Steve Bruce shares his thoughts on Blackpool's dramatic late victory over Barnsley.
Transcript
00:00He needed a hero and Jordan Brown was exactly that. He took it really calmly.
00:03He was a good finisher. He was a good finisher, we've seen it.
00:07He doesn't panic, does he? He fell to the right one.
00:11It's a great hold-up play by, I think it's big Ollie, big centre-half.
00:14Holds it off and lays it off to him and sticks it away. Fantastically well.
00:18Obviously, he needed a big moment.
00:20In your experience, is that enough to be a turning point for the season?
00:23I hope so. I've said all along we've got a nucleus of a very decent squad.
00:27When you get off to a bad start, you have to dig deep,
00:31because we understand the way the game is now.
00:34We need to cry for patience and time.
00:37Thankfully, the people above me are terrific to work for,
00:41and that's probably why I'm here in the first place.
00:45I want to create a team that is capable of trying to mount a challenge in this division.
00:50They've certainly given me the tools to do it.
00:52It's up to me and my staff to try and get the best out of it.
00:55Is it about staying level-headed this week?
00:57Obviously, you know the start you've had and how poor it's been.
00:59I would hope my demeanour has probably not changed.
01:03Of course, you beat yourself up.
01:05I think the art of it is not to get carried away when you win,
01:08and don't get too downbeat when you lose,
01:10because you've got to try and keep on the middle ground,
01:15if that's the right way to put it.
01:18Obviously, first off, I think you had less than 30% possession.
01:21They were on top of you.
01:22They were good, but confident team.
01:24They only lost one game in seven.
01:28You could see that.
01:29They used confidence to start with.
01:31It wasn't until we disrupted them a bit in the second half
01:34and raised the energy and levels and tempo to go against them.
01:39They found it a struggle in the second half,
01:41and I thought if any team was going to win,
01:43it was only going to be us.
01:45You're a similar story against Bolton.
01:46We've had a lot of the ball.
01:47Is it about those new players going to do at home?
01:49Look, we play with two strikers and two winners.
01:53We don't pack the midfield,
01:55so it is difficult sometimes to play against teams
01:57who like possession of the ball,
02:00and that's the one thing that we've got to forfeit at times,
02:03that they might have decent possession of the ball,
02:08and if they keep turning them into chances,
02:10I don't think they've created many opportunities,
02:12but we were better defensively,
02:14even though we were a little bit passive in how we get a vote.
02:18Obviously, Fraser was available again,
02:19but you stuck with Michael.
02:20He's played one of his best games since joining the club,
02:22so is that you stuck with him
02:23and that he performed at centre-back?
02:25A difficult horse has played one and a half games.
02:28He's not been really up to speed.
02:30Then, all of a sudden, you put Banks in,
02:32who hasn't been up to speed,
02:33and then you put the white player.
02:34So is the case of who's fit and who's not,
02:40and picking a team.
02:41Thankfully, we picked the right one,
02:42because if I hadn't have done,
02:44you'd have been chomping at me, wouldn't you?
02:46What the hell are you doing, manager?
02:48That's the life of a football manager.
02:50Is Fraser close to playing two games in a week?
02:52Obviously, you've got a full 90,
02:53which is good against Barrow,
02:54but is he close to playing, obviously,
02:56the back-to-back games?
02:57Yeah, of course he is.
02:58Why shouldn't he be?
02:59And the three, obviously,
03:01we've said selection work for you today,
03:03but the three lads you left out last week were saying this week,
03:05was it just a tough selection?
03:07Yeah.
03:08Tough selection.
03:09They'll be involved next week,
03:11I think.
03:12We've got two injuries.
03:13That's what we need,
03:14a decent squad of players.
03:15Does that competition please you
03:17that you can leave out someone like Tom Blocks?
03:19It doesn't please me,
03:20it's the hardest part of management.
03:22And I know what I was like,
03:23I didn't play on a Saturday,
03:24I was one miserable,
03:26I was going to swear there,
03:27but I won't.
03:28I understand that.
03:30You work all week not to play on a Saturday,
03:33and when you don't,
03:34it's harder.
03:35So, them lads mean more to me
03:37than the ones who started,
03:38because they're happy,
03:39they're playing.
03:40Hardest part of management,
03:42or head coach,
03:43is to keep everybody on side,
03:45and it's a very, very hard job.
03:47Having been a player,
03:48do you know how to sort of master that situation?
03:50No, I don't master it, no.
03:51I've been going 25 years,
03:53and it's not easy to have a conversation,
03:55where I understand,
03:56I understand,
03:57they want to rip my head off
03:58and write yourself.
03:59You just finally got a full week for Bradford,
04:01so you're looking forward to
04:02back on the training ground.
04:03Yeah, we'll go to work,
04:04we'll go to work in the week again,
04:06and get ready for Bradford,
04:08who had another one,
04:09we've had a good start.
04:10It'll be a tough game with that lot.
