Opposition gathers at home of former president as incumbent rallies ahead of Argentina's pivotal midterm elections

Supporters of former Argentine President Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner gather outside her Buenos Aires home on Oct. 17, 2025 to mark Peronist Loyalty Day, while President Javier Milei leads a campaign rally in Tres de Febrero, nine days before midterm elections that could reshape the country's political landscape. Half of Argentina's lower Chamber of Deputies—127 seats—and a third of the Senate—24 seats—are up for election. The Peronist opposition currently holds the largest minority in both houses, while Milei's relatively new party, La Libertad Avanza, has only 37 deputies and six senators.
