00:00The steroids aren't working. I'm going through topical steroid withdrawal. And he was like,
00:04it doesn't exist. I had a bit of a flare rub of my eczema on my face about one and a half years
00:09ago. I then went to the dermatologist. They prescribed me some steroid cream and said,
00:13put it on your face, hydroportisone, once in the morning, once at night. After two weeks,
00:18taper off. So taper it down and start doing it every other day. And then when it gets to the
00:21final week, then, you know, taper even further. Nothing could have prepared her for what would
00:26happen next. As I tapered off, the eczema went all over my body. I went back to the dermatologist
00:30and said, look, maybe I have an allergy to the steroid creams or maybe I have an allergy to
00:34paraffin or something like that. And he was like, no, no, you can't be allergic to them. So just,
00:38you need to persist with it. Like, you know, eczema can be like this. It can spread different
00:42places. You need to now persist and put the umovate all over your body, which is a stronger
00:47steroid cream and persist with the hydroportisone on your face. Obviously my face had flared up back,
00:52but worse. But applying this new steroid made everything so much worse. So obviously at this
00:57point, I'm like, the steroids aren't working. So I went back to him. He said, look, just try it one
01:02more time. Like you need to be really persistent. Like this will go if you just be really persistent
01:07with the steroids. So I went back. Another thing of steroids on again, the same thing happened.
01:12This point, my skin is like so bad. I'm like, can't even hardly wake up in the morning. My skin was
01:18like stuck to the covers. It was absolutely awful. She was in pain and having severe itching over her
01:24entire body. Anything I ate, my face would swell up to. And I was just literally petrified of eating
01:29anything. I was petrified of touching anything. It was really getting like mentally hard to deal
01:33with. I went to my GP and I was like, look, please, can you give me a steroid injection? So I need that
01:38right now. I need a mental break from this. Again, not thinking how my skin had escalated was anything to
01:43do with steroids. The steroid injection would stay in her system for six months, providing a longer
01:49lasting relief from the torment she was experiencing. I had this injection and my skin
01:54didn't get better at all. In fact, it probably got a bit worse. And then I came on TikTok a couple of
01:59weeks ago. The amount of comments, like hundreds of comments saying that I had something called
02:04topical steroid withdrawal. I'd known about this before. And I'd even mentioned this to my
02:09dermatologist. I'd said, look, I just want to make sure that from taking these steroids and putting
02:13these steroids and I'm not going to get TSW. And he was like, it doesn't exist. So obviously I'm
02:18going to trust the doctor. I'm going to think, of course, that maybe it is just scaremongering
02:20online. Medical professionals failed her, but the internet did what doctors couldn't. Fast forward
02:25a year when I put this TikTok on, everyone's like, you have TSW. And I look at these pictures and I'm
02:29like, these people look exactly the same as me. The reason why I'm putting this on here, because I
02:34want to say anyone who is suffering with eczema, anyone who, you know, has bad skin and they're going to
02:39get a dermatologist. I would really advise that before you do that, question why your skin is
02:43flaring up. Is it because you're stressed? Is it because you have an allergy to something? These
02:48like things need to be addressed before the dermatologist looks at you and goes, here's some
02:51steroids. There's not enough data for experts to say how common this is. Most dermatologists
02:56consider it rare, but due to misdiagnosis, it could be more common than we think.
