel.
02:26It's our first project that we're doing together.
02:28It's a large space, and I've been kind of stumped on the design.
02:30He obviously has the know-how, but we have no time for this.
02:32You two would be a dream team.
02:33Aw.
02:34Any chance it would work for me to come over tomorrow?
02:35I would love that.
02:36I'm excited to see it.
02:37I've never been to your guys' house.
02:38OK.
02:39I'm going to let you get back to your hair time.
02:40Mask and jammies, you cute girls.
02:49I can't believe I'm going to Matt's house right now.
02:50I'm excited.
02:51This is the last place I ever expected to be going.
02:52So we've been married a year.
02:53Matt and I got set up.
02:54We went on a lunch date, and it was pretty quick for us to kind of know that it was going
03:10to be a really, really good thing.
03:12We dated a year, you know, getting to know each other's kids.
03:14We have a blended family now.
03:15A lot of new changes.
03:18Kids and jobs and everything that we're trying to combine into one new lifestyle.
03:23Matt's renovated most of the house, but he hasn't touched the main bedroom and bathroom.
03:28And this bath, not usable.
03:31I love taking baths, but I can't do it here, and that's frustrating.
03:34Have you ever tried to trim your beard over a tile countertop?
03:37You can't clean it up.
03:38And there's just so many little things.
03:40Trying to dry hands.
03:41This comes right onto the wall.
03:43It just feels frustrating to have these spaces and not be able to use them.
03:47We all know how fast time goes and gets away from us.
03:50There's much more urgency because I want to enjoy that space with her now, not five years,
03:53ten years down the road.
03:54I know that this has been a project that's been needed to be done for a long time.
03:57Yesterday was our anniversary.
03:59It's probably about time that I made this a priority.
04:02And he did start the project.
04:03That's big.
04:04I love him, but there's no way he's going to get this done.
04:07And now we're going to have holes and gross dust everywhere.
04:10My background in construction, I've been doing this since I was probably about 16 years old.
04:14If I come home at night and I have my own problem or a client's problem,
04:18I take care of my client's problem first.
04:20It's one of those things, you know, you're helping other people.
04:22You're out and about.
04:23You're working on other people's houses.
04:25And the last thing you want to do when you get home is think about your own projects.
04:30I'm not such a talented builder, but I'm feeling kind of paralyzed in the size of everything.
04:36Matt wants to be the contractor on his own job, which I fully appreciate and I get.
04:41My concern is since I just moved to Utah, I don't have the network of people that I had in California.
04:48It's something that I've been working to build here in Utah.
04:51And Matt's the closest thing I have to being like, yeah, this is my guy.
04:55This is my contractor.
04:56I don't want to do anything that could jeopardize that.
04:59Hello?
05:00Hi, Jasmine.
05:01I just like walk into your house.
05:03Good to see you.
05:04Hi.
05:05We're excited to have you here.
05:07Matt.
05:08Oh, this is great.
05:09Jasmine's here.
05:10Woo!
05:11Good to have you.
05:12Hey, Jasmine.
05:13Good to see you.
05:14Good to see you.
05:15Welcome.
05:17Beautiful.
05:18Yeah, thanks.
05:19Kind of a work in progress.
05:20How long have you had this house?
05:21The house was built in 1995 and I've been here nine years.
05:25You've been here one?
05:26And Nisha's been here one.
05:27What have you like as a couple done to this house?
05:30Not a whole lot.
05:31We have this great primary bedroom and bathroom.
05:33I really want it to feel like it's ours.
05:35Why haven't you done anything with the space up until now?
05:38There's just not a lot of time and when we do get time, we want to go do adventures and
05:41Decompress and clients always take priority over, yeah.
05:45I grew up with a dad that's contract, so I get how this goes.
05:47Oh, okay.
05:48Your home is kind of the last thing, not because you don't want to do it, but it just kind of
05:52gets put off.
05:53My mom was so sweet that I remember our laundry room had a big hole somewhere and I remember
05:57she was taking, you know, laundry elsewhere to do it and not complaining because she was
06:01that sweet.
06:02But I remember thinking, Dad, you're a builder.
06:03You can do this.
06:04Come on, let's go.
06:05So this is the entry to the primary bedroom.
06:08This is where the remodeling stopped and this is where 1995 starts.
06:13Are you ready?
06:14You've really set the stage.
06:17This is huge.
06:18It's big.
06:19It's a big space.
06:21It's a lot of 1995.
06:23These are where the piles go.
06:25Things that over the years, me and me and my kids have found playing in the mountains.
06:28I'm a very, like, clean lines person.
06:30I don't like clutter.
06:31I would love to pull up and have this be a desk space.
06:33And then over here where there's this fireplace, like, I kind of picture having a place to
06:37come and curl up and read a book.
06:39Again, there's nothing to cozy up to.
06:41Now that there's two of us, we'll use this space different than I used it.
06:43For sure.
06:44Right?
06:45We need to collaborate and make it ours.
06:46I actually love this.
06:47I love the cowboy in that.
06:48The hats.
06:49It's like the vacuum's there.
06:50It could be cooler, this whole space.
06:52But bald guys like hats.
06:53You got working hats, cowboy hats.
06:56So...
06:57Oh, it's good.
06:58You like that?
06:59Yeah.
07:00Misha got her first cowboy hat last year.
07:01Amazing.
07:02Right?
07:03At the rodeo, you did come to the rodeo.
07:04That is so cute.
07:05Okay, fine.
07:06I'll go to the rodeo.
07:07Okay, so the hat's something that you think you might want to incorporate in the room?
07:11I think so.
07:12Tell me about this fireplace.
07:13I've never liked the stone.
07:14The river rock?
07:15Yeah.
07:16I would redo the whole thing.
07:17How would you describe your style?
07:18I tend to be a little more like modern traditional, so I'm a little more plain.
07:21I love kind of more of a neutral palette, but interesting with textures.
07:25I kind of envision different spots that serve a purpose.
07:28I love the more rustic feel.
07:30I wanted to feel comfortable.
07:31I envision our different styles kind of coming together.
07:34He has more of a rustic and I have a little bit more of a modern traditional and just kind
07:37of that farmhouse feel.
07:38I feel like you guys are being really nice to each other.
07:42We don't even married a year.
07:44We are really nice to each other.
07:46The more like nervous they get, they smile and laugh, which is great.
07:50But I'm trying to like see through this and make sure that I'm asking the right questions
07:55and digging a little bit deeper because I don't want to smile and laugh through this and then
07:59have them with regrets at the end.
08:01I want to make sure that you guys aren't being too nice.
08:04No, I promise I actually would say if I had more of an opinion on certain things.
08:07And you're probably right.
08:08I'm trying to be very careful because I think I have some strong opinions.
08:11But you're definitely open to ideas.
08:12Sure.
08:13Yeah, we just have to like figure out what zones we want to have in here.
08:17So we're going to use furniture in a clever way to create different rooms within this room.
08:23The fireplace, full facelift.
08:25The walls get a fresh coat of paint.
08:27This headboard wall becomes an accent wall.
08:29The ceiling I think is a huge opportunity.
08:31We add a beam where the ceiling comes to a point and then we add beams that come down
08:37from that on the small part and all the way down on the big part.
08:42That's going to actually make the ceiling feel like it's not just this massive white space.
08:46And de-dooded a little.
08:49Is that a thing?
08:50Yeah.
08:51It's a thing.
08:52Are you ready to go in the bathroom?
08:53So the bathroom I'm excited about.
08:54All right.
08:55Got a lot of ideas.
08:56Let's take a look.
08:57Oh, man.
08:58Did I mention he started the project?
08:59Oh, my.
09:00What do you do?
09:01We just were getting ready to start.
09:03There's good intentions all over here.
09:04This is like a whole deck with a step and a whole thing.
09:07So we've got the tub here.
09:08We've got the water closet there.
09:09Yeah.
09:10The linen closet here.
09:11There's actually a pretty good shower.
09:13Going in.
09:14But it's so dark.
09:15There is light.
09:16But when you're in here, you're in a cave.
09:18You feel like you're in a cave.
09:19Yeah, yeah.
09:20The size of the shower is good.
09:21I think the size is great.
09:22Yeah.
09:23Okay.
09:24You mentioned that you have a lot of big ideas.
09:26I kind of always pictured maybe doing some of that barn wood behind the tub.
09:29I think the antlers could come down in my opinion.
09:31You've never said that before.
09:32Well, they can stay too, but I just, I don't know how necessary that is.
09:36So they should come down, but they can stay.
09:38That's your opinion?
09:39I'm just saying they could come down.
09:41It's a plus.
09:42I'm planting that seed.
09:43They've never done a project together before.
09:45So I might be a bit of a mediator.
09:48I'm up for the challenge.
09:49Here I come.
09:50Right in the middle of everything.
09:51Obviously the double vanity.
09:52We don't want little mirrors.
09:53And doing a new tile floor.
09:56For a long time, it's just been my space.
09:58To create something that she feels like is ours is the driving force now.
10:03I don't have the design expertise, and so I love that you're here to help us with that.
10:07So how do we bring that all together, Jasmine, and make it our space?
10:10Yeah.
10:11It's a challenge for sure.
10:12Yeah.
10:13There's a lot to figure out.
10:14This is a unique wreck.
10:15It's the burnout of this being his own home.
10:19It's the prioritization.
10:21It's the nervousness of trying to make sure that everybody's happy.
10:26We have to de-dude it as well.
10:29For the vanity area, we redo everything.
10:32Solid surface countertop, double sinks, double mirrors.
10:36New flooring, obviously, throughout the whole bathroom.
10:39You can go with a porcelain tile.
10:40And then the tub area, we replace it with a freestanding tub.
10:45Maybe we figure out a way to add the skull on the wall.
10:49Maybe we don't.
10:50I'm not sure.
10:51And then we turn this linen closet into more of a statement and less of just a door on the wall.
10:57Speaking of a statement, this shower, I think, will be the real wow factor.
11:01So run the tile floor to ceiling, do a nice big door.
11:05And I think with that, this bathroom suddenly is transformed from 1995 to today.
11:11I love it.
11:12I like that plan.
11:13My next question for you.
11:14Yeah?
11:15What's the budget?
11:16There's a lot of finished work that's going to be done in this space.
11:17A lot.
11:18I've set aside $100,000 for this project.
11:20And that's what we need to stay within.
11:22$100,000 is a lot of money.
11:24And I fully understand this is only two rooms.
11:27But these are big spaces, a fireplace, a massive ceiling, a gut renovation of a full bathroom.
11:33There's just a lot that goes into this.
11:35I think that we should treat this like one of your other jobs.
11:39Yes, for sure.
11:40I need to do that so that it stays on track.
11:42If you're here and you're involved, you can almost be that driving force.
11:45Oh, for sure.
11:46Maybe you can be the bad guy.
11:48Normally, I tell you to move out.
11:49Do we need to move out?
11:50You're the contractor, right?
11:52I've never been down this path before.
11:53We need to move our stuff out.
11:55Yeah.
11:56I mean, are you guys okay to live in this house with this whole side of it under construction?
12:00It's just a normal day at the office for me.
12:02Fair.
12:03Sounds like for you, too.
12:04We're ready, for sure.
12:05Sleep on the couch.
12:06Okay.
12:07I'm gonna walk in and be like, get up!
12:09This will be great for us.
12:11I told Matt we're gonna get this done in seven weeks.
12:18We worked really well on two client projects together.
12:22But I'm nervous because doing a renovation is so personal, right?
12:26You're in people's lives.
12:28You're in their homes.
12:29You're asking hard questions.
12:31What if we don't want to work together after this project?
12:34I don't want to lose him.
12:36What did you do to the carpet?
12:37Trying to roll it back just to protect it so it doesn't get all ruined while we start
12:41demo today.
12:42It's been a long night.
12:43Yeah?
12:44Short morning.
12:45Okay, and you told your office no calls today?
12:46I've got till about noon.
12:47Till noon?
12:48Till noon.
12:49That's like three and a half hours.
12:51Uh, yeah.
12:52We're gonna have to work really hard to get a bunch of stuff done in a short amount of time.
12:55All right, we got this.
12:56Let's go in the bathroom.
12:57Okay, you pulled the doors.
12:58Looks great.
12:59I mean, I think we should just get into it.
13:00We know what we need to do.
13:01Okay, let's do it.
13:02I'm gonna grab my tool bag.
13:03Okay.
13:06By the way, I'm here less for the demo.
13:08I'm a chaperone.
13:09I'm here to make sure that you stay focused on this project.
13:16Oh!
13:18I love it!
13:21Uh, Matt?
13:23Is this supposed to be here?
13:25That's not good.
13:26Uh-uh.
13:28I didn't put that there.
13:29That's a vent stack that's going up.
13:31In order for this wall of glass to be the face of the shower, this vent stack has to move.
13:37I mean, you got space over here, maybe?
13:39Move it over here?
13:40Yeah, I think we're gonna have to.
13:41It's just a pain.
13:42It's just annoying.
13:43It's not that big of a deal.
13:45There he goes.
13:46There he goes.
13:51My phone.
13:52I've got to do it.
13:53Can't hear you.
13:54I don't have a choice.
13:55I'll be right back.
13:57I'm on a tight deadline this morning.
14:00The ceiling is two inches out of level.
14:02I'm not doing this by myself.
14:05I can't do anything.
14:07Well, I'll call you in a minute, but I'm getting in trouble right now.
14:09I'll call you back.
14:10I'll call you back.
14:11Bye-bye.
14:12Breaking rules.
14:13I was doing, I was multitasking.
14:15Oh, boy.
14:17It'll be so much better when it doesn't have this mini door, but also just like having it open, you'll be able to see all the tile inside.
14:24Yeah.
14:25And I've already got the tile for it.
14:26What?
14:27I've been collecting stuff for this job for a long time.
14:29I've got, I've got a tub.
14:30I've got a tile.
14:31I've got some beautiful barn wood.
14:33Where is it?
14:34It's just in my barn.
14:35Can I see it?
14:36Yeah.
14:37I'll look at it real quick.
14:38I don't want Matt to think that because he has a few things picked out, he is in charge of this design.
14:44I'd rather do the whole thing.
14:45I don't want to have some design at the end that is half him and half me.
14:50You've got like a full thing going here.
14:52This pile of wood?
14:53This is my graveyard of old, reclaimed wood.
14:56I mean, I usually have to go like source this somewhere.
14:59You've got your own lumber yard of reclaimed wood.
15:02All right.
15:05Look at that.
15:07Oh, here's your friends.
15:08There's the goats.
15:09They're really cute.
15:10This is a tub.
15:12I always thought this would be something that we'd probably use.
15:14I'm concerned about the vibe.
15:15Like in the sense that this is very vintage.
15:18Yeah.
15:19Misha's goal is to take a bath in this bathroom.
15:21And I think she wants new.
15:22So this is the tile.
15:23Oh.
15:24I think it is such a pretty tile.
15:26Got great coloring on it.
15:27That's so pretty.
15:28The field tile I just fell in love with.
15:31Look at that.
15:32So pretty.
15:33Isn't that pretty?
15:34Yeah.
15:35I have enough of it to do the whole shower, but I have enough to do an accent on the back
15:38wall of the shower.
15:39From a design standpoint, I'm concerned that what would we get to go with this?
15:43You know what I mean?
15:44Like how are we going to make this feel intentional?
15:46Yeah.
15:47Would you do the whole shower in this?
15:48Because I would.
15:49I would do the whole shower in that.
15:50Why wasn't it your initial thought to just like buy enough for the whole shower?
15:54I was trying to be cost effective and I was trying to maximize what I had.
15:56Is this expensive?
15:57Yeah.
15:58It's expensive tile.
15:59Okay.
16:00Two options.
16:01Okay.
16:02You either say goodbye to this tile and you go purchase a full shower and the ceiling
16:08of tile that's a third of the price.
16:10Yeah.
16:11Or you figure out how much more you need of this and buy it.
16:16I need you to make a decision.
16:18You don't have to make it right this second.
16:20It's way harder being on this side of the table.
16:23I've got to hurry and make that decision then.
16:25Yep.
16:26Let me know.
16:27Get caught, get loose again.
16:30Everybody asking what's happening.
16:33Let them know about the refashioning.
16:36This has been way bigger undertaking than I've got time for.
16:41It's been forever trying to get all that filling up that fireplace.
16:45There's an added layer when you work with somebody on their personal home.
16:48And I don't want this to ruin our relationship.
16:50Anything else that I've got to do for that?
16:52Yeah.
16:53I guess if I need to meet them there, then I'm happy to.
16:55Bye.
16:56Sorry.
16:57The industry never sleeps.
16:58I'll tell you.
16:59Getting everything ready.
17:01Oh, yeah.
17:02Fireplace looks better.
17:03Should we leave it like that?
17:04Maybe not like that.
17:07Wow.
17:08Look at this bathroom.
17:09You're cruising.
17:10This is great.
17:11I think my only concern with working with Jasmine on my own project is a lot of times with construction,
17:16people come in with a heavy hammer and trying to force their opinions on someone.
17:20And I'm okay with opinions, but I also wanted to have a voice.
17:23I wasn't going to, but I decided to add some more lighting in the bedroom.
17:27Oh, you did?
17:28Yeah.
17:29We added these six recess lights.
17:31The six lights and some switching and stuff, I mean, were probably about $1,200.
17:34It's $1,200 out of your contingency.
17:40Jared is a local carpenter that Matt has known for a very long time, since high school actually.
17:44And I think he's the perfect guy for this project, right?
17:46He cares so much about Matt and about his house.
17:49I'm going to bring him in to help with, in the bathroom, the linen closet and the vanity,
17:53and then in the bedroom, the beams.
17:55Hi.
17:56Jasmine, hi.
17:57How's it going?
17:58Good to see you.
17:59There's always a lot going on here, so it's super fun.
18:01Oh my gosh.
18:02Yes.
18:03Adding beams, I think we can take away some of the heaviness of the ceiling.
18:08It's going to set this room apart and make it feel luxurious.
18:11The main beam is 30 feet long.
18:14It's a long beam.
18:16These beams, I think, are a great opportunity to combine both Misha and Matt's design sensibilities.
18:22Inherently, a beam is more like a rustic architectural touch, which I think he'll really appreciate.
18:27And then it can look modern, which I think Misha will really like.
18:30Oh, yeah.
18:31What a difference, huh?
18:32Beautiful.
18:33Look at all of that grain come out.
18:35And then in the bathroom, we've got the vanity cabinet and the linen closet cabinet.
18:41We ran into a little hiccup when Matt sent over the changes, but they're about finished now.
18:46What did he change?
18:47He changed the glass on the linen closet.
18:49Apparently, you didn't know about that change.
18:51I did not.
18:52All right.
18:53Can we see it?
18:54Well, now I'm nervous to show you.
18:56Yeah, me too.
18:59Here it is.
19:00Obviously, it's not quite finished yet, but it's pretty close.
19:04The original design was a full glass door with the cabinetry behind it.
19:09It's not what I had designed, but that's not your fault.
19:12It looks great.
19:13By the time we got to this design, it actually did save him a couple thousand dollars.
19:17Oh, okay.
19:18He got a little excited about that.
19:20I'm sure.
19:21Yeah.
19:22He did just add a bunch of can lights in his bedroom without me knowing either.
19:25So, this guy's keeping me on my toes.
19:27I can't.
19:28I'll get a piece of paper out of here.
19:40Okay.
19:41We have lived in our house for seven months now, and Hazel's room has never been worked
19:47on, and so I want to do her room, and I want to do it fast.
19:50She can't be in there while we're working.
19:52You know you're not my only client right now.
19:54You may be my hardest client, but you're not my only client.
19:57Okay.
19:58I'll take that off.
19:59Okay.
20:00I'll do two checks for that.
20:02I think that it'd be really fun if, instead of just a bunk bed, can I draw it?
20:10Um, Mama, let me get you a fresh piece of paint.
20:14Okay.
20:15Oh, I'll put that to the side for a minute.
20:18As far as a budget, I told Brett.
20:20I was like, there's no budget.
20:21This is Hazel.
20:22She just went through a move.
20:23She just got a new sister.
20:25She's been the best.
20:26I was like, we are going to do this room, and we're going to do it right.
20:29This is where the mattress that we're sitting on goes.
20:33What if on the front of this bed, there was a bed fort?
20:37Yeah!
20:38Do you want to pick a pink color?
20:40I have all of these samples.
20:41These are mom-approved.
20:42No.
20:43That one's just plain white.
20:44No.
20:45No.
20:46No.
20:47No.
20:48Yeah, this one.
20:49Oh my goodness.
20:50That one might be too dark, Hayes.
20:51Okay.
20:52Do any of these look pink to you?
20:53Because didn't you want pink?
20:54This kind looks pinkish.
20:55Yeah.
20:56Do this one.
20:57That one's so pretty.
20:58It's like a giant sticker.
20:59Wow.
21:00Here.
21:01We'll stick it up next to those and see how it looks.
21:02That's the biggest stick I've ever seen in my whole entire life.
21:04What do you think?
21:05Good.
21:06So we have, so I'm gonna do this one, this one and this one.
21:19I'm gonna do.
21:20It's gonna be so good.
21:22Let's get back to work.
21:25Matt brought me out here the other day to show me his treasures.
21:31brought me out here the other day to show me his treasures my goal for bringing misha to matt's
21:37lumber yard if you will is to learn a little bit more about her style what she likes what she
21:42doesn't like i also have a little bit of an ulterior motive i need misha to convince matt
21:48that we need enough tile to do the whole shower to be just one type of tile yeah i do like this
21:54reclaimed barn wood a lot i don't think it needs to be all over every wall i have a spot inside
21:58that i'm thinking that we could use one beam okay and that is for the mantle on the fireplace some of
22:06this i would love that but we have to find the perfect piece this one might be good what are
22:11you thinking colorized because i actually love kind of this these tones we could leave it natural i like
22:17that oh my gosh i've got another task for you yeah this tile was in the barn for the shower i wanted to
22:28get your take on it i really like it and actually it's interesting out in the natural light i like
22:32it even more considering that you both like this and you already own quite a bit of this yeah you
22:37don't own enough of this to do all the walls of the shower okay it's pretty expensive i think that i
22:42can find some savings in the floor tile to offset the cost if we were to buy more of this tile but i
22:50need you to convince so all or none okay i can do that let's get inside it's kind of cold out here
23:01i have some samples here that i want to talk about for the fireplace here let's move this out
23:04of the way if we can i think it'd be really gorgeous to use slab here on the fireplace okay
23:10and then also we need to pick slab for your vanity countertop all right what do you think this is super
23:15important to me as you walk in that door this is the first thing you see that's way too dark i think
23:20these are pretty but this looks like something you would use in california i think any of these could
23:24work in a mountain hall yeah and maybe that's something that you know i haven't had a chance
23:30to prove to yet it's just it wouldn't fit with anything else in the house i'm getting to know matt
23:34better but i don't know that i fully nailed down like what he his expectations for this project when we
23:41started working on the exterior i brought in a stone that i really liked and the long-term plan was to
23:45bring that inside and have that be the whole front facade of the interior of that fireplace as well
23:50i haven't seen that it's on the back of your house yeah it's on the back of us oh so here it is
23:56i like the colors i like the feel i like how real it is i love it it's a great material earthy it's got
24:02some of the darker tones what if we use the stone on the fireplace yeah and then for the hearth
24:07we could use the slab to kind of offset some of the more like rustic elements of the stone
24:12and use this as our palette as well like this will be an important part of the design that i
24:16totally love i think we need to go to the slab yard together right because we'll have slab for the
24:20heart and then we want to use it on the countertop and the vanity i love that idea we'll set a shot
24:24clock so that we don't like take forever every free moment i have i'm trying to finish hazel's room
24:33and now it's time to work on what's next and i think it's the walls i hope this works hazel told
24:39me when we were doing the design for her room that she wanted to be able to write on the walls and my
24:44solution is an epoxy that you mix part a and part b together you roll it on the wall it should be a
24:52whiteboard i'm gonna put the second coat on now and here's to writing on the walls
24:56it's getting shinier matt just texted and he got the tile for his shower i feel like a proud mama bird
25:13go misha let the shower building begin
25:19sometimes i need to bring my clients to this lab yard and in this case i mean matt saw samples he
25:24didn't like any of them personally i love going and looking at any sort of building material like
25:30i get really excited it makes it much more real right yeah okay so you need this lab to be you
25:35and misha yeah we haven't worked together for very long right right but just like overall i want to
25:41challenge you to let go a little bit and kind of let me do my thing okay this might be the last thing
25:48that i want your input on is what i'm getting at is jasmine designing this or is matt designing this
25:54right no that's true and it's really hard when we're on a job and a client questions the designer
26:00right i don't mind being questioned but i think that there has to just be that trust and that trust
26:05is not something i can tell you to have or even ask for it has to be earned but i feel like maybe we're
26:13close that's all i'm saying all right we'll get there hi hey hey matt how are you doing how you
26:20doing good to see you so we're gonna look at everything i'm out of guys all right thank you
26:24thank you before we go any further this is your floor this is your tile yep this is the stone
26:32on the exterior of your house right whatever slab we choose yeah i think can tie all these things
26:38together i'm getting overwhelmed i think it's really easy to know that's probably not gonna work
26:45what do you think of this that's not my favorite why i don't know why it just doesn't speak to me
26:53okay what about this one i don't like the colors okay not that one not that one too dark this guy i
27:03think this is a really pretty spot but i i don't think i'd want it in my house whoa okay i mean
27:09there's so much here i actually think this is super pretty i really like this i think it's really pretty
27:15too do you think misha would like it yeah i do think she'd like it i'm a little bit concerned that
27:19there's not a lot of green in your palette that is existing i'm not sure i like it that much with
27:26the shower towel what about this one i want to hear your thoughts with that shower towel that's actually
27:31kind of pretty this feels mountainy to me it does i want your dead honest i love this you're never
27:37gonna get anything but the truth from me i think it's got that lighter clean feel i think misha will
27:42really like i think misha's gonna love this i think she'll love it it's gonna be wonderful
27:45i'm actually super excited now let the shower building begin
27:54the bathroom floor tile is porcelain tile and the nice thing is is this was a less expensive
27:59material so it helps us make up the cost of the shower tile
28:05it's been a long day we got the vanity in the built-in linen is in it's great but uh i spent way
28:12too much time there that's the problem is i got to take care of my clients now it is 11 52 pm
28:19and i'm in the office trying to catch up so it's hard
28:32hi team hey oh my gosh these beams look nice matt is lucky to have you guys seriously he is jeff
28:40jake and deb are all managers at matt's company i need a project manager like jake
28:46now because if we don't have somebody who's paying attention who's got their eye on the
28:51details who's here every single day this project is going to go the way it's always gone it's not
28:55going to go this is serious by the way i see you've got some shims in here yeah these walls are not
29:02perfectly flat we have to level the walls i mean they have to be straight to put this millwork on we
29:08have to fur the walls out we have to add shims and to get this right it's going to take a whole team
29:13so how long have you been working with matt i've been with matt for like seven years now that's a
29:18long time yeah that's a long time matt's awesome takes really good care of us he makes us feel more
29:23of a family this project for matt now that he's like too busy and can't do things it's really stressful
29:30for me to like make sure everything is done perfectly and the way that i think that he is going to want it
29:36hi hello when i get a new project i'm excited to go and find the best person for that job i know
29:49christian is a really skilled metal fabricator and he could do big stuff i think he can help me with
29:54a hat rack for matt and misha's room if we used a strip of metal as the back maybe that is the piece
30:01that goes on the wall okay if we had one hat two hat three hat we make maybe two of them two sets
30:09of three and then probably like a little piece to catch to catch the hat correct so if we just take
30:13the standoffs set them about like that you know what i really like about this whole setup is even
30:19though it's made out of metal and it has that like very industrial feel i think misha would really
30:24like this too because it's not super bulky my next question how long do you think this will take
30:29i have one week the timeline's tight but we can make it work
30:40how's it going oh my goodness i know good turned out awesome huh the beams and the
30:46paint on the walls i wasn't sure if we were gonna get here i'm not gonna lie i know unfortunately we've
30:52kind of crunched ourselves here at the end do you feel like you're being extra picky because it's matt's
30:57house for sure being matt's house and with him and misha their new space like i want it to be perfect
31:04well you guys want to go in and see it oh my god it's actually a lot of pressure and i know they
31:11have really high expectations and you're the one that's actually done the work in here so nicely done
31:17appreciate it
31:17so on most projects i don't use a ton of different materials or colors right i pick like one or two
31:27things and i use them over and over in different ways and that's exactly what i want to do with
31:31this lab so we're going to use it as the countertop for the vanity and then use it again in a different
31:37way for the fireplace hearth this is going to be a great kind of collaboration right misha helped me
31:43pick this mantle the stone is something that is already part of this house and this slab that matt
31:48chose but now we're installing it in a really like modern way the goal was to make this feel
31:54like a mountain home and this fireplace is a really great way to bring in some of that design
31:59new tub misha loves to take baths and she's like i just really want a place where i can relax
32:05you good going backwards i guess so oh my goodness that's beautiful
32:16hazel's been through a lot with this move i mean she's rolled with it truly
32:21she started at a new school she has new friends i think you know this room being her place that is
32:27finished and isn't going to change is really important what do you see come on let's come in
32:39do you love it oh no it almost knocked me over i had this idea i was like i want to do
32:44a loft that is also a bed that also has a little house in it it has a full-size bed up top it has
32:51stairs to the net mom come on i'm coming and a slide i would want this bed whenever i do rooms
32:57for kids i'm like what would i wanted when i was a kid i like the heart hello mama you know what it
33:05says my name okay come on let's go draw on the walls oh look before we do that what do you think did we
33:12get it right does it look the same pretty good huh good as can be okay bye mom i agree as good as can be
33:24you're so silly you're so silly okay here you go and this is a pretty cool feeling right to be able
33:28to create something for somebody that you love and see how it really impacts their life i mean she is
33:34thriving nice flower my favorite thing is my plan
33:49jake looks so good yeah we're moving in furniture we're choosing window treatments
33:55and we're two days out from this project being done you guys have to work quick
33:58oh jake i know let's talk about this fireplace what about the fireplace matt was going for like
34:07a dry stacked stone look yeah what i don't like is that you see these cracks right here there's
34:13some mortar and there's other places where they're like could be but there isn't in my world we would
34:18fill in all these cracks with a little bit of grout he's not down to do that yeah i feel like the
34:23compromise would be that can we chip out where the mortar has come through i want to see nothing
34:30between these stones as though they were like stacked there i'll call the stone guy okay and
34:35then you're fine with us doing that it's ended today because i know you got furniture and lights and
34:41paintings and stuff like that i mean i'm not stoked on it yeah if i gotta tent it we'll we'll tent
34:46it off this is really important we'll clean it up we'll make it look right this is definitely one
34:58of the most i don't know i'd say western projects i've ever done i mean we are in the mountains that's
35:04for sure so we've got a little bit of a cowboy vibe going and it's been challenging right because
35:09matt has lived in this house before he has had a lot more say so i had to make sure that i didn't
35:15forget nisha's design preferences and that i really you know brought in what she would want as well
35:21but i'm a little bit nervous for today i hope they love their house i hope they feel like this
35:27is the perfect place for them to kind of start this next chapter i can't wait to see it it's been so long
35:35since i've been in there hi not yet not yet i'm coming in no no no no no um turn around and take
35:45a few steps away from the door and i'll come out and find you guys turn around and walk away from
35:48the door so excited hi can we turn around yeah yeah you can turn around i just wanted to close the
35:55door i don't remember any surprise i'm so excited hi how are you yeah i can't believe you just walked
36:02in it's cold i like it it is your house so excited yeah okay so it's been seven weeks yeah a hundred
36:09thousand dollars it's been a lot of work to get to this point and i'm ready and nisha's so excited i haven't
36:14seen anything since the very very start i can't even comprehend that's gonna happen well and you
36:19feel like you haven't seen it in a while yeah i mean we got it to that we got it to that point where
36:23everything was kind of about done and then jasmine politely kicked me out so yeah i'm really excited
36:30to see how it's come together as excited as i am along with you i'm also i'm pretty nervous
36:36there were definitely aspects of this that were challenging right and trying to figure out i think
36:41design style you have very different design styles i'm not nervous at all i'm so excited
36:46well you guys want to go in and see it all right come on let's check it out
36:53oh my gosh oh my gosh this doesn't even look like the same room it's not i love this oh my gosh
37:01oh my gosh i love this green stop it's so perfect wow it's amazing and look at the size of that beam
37:13right so good and i had not seen oh my gosh i had not seen this yet oh my gosh you did redid everything
37:21here this looks so good this matches the house this looks awesome the beam i had a party in that
37:28kind of this slab matt chose this it is beautiful so we kind of have like the rustic up here and then
37:36we go into that like more sleek modern hearth and it has great colors in it right that all tie in
37:43this is the other thing i know they say like your primary bedroom's just for sleeping but really
37:47with a space this big it's everything i wanted with like a place i can work in a place i can like
37:51snuggle up here and plan i couldn't love this more you guys matt you've had this wall on your mind
37:58for nine years it adds so much depth it doesn't have this this big blank canvas feel anymore
38:05everything's just perfect how it's all tied together my dad used to help with like paint colors he just
38:10had an eye for color and i remember he would recommend basically this it was just like this cool
38:15gray green and he's like this looks good everywhere and i think the best part of it is it reminds me of
38:19my dad love it it's totally the right thing you guys you did everything right i think matt's used to
38:25being on the other side of this right he's not used to being the client and in his mind i think misha
38:31was the client look at this this is awesome i love this look at that what a great place to put your hat
38:37i love it took him a little while to i think open up but once he realized that this was actually his
38:42moment he was really happy i love it yeah i love it okay good do you want to see the bathroom i
38:50can't wait i'm so excited for the bathroom i haven't seen the finished product all right um go ahead okay
38:56i'm so excited oh my gosh what oh my gosh what is this this is so different
39:09oh my gosh look at that tub this is amazing remember that dark little cave those there yeah teeny little
39:15door the cave this is exactly what you wanted like the the glass going over so we could feature this
39:22beautiful tile good work on getting the tile i know that was a group effort all the way wrapped
39:27around that was so worth it look at this this is so cool look at the sinks oh my gosh so the countertop
39:36the dolomite material that you fell in love with over on the fireplace yes same thing in here on the
39:42apron fronts as well fancy that is fancy that is and that cabinet is so cool that looks like you like
39:51it's interesting when you bring out the person cabinet were you the camera you know it just looks
39:56like what you would like you've always wanted to do these things and it done so right and i'm dying
40:01so bright and clean at the tub yeah that's a huge transformation the shower in here and here wow
40:08the idea behind this whole corner over here is that this is misha's area yes and that it's spa-like
40:14right you can just come over here relax you have a little hand shower that tub is gorgeous i've never
40:20had a nice tub to take a bath in this would be so amazing and it's so simple i love how simple it is
40:27this whole process it's like a beautiful representation of two people starting their
