00:00Human Rights Lawyer, Barrister Jefferson Muaharen has condemned and berated the federal government of Nigeria under the presidency of Bola Ahmed Tanubu, for arresting, detaining and remanding to Kuja Prison, Barrister Aloy Ejimakor, the lawyer to the detained Biafra Republic agitation leader, Mazi Namdi Kano after Aloy Ejimakor was seen joining the Free Namdi Kano protest in Abuja on Monday, according to the Human Rights Lawyer who have remarkable experience.
00:30In fighting against police extrajudicial killing, one notable exception is that a lawyer enjoys less freedom than others to speak publicly about his or her own cases, but not when it involves solidarity marches and protests for his client.
00:44The conducts of lawyers and the limit of their professional duties is the kennel of the alarming accusation by the presidency yesterday against the lawyer of Mr. Namdi Kano and his subsequent arrest by the police for his presence at a scene in Abuja, where protesters were marching peacefully demanding the release of Mr. Kano.
01:02The statement from the presidency and the police action is obviously a culmination of undisguised hostility towards the lawyer for having the temerity to represent a person the government have since prosecuted and convicted in the court of public opinions.
01:17Ordinarily, a lawyer's bail application for alleged crime of illegal protest won't be refused.
01:23The refusal is concerning and turning a simple matter into a political case of vendetta and persecution.
01:30Bayo Onanuga, the special advisor to the president on information and strategy had on Monday tweeted while the Free Namdi Kano protest was ongoing,
01:38that, I spotted a lawyer, among the small group of protesters mobilized in Abuja by Omiyele Sawari, I wonder what Mr. Ejimakor was thinking when he decided to join this shambolic protest.
01:54As a lawyer, he should be aware of the principle of subjudice, particularly in relation to the ongoing treason case before the court.
02:02The prosecution has concluded its case, and it is now incumbent upon Mr. Ejimakor and the other lawyers to mount a strong defense for Kano.
02:11Rather than focusing on preparing a strong case, Mr. Ejimakor has resorted to extra-legal tactics, joining a career anarchist, to influence the process.
02:21Meanwhile, few hours ago, the organizer of the protest and the founder of Sahara Reporters News Media, Omiyele Sawari stated via his social media accounts that,
02:32We have been informed that plans are allegedly in place at Kuja prison to harm Namdi Kano's younger brother, Fineboy and Aloyeji Makor.
02:41His special counsel, inside Kuja prison by special warders assigned by the Asawaju bowler Ahmed Tanubu.
02:48Bayo Onanuga in the tweet demanded a snaction against barrister Aloyeji Makor for joining the protest, calling for the release of his client, Namdi Kano.
02:59Accordingly, Bayo Onanuga said,
03:01I spotted Aloyeji Makor, one of Namdi Kano's lawyers, among the small group of protesters mobilized in Abuja by Omiyele Sawari.
03:10I wonder what Mr. Ejimakor was thinking when he decided to join this shambolic protest.
03:15As a lawyer, he should be aware of the principle of subjudici, particularly in relation to the ongoing treason case before the court.
03:25The prosecution has concluded its case, and it is now incumbent upon Mr. Nigeria Police Force, NPF under the leadership of the Inspector General of Police,
03:35I.G.P. Kayode Egbetokan, who is currently in the United States, U.S., attending the International Association of Chiefs of Police,
03:44IACP annual conference in Denver, Colorado, USA, alongside other senior police officers has warned troublemakers to resist the temptation of hijacking the free Namdi Kano protest slated to hold today across the West Africa country
04:00by the organizers and other group of Nigerians to demand the release of the detained Biafra Republic agitation leader, Mazi Namdi Kano.
04:09Also, the NPF reminded the organizers and the protesters to respect the federal high court order that restricted them from staging the protest in certain areas in Abuja,
04:19such areas which included Aso Rock Villa and its environs, the National Assembly Complex, Force Headquarters, the Court of Appeal, Eagle Square and Shehushigari Way,
04:31while assuring the protesters of protection.
04:33The NPF, in a statement issued and made available by the force spokesperson, Benjamin Hundeyen, indicated that,
04:41the Nigeria Police Force reaffirms its unwavering commitment to upholding the rule of law and maintaining public peace in accordance with constitutional provisions.
04:50This follows the subsisting order of the federal high court, Abuja Division, given on 17 October 2025, by Honorable Justice M. G. Umar,
05:02in suit number FHC, ABJ, CS, 2202-2025, Federal Republic of Nigeria v. Omiyele Sawari and four others.
05:14The order restrains the respondents and any other persons or groups acting under their instruction from staging protests within and around Aso Rock Villa and its environs,
05:24the National Assembly Complex, Force Headquarters, the Court of Appeal, Eagle Square and Shehushigari Way.
05:32In deference to the authority of the court and in line with the constitutional mandate of the police to enforce law and order,
05:38the force hereby calls on all groups, whether in support of or opposed to the ongoing agitation for the release of Mazi Namdi Kano,
05:47to adhere strictly to the provisions of the court order.
05:50The directive remains binding and enforceable pending further judicial proceedings.
05:55The Nigeria Police Force recognizes and respects the rights of citizens to peaceful assembly and expression.
06:01However, such rights must be exercised responsibly and within the limits of the law,
06:07particularly where public safety, national security, and the rights of other citizens are concerned.
06:14The court's intervention is therefore a safeguard, not a suppression, of constitutional freedoms.
06:20Accordingly, all intending protesters and counter-protest groups are strongly advised to avoid restricted areas
06:27and to refrain from any act capable of provoking confrontation or disturbing public order.
06:33The force will ensure the free flow of traffic, protection of lives and property, and security of all law-abiding citizens.
06:41Any person or group that uses protests as cover to incite violence, carry or use offensive weapons,
06:48vandalize public or private property, kidnap, or engage in acts likely to cause loss of life or serious injury
06:55will be dealt with decisively.
06:57Offenders will be arrested, subjected to the police.
07:00Founder of Sahara Reporters News Media and the organizer of the Free Namdi Karno protest,
07:06Omiele Sawari has refuted and debunked the reports circulating in some sections of the media
07:11that the Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has stopped the upcoming Monday, October 20 mass protest
07:18organized to demand the release of the detained Biafra Republic agitation leader,
07:22Mazi Namdi Karno, saying,
07:25The media report is false and a calculated attempt to distract members of the public from coming out to join the protest,
07:32adding,
07:33Namdi Karno is so sick that the people must come out now to set him free.
07:37The sicknesses alleged by Omiele Sawari apparently challenged the medical report issued by the Nigerian Medical Association,
07:45NMA who had submitted its panel report before the trial court on Thursday that Namdi Karno is fit to face trial,
07:53that,
07:54The sickness is not life-threatening,
07:56but,
07:56Punch newspaper reporter at the court on Thursday reported that it was the Department of State Services,
08:02DSS lawyer,
08:03who happened to be one of the parties in the dispute that presented the NMA medical report before the court,
08:09We are yet to ascertain the independency, fairness, objectivity, accuracy and transparency of the Nigerian Medical Association,
08:18NMA in conducting the medical examination.
08:22In a statement on Saturday,
08:24Omiele Sawari said,
08:25The Federal High Court in Abuja has not stopped the proposed free Namdi Karno protest slated for Monday, October 20, 2025.
08:34Contrary to the misleading claims being circulated by police lawyers and sections of the media,
08:40no order was granted restraining citizens from exercising their constitutional right to peaceful assembly.
08:47Justice Umar of the Federal High Court declined to issue any ex-party order sought by the police to halt the nationwide protest altogether.
08:55What exists is a purported,
08:57court order,
08:58obtained in chambers by lawyers of the police,
09:01which has not been served on anyone,
09:03asking that protesters not protest at Aso Rock Villa,
09:07National Assembly,
09:08Eagle Square,
09:09and a certain Shehushigari Way,
09:11the latest false claims designed to confuse the public and discourage participation.
09:16The protest date is sacrosanct.
09:18The movement is unstoppable.
09:20In another statement,
09:22Omiele Sawari said,
09:23I was deeply involved in the struggle for the validation of the June 12th election,
09:28and I remember vividly how the system operated back then,
09:32how they weaponized the judiciary to buy time,
09:35to deceive the public,
09:36and to justify injustice.
09:38They kept saying,
09:40Aviola's case is in court,
09:41using that as a shield for tyranny,
09:43until they eventually killed him a day before his,
09:46supposed,
09:47release.
09:48It was a well-orchestrated tragedy disguised as legal processes.
09:53Today,
09:53I see the same script being replayed with Marzi Namdi Karno,
09:57the same manipulation,
09:59the same excuses,
10:00fake narrators,
10:01fake protesters,
10:03the same abuse of process.
10:05The language has not changed.
10:07Only the victims have.
10:09History is repeating itself before our eyes.
10:12And just as we fought to expose the truth then,
10:15we must do so now,
10:17before it's too late.
10:19The Nandi Karno I saw in court on October 16th is very ill.
10:23We must rescue him before another citizen is sacrificed to the bloodthirsty Nigerian elite club.
10:29Punch Nid.
