00:00Welcome back to Hot Rod Garage. I'm Lucky Costa, and next to me is my good friend, Alex Taylor.
00:11Hello.
00:11Hello. How was your flight?
00:13It could have been better, but it could also have been worse, and we're here.
00:17Well, we are here. And where is here, exactly? We're at my shop because we're still in between shops right now.
00:23I thought you were going to say we're in another galaxy, but...
00:25We are actually in another galaxy.
00:28We actually have a galaxy. But yes, we are at your shop with your galaxy.
00:32This is a 1963 Ford Wagon Country sedan. We go way back.
00:37Yeah, like to last season.
00:38Yeah, and then I go way... This thing scarred me when I was like 15 or 17 or, I don't know, way back when I was riding BMX bikes.
00:46Back in the day.
00:47Back in the day.
00:48Black and white TV, guys.
00:49Yeah, and then this is actually how I found black and white TV. What are you trying to say?
00:54I'm just kidding.
00:55Wow.
00:56But this beast behind us, we want to make it into a functional cruiser that we can take to cars and coffee, and then Lucky can actually take out and enjoy it.
01:04Because if you guys remember, last year, we kept hearing the story that Lucky kept telling about this wagon that scarred him from a very young age and made him fall into what he loves now.
01:15Exactly, which is cool cars you would not expect to be performance vehicles, station wagons, pickup trucks, and stuff like that.
01:23But, yeah, it was a cool story.
01:25I saw a car go by, and I was like, is that a station wagon?
01:27Yeah, so...
01:28Yeah, it was.
01:29So we surprised Lucky got him his, not quite dream car, but the car that started it for him.
01:36So we got it, brought it in the shop, and the worst part about it was there was a ton of trash in it, all kinds of...
01:41Got some surfboards.
01:43Surfboards.
01:43There wasn't a lot of go to it, but it had the good bones.
01:46My options were coilover for handling or bagging for cruising, and I chose bagging.
01:50So it's RideTech front to back, four link in the rear, bags in the front.
01:55There's a little budget controller.
01:57It's honestly a couple of faucet knobs that you open and close and make it go up and down right now, and a notch engine tank in the back.
02:02Well, he wanted it to look cool, but last year it definitely didn't have all of the go forward and backwards that it needed.
02:09We got it going up and down with its RideTech suspension.
02:12However, we didn't have the engine and transmission to get it to go the other directions we needed.
02:16We didn't have the equipment to make it up a simple hill.
02:18We didn't. The hill got us before we got the hill.
02:20We had to back out of that deal.
02:21It was rough.
02:22But anyway, so now we have a new engine to swap into it, and we're not going LS swap.
02:28We're going...
02:29We're going full Coyote swap, 5 liter, with a Gearstar 6R80 transmission and a Yanks billet torque converter.
02:36So now we'll have the ability to go forward, backwards, up and down, and drive it to cars and coffee, cruise it, have a good time, and try not to get in trouble, right?
02:43Well, it's still going to smoke.
02:45It's just going to be a different kind of smoke.
02:47Tires, not engines.
02:48Okay, so where do you want to get started?
02:50Well, I think we have a lot of engine and a little space, it looks like.
02:53Eh, we have a lot of space.
02:55A lot of space.
02:57We probably ought to start by taking some measurements, pulling some stuff off, and figuring out how we're going to fit this new engine in.
03:02Right, and by stuff, I believe you mean the entire front clip, which is just going to be maybe six or eight rusty bolts, so probably half out as it is.
03:10And then we'll drain out all the fluids.
03:13The thing will be up on the lift.
03:14We'll start working on getting the motor and transmission out, and we'll measure for this and for this.
03:20You made that sound really simple.
03:23Okay.
03:24Rusty bolt time.
03:25Okay, so I'm not going to lie.
03:29This is pretty exciting for me.
03:30We've been talking about doing this for a long time, and it's happening.
03:35It's happening right now.
03:36All right, once you get something crazy, look at the offset control arm bushing.
03:41Uh-huh.
03:42See how it's like a little crank shaft?
03:43Yeah.
03:44You loosen this and crank it, and that adjusts the caster.
03:48Oh.
03:48Is that weird?
03:49It's pretty interesting.
03:50Yeah.
03:50I do see that the course board is only being held on by one bolt in the middle.
03:54Like, that's like a tri-five.
03:56Along with the bumper brackets, that one bolt, the two lower fender bolts, and the hood hinges actually hold the top of the fender on.
04:05Huh.
04:05I think if we take those things out, we could potentially just muscle this whole front clip out of the way.
04:16So here's your standard bumper bolt.
04:18You've usually got four or six or eight of these holding the front bumper on any rusty bucket that you've got.
04:23However, if you have a high-tech, technology-packed, galaxy-flying bucket like this, you have a cam-eccentric header bolt.
04:35That's crazy.
04:36So the bolt is built off-center, and there's a little pond right there, a little cam.
04:42When you put it in there and tighten it all up, it lifts and lowers the bumper.
04:46However, I'm not losing these.
04:49They're going back in.
04:51Let's take this bumper off.
04:54So we lift it and push it back like that right there.
04:57Now, my bolt just fell out.
04:59Okay.
05:00Here, hold this side now.
05:01I got this side.
05:02You got it?
05:03Yeah, girl.
05:04Oh, girl.
05:05You hear that sound?
05:08Yeah.
05:09Sound of freedom.
05:10Coming down.
05:13This side's really light.
05:14Oh, wait.
05:15There's a Mark King.
05:16Yeah, a Mark King.
05:17We're going to go back that way.
05:35Of course we are.
05:36Okay, hold on.
05:37We're going to go this way over here.
05:39Now, go back over there.
05:41You suck.
05:42You're gone.
05:43Watch out.
05:44Hold on.
05:46Now, we're going to go that way over there.
05:49All right.
05:49Stop.
05:50Turn it down.
05:51Yeah.
06:12Thanks for the Lord.
06:19Jack can come out maybe now.
06:28Okay, Alex Taylor, I believe this is excessive for an oil change.
06:31Are you sure this is how we do it?
06:33Well, it's absolutely not.
06:35You remember that conversation where I said, hey, do you want to drain the transmission?
06:38And you said, no.
06:39Oh, no, if we do it right with a plug and we put it in the end of the transmission, we
06:43won't make a leak.
06:45My bad.
06:46There's another hole there.
06:47Yeah.
06:47So, out with the old.
06:50This thing is used up.
06:52Not even just old.
06:54It's old and broken.
06:56So, don't know what's actually wrong internally, but it had no power.
07:01Seemed like it was a couple cylinders down last time.
07:03So, we can't get much worse, but we can get it quite a bit better.
07:08Yes.
07:08I actually think it's better right now.
07:10You're right.
07:10It is.
07:11It is.
07:12So, we're going to clean up this engine bay, and then we get to put in the new, or start
07:16to put in, start to fit the new engine.
07:20It's pretty good.
07:21Is that pretty good?
07:22We're done here.
07:23All right.
07:23Cool.
07:24Cool.
07:24Cool.
07:24Cool.
07:24Cool.
07:25Cool.
07:25Cool.
07:25Cool.
07:26Cool.
07:26Cool.
07:26Cool.
07:26Cool.
07:26Cool.
07:27Cool.
07:27Cool.
07:27Cool.
07:28Cool.
07:29Cool.
07:30Cool.
07:31Cool.
07:32Cool.
07:33Cool.
07:34Cool.
07:35Cool.
07:36Cool.
07:37Cool.
07:41Cool.
07:43Cool.
07:43Cool.
07:44Cool.
07:44Cool.
07:44Cool.
07:45Cool.
07:46Cool.
07:46Cool.
07:50Come on.
07:53Cool.
07:53Ooh, nice.
07:54Can I pat that down?
07:55Ooh, you may.
07:57However, it is a coyote.
07:58You should be careful.
08:00Woo!
08:02Really good at that.
08:04Yeah, I don't know if that's a good skill to have.
08:05I don't either.
08:06Anyways, so new engine, Coyote engine.
08:09Correct.
08:102015, so second gen, good motor.
08:13Only weak link is the oil pump, which we have the new billet cool one.
08:18Rad.
08:19Okay.
08:19Yeah, and 44,000 miles, so a low mileage motor.
08:22Okay.
08:23Plug and play, everything from Ford, including the gas pedal, wiring, harness, cold air intake,
08:28MAP sensor, mass airflow, everything, all included.
08:31Nice.
08:31Very cost effective, too.
08:33Okay, so.
08:34However, now, Mustangs are a rear sump motor, so the sump would be the deepest part of
08:39the oil pan where the oil pickup is.
08:40It's in the rear because the Mustangs, newer Mustangs, have rack and pinion in the front.
08:46In 1963, back in the day, they did rear steer with a steering gearbox right by the firewall.
08:52Luckily, Moroso makes an aftermarket oil pan with the sump in the front for the steering
08:58in the rear.
08:59Yes.
09:00Guess what we have?
09:01New in the box.
09:02Oil pan.
09:02Front sump, oil pan, yeah.
09:04Yeah.
09:04So we're going to swap that out, and then we're going to fit some universal motor mounts
09:09and set this thing in there.
09:10Yeah, I'm proud of you.
09:11You did some homework.
09:13I did do some.
09:14You are ruining me.
09:15You are ruining me, and I'm unhappy about it.
09:18All right, ready to do some stuff?
09:20Yes.
09:20All right.
09:21All right.
09:21We're waiting for a couple of parts, specifically a special pickup.
09:37So we're just going to set this on right now so we can progress and start making this mounts.
09:43I'm not torquing this down.
09:46I'm not torquing this down.
09:48It's a half a hug.
09:52Okay.
09:53Okay.
09:54Down, Willis.
09:58Okay.
09:59Hang on.
09:59Yeah, that's the tight fit.
10:03So we set the coyote motor in and just got it kind of close.
10:07I knew we were going to be trimming the top of the upper control arm perches and a little
10:12bit more clearance in the back right there.
10:13Give me just a little bit of an air gap between the upper control arm perches and the headers,
10:17and then set it back in again and see how it goes.
10:28Let me look.
10:29Yeah, just a little bit too far back.
10:39That is a lot closer.
10:42Okay, so after doing a little bit of trimming, some grinding, a little burning, the coyote motor
10:47is actually levitating.
10:50It's float-ay.
10:51It's the coyote float-ay.
10:54We have it pretty much set in place.
10:56It looks pretty good.
10:57That means we are making good progress.
11:01Yeah.
11:01This is more than we expected to get done today.
11:04Yeah.
11:04Do you want to let that go?
11:07This is a false sense of security right now.
11:09Yeah.
11:11It's okay.
11:11The headers will catch it on the way down.
11:12We're going full floaty mode.
11:14Ooh.
11:14And this is not even doing anything.
11:17It's just there for looks.
11:19Float-ay.
11:20So with the coyote doing the floaty, that just never gets old in my opinion.
11:24I like it.
11:25I do.
11:25All right.
11:26We're going to get those motor mounts fabbed up.
11:28It's a really sweet little universal kit.
11:30Very nice.
11:31And then we're going to take the motor and the transmission bolted together and get a
11:35running start at installing it directly into the floor.
11:38We're going to be a little more careful than that.
11:39All right.
11:41It's finally time for motor mounts.
11:43I'm saying finally because we've done a lot of measuring.
11:45But again, the prep cork is the hardest part, most time consuming.
11:49So as far as motor mounts go, this is actually a universal kit that's specific for the engine,
11:54but universal to the car.
11:56So Paul Horton's Weld Together Series.
11:58The mount is actually already on the block and in the car.
12:03So we've been using that to kind of get an idea of how we're going to place it and an
12:06idea of where our mounts go.
12:08These tabs here is the part that's universal.
12:11So what we've decided to do is we're going to take a plate and weld it to the frame as
12:16an extra set of reinforcement or an extra step to reinforcing it.
12:21And then we're going to weld these to that and they'll bolt up.
12:24So you'll see how that'll work.
12:25But something cool about this kit is they actually provide a laser cut cardboard.
12:31So that way you've got these already in a pattern.
12:35You don't have to cut them out.
12:36Nice little pop out pieces here.
12:38So we are going to use these to get an idea of how we want to trim them to fit the frame.
12:45And then once we get that, we'll go ahead and cut these out, cut our other piece of metal,
12:49weld it together, pack it in the car, yank the motor back out, weld it in finally,
12:54and then the engine will be done.
12:56Pretty simple, right?
12:57Okay.
12:58So Alex has done the measurements.
13:00She marked everything.
13:01She wrote it in very simple letters.
13:04However, all caps.
13:06Seems a little rude to me.
13:08Either way, I'm going to cut them up.
13:09Ow, ow, ow.
13:21Wow, look at that.
13:24It's like somebody knew what they were doing.
13:26The engine's going in.
13:47Not for the final time.
13:49I'm pretty sure this is not the way it goes.
13:51Well, it's not there yet.
13:54All right.
13:54Not for the final time, for another trial fit time.
13:59Hang on.
14:01And over here.
14:02Okay, motor's in, motor mounts, everything lines up, bolted right up.
14:14Life is good.
14:15Yeah, it did go in.
14:16It really wasn't bad.
14:18And it actually is sitting with our calibrated locks sitting at the angle that we would like.
14:24Exactly.
14:24Three degrees.
14:25And now we have to mark where it's going to be cut.
14:29To do our incision.
14:30Yeah, because the reason that it has to be cut is the transmission tunnel in this is not at all big enough for the transmission that's going in.
14:40This car came with a slush box three speed.
14:43Yeah, little guy.
14:44Yeah.
14:45This is?
14:45This is a 6R80.
14:48It does have a billet converter, yanks converter in it.
14:51Six speed automatic transmission.
14:52Six speed automatic, exactly.
14:53Non-manual.
14:54The transmission is 27 inches long.
14:56There is four inches between the engine and the firewall.
15:00And then from the firewall to the seat, there's 26 inches.
15:04So that's 30.
15:05We only need 26, 27 for this.
15:08So basically, long story short, we're not going to take the seat out right now.
15:12We're just going to cut a hole.
15:13That'll get us an idea.
15:14The downside is the only good metal inside this car with no rust is the tunnel that we're getting ready to cut out of it.
15:22That sucks.
15:24All right.
15:28See what I did there?
15:30You made a hole.
15:31Uh-huh.
15:31I believe that's about the minimal amount I'll have to cut out.
15:35I'm going to be lightening it up a little bit more.
15:38I kind of want to see.
15:40I want to see if you put it in tomorrow.
15:42Like, we'll put it in.
15:43Right.
15:44Just to set its toupee back on it.
15:46Just to see if we even need to cut it out at all.
15:49It'd be kind of funny.
15:50All right.
15:51For who?
15:52Me.
15:54Okay.
15:54Well, that's important.
15:55So, we have a few parts to throw at it.
15:58We have a...
15:58That is correct.
15:59Engine spacer.
16:00Transmission spacer.
16:01Uh-huh.
16:01Uh, flex plate.
16:02Yep.
16:03Starter motor, because might as well put it in now.
16:05I don't think we'll be able to get to it later.
16:06Safe space.
16:07Yeah.
16:07Time.
16:07And a couple of other small parts we can put the accessory drive back on.
16:11That sounds like fun.
16:12And then...
16:12That's a good timer.
16:13I don't care.
16:14I don't care who you are.
16:15And then we'll put the transmission on it, and we'll stuff this thing in.
16:17That actually sounds pretty simple.
16:19Party.
16:34All right.
16:35So, flex plate is on like you just torqued it down.
16:37These are torque-to-yield bolts.
16:39So, instead of just getting a foot-pound number, an inch-pound,
16:41or a number that's just specific into the point,
16:44means that you go to a foot-pound, and then go to degrees after that.
16:47So, the theory is you're stretching that bolt.
16:50So, put simply, goes to the foot-pound of 25 foot-pounds,
16:54and then he has a really nice digital torque wrench,
16:56which also reads degrees, went to 60 degrees after that.
16:59Which is 81 foot-pounds.
17:02Yeah.
17:02And if you Google, it says 70 to 80, but we made sure we did it the right way.
17:06Exactly how forward built it to go.
17:08Okay.
17:09Is it time?
17:11Four.
17:14A ceremony?
17:16I'm going to lightly let it down.
17:18Oh, okay.
17:19Ready?
17:19Stop.
17:21You're down just about a little bit.
17:23Half a smidge.
17:25A little more.
17:28Get it.
17:29That was it.
17:32Watch your hooves.
17:44I'm watching.
17:45God, don't hit those motor mounts.
17:48Drop it.
17:49Let it down easy.
17:52A little more.
17:53I think, yeah, a little bit more.
18:01Okay.
18:01Oh, something's hitting somewhere.
18:03I just heard it.
18:04I don't think I cut high enough on the firewall.
18:06Whoa.
18:15Whoa.
18:16Calm down.
18:17Sit me down now.
18:18Sit me down.
18:23Okay.
18:23This is ready to drop in over here.
18:25Up in the back?
18:28You mean like that?
18:32Did it just go in?
18:33Yes, it did.
18:35That's a weird sound.
18:37Okay, so the motor is in.
18:38Is the motor in?
18:39It is.
18:39Well, my side's in.
18:41Motor mounts are hooked up.
18:42Well, most motor mounts are in the right place.
18:43Her bolt went right in.
18:45This side is resting safe.
18:49And then we have no transmission crossmember.
18:51However, we do have a marquee.
18:52Do we not?
18:53Okay, so with Mark securing the transmission on the inside.
18:56Can you check again, Mark?
18:58Yeah, it seems pretty secure.
18:59Hold on.
19:00We're going to let the motor down.
19:02Should get much heavier.
19:04Get this out of the way.
19:04Put the car up.
19:06Without Mark.
19:07With Mark in it.
19:08Oh, we're going to leave it?
19:08Yeah, yeah, yeah.
19:08And then we'll do a quick little temporary trans mount to hold it in place.
19:13That makes perfect sense, right?
19:14Total.
19:16Motor's in.
19:17Yes, it is.
19:18How cool is that?
19:19Pretty rad, considering it actually fits, since the Coyote is so wide.
19:24FYI, it's using up all the engine bay.
19:26All, every bit of it.
19:28Yep, yep.
19:29Transmission is actually secured in the vehicle with a crossmember.
19:31Ready to go.
19:32Of custom fabrication, I might add.
19:34Yes, very nice.
19:34Very nice piece.
19:35Yeah, yeah.
19:36So, engine transmission, that's two of the really big components in.
19:39However, we have some other stuff to connect to make all of that work.
19:42Yes, we have to plug up some holes.
19:44For example, it won't hold any coolant.
19:45That is a fact.
19:46There's not a single hose on the thing, and there's no cooling system.
19:49It won't hold any gas.
19:50Do you know why?
19:51Because there's no fuel system.
19:52There's not a single hose on it, and there's no gas tank.
19:54You guys remember that one time we put a boat tank in the back?
19:57Remember that time?
19:58It's still back there, as a matter of fact.
19:59Yeah.
19:59It won't hold any transmission flow.
20:01Do you know why?
20:02There are no lines.
20:03There's no cooler, and it's just a transmission.
20:04So, basically, we've installed two things, and we have approximately 15 left.
20:10Mm-hmm.
20:10Yeah.
20:10Kind of hurts when you say it like that.
20:12There's a minor interference with the driveshaft.
20:15Yeah.
20:16Looks like it goes through, like, the middle of the seat.
20:18Yeah, so while Lucky puts in a fuel system, and he has some tricks he wants to do there,
20:23I'm going to take more stuff off, so that way we can take seats out and then cut the floor up.
20:28So, you assemble, I'll disassemble, then we'll get ready to totally reassemble everything.
20:33You're going to cut stuff up?
20:34Oh, I'm going to cut stuff up.
20:35Helps to 60-foot time.
20:36Yeah.
20:37Fire, gas, it all goes together.
20:39Yeah.
20:39Well, right, well, of course.
20:41Woo!
20:42Too much?
20:43Too much.
20:44Oh, wait.
20:46Oh, no.
20:47We have to hook it up with electricity.
20:48I don't know.
20:49It's working.
20:49Ready?
20:49Yeah.
20:50Woo!
20:54Okay, so there are a couple of things going on in the back of this wagon.
20:57One of them is tetanus, so I've got a little blanket.
20:59The other thing is a hidden stash spot where we're going to be stashing that gas tank.
21:04That's a universal sort of Mustang gas tank.
21:06It's floor-mounted style.
21:08I want to keep it inside.
21:10Yes, sir-ee-bob.
21:23What occurred to me just now is you can spend some time trying to save a little bit of metal
21:30or you can just go ahead and cut it out.
21:33So, guess what I'm going to do right now?
21:37Cut it out.
21:43So, the final product on this is going to be a piece of one-inch square tube welded together
21:49in a square.
21:50All the way around, welded to the floor, sealed, and then this will sit right on it with some
21:54nuts there to hold it in place.
21:56But for now, let's just make sure it all fits.
22:01All right.
22:03I don't care who you are.
22:06I feel pretty good about that.
22:06All right.
22:10So, we have no front seat now.
22:12We're going to have to do a little modification because I did have to cut one of the studs.
22:16Maybe I didn't have to, but I did.
22:18And so, the seat, we'll have to work on getting it back in.
22:21We do have floor pans now from the last time that I was in this car.
22:25Well, floor pans.
22:27It looks like floor pans.
22:28But you can see that the transmission has clearly decided it wants to ride in the car
22:32with us.
22:33So, right here is where a drive shaft will mount in the front.
22:38Front yoke.
22:39And you can see that that is right in line with this transmission tunnel.
22:42Therefore, that is why we have to cut the tunnel.
22:45I'm going to go right in front of the front seat with a cut and see if we can save the rest
22:50of it.
22:50And if not, we'll take the back seat out and cut some more.
22:53But for now, I'm going to move this stuff out of the way.
22:58And get ready to make a very surgical incision.
23:10All right.
23:10So, there's yet another hole in our already very holy floor.
23:14So, right now, it's just a very rough cut.
23:17And it's nothing crazy.
23:18Eventually, when Lucky replaces these floors and actually, you know, does a nice job on
23:23the interior, he's going to build a really nice tunnel.
23:25For now, we're going to do something where we'll grind this down, get it nice, flat,
23:29smooth, and straight.
23:30And then, once we figure out how much tunnel we need to have with our drive shaft, just
23:35build, like, something very simple to cover it up.
23:37Because this is temporary in the long term of this project.
23:41But, for now, we have a hole.
23:43Get our drive shaft back very soon.
23:45They measured for it today.
23:46And then, we'll get it in the car and be one step closer to having everything connected.
23:53Okay.
23:54So, our guys at DriveLength Inc. came in yesterday, measured for the drive shaft, compensated for
24:01ride height, matched the yokes, and built a slip collar for it, and delivered it back
24:07today.
24:08So, the drive shaft is going in.
24:11And, of course, they supplied all new U-joints and hardware.
24:14So, that's cool.
24:15So, this is my quick and dirty universal transmount to Coyote Swap 63 Galaxy station wagon.
24:38The deal is, I've made these sort of telescopic.
24:41So, this will fit in the middle.
24:42You're going to see in just a second.
24:43I'm going to cut one side over about two inches and go down.
24:47Drill a hole through there.
24:48Drill a hole through there.
24:49If I need to remove it, I can just simply take out a bolt.
24:52It's telescopic.
24:53It will slide and drop right out while these two pieces are getting welded in permanently.
24:56So, while Lucky works on the actual crossmember part for the transmission, I'm working on
25:04the mount that's going to bolt onto the back of the transmission.
25:07So, this is not what the pattern is going to look like.
25:09It's just a start.
25:10So, basically, it'll bolt to the back with three pieces, and then there'll be a piece
25:14that folds under, like this, where a GM-style transmission mount will bolt to, and it'll
25:19bolt on top of Lucky's crossmember.
25:21So, I'm just working on this piece, going to get a pattern, then I'll cut it out of
25:25this plate, lull it together, and then about that time, Lucky should have the crossmember
25:29ready.
25:34Okay.
25:34I think that looks pretty good.
25:35I think we did a fine job.
25:36That is a work of art right there.
25:40I don't know if I'd go that far, but it looks decent.
25:43That's right.
25:44Okay.
25:44Okay.
25:44All right.
25:45So, that means everything under here is, well, most of the stuff under here is buttoned
25:49up.
25:50Yeah.
25:50Uh-huh.
25:51So, the motor is attached to the car.
25:53It is.
25:53No fear involved.
25:54Correct.
25:55Transmission is levitating via a mount.
25:57Ah.
25:58Nice.
25:58Driveshaft is installed.
25:59Correct.
26:00Attached to the rear differential.
26:01Mm-hmm.
26:01I think we're pretty done underneath there.
26:03The floor is a story of its own.
26:05I don't think that's going to be fixed this time, though.
26:08It's very yabba-dabba-doo.
26:09It is.
26:09So, with that said, we are getting pretty close to dropping it down, putting some fluids
26:16in it, and seeing this coyote howl.
26:19Put the beak on it.
26:20Maybe throw some fluids at it, like you said.
26:22Mm-hmm.
26:22A little bit of wiring.
26:23Right.
26:23Some voltage.
26:24Yep.
26:25Sorry, neighbors.
26:26It's fire-up time.
26:28Almost.
26:29Very close.
26:30Very close.
26:30Okay.
26:30Bye-bye.
26:31Bye.
26:31Bye.
26:31Bye.
26:32Bye.
26:32Bye.
26:32Bye.
26:32Bye.
26:32Bye.
26:32Bye.
26:34Bye.
26:34Bye.
26:34Bye.
26:34Bye.
26:34Bye.
26:34Bye.
26:34Bye.
26:36Bye.
26:36Bye.
26:39Bye.
26:41Okay.
26:42So, it's on the ground.
26:43It is.
26:44It's standing on its own four feet right now.
26:46It is.
26:47Okay.
26:47So, we have a couple things still to add to the front.
26:49Yes, we do.
26:49As you can see, there is no beak.
26:51That part is important.
26:52Right.
26:53So, we have to put the beak on.
26:54With the beak, we can then install the cooling system, the radiator.
26:57Correct.
26:57Start fitting the hoses.
26:58Correct.
26:59Fuel line.
26:59We need to put a regulator over there, a fuel pressure regulator.
27:01We happen to have one from the Nova.
27:03Leftover from the Nova with a lovely gauge.
27:05Yes.
27:05Yes.
27:05Just the way I like them.
27:07Battery cable.
27:07It seems like a lot of work for a spot to put a battery, but it's
27:09since there is a spot to put a battery.
27:11Actually, there's barely a spot to put a battery in.
27:13Barely.
27:14Yeah.
27:14We'll put the battery in, build a battery cable, run some voltage inside the car.
27:18I think we're getting really close.
27:19Yep.
27:20Transcooler, and we're almost there.
27:21That crow even agrees with us.
27:22Yeah.
27:22He says, get the beak on.
27:25Exactly.
27:25Get the beak on.
27:26Yeah.
27:26All right.
27:27Here.
27:29Careful with that, Alex.
27:31Careful.
27:32Easy.
27:33Careful now.
27:35You know what?
27:36I think it's worth more now.
27:38Oh, yeah.
27:39More patina.
27:40You're right.
27:41Okay.
27:41So I took it forward, and I was putting my hand here in, like, the middle of the wheel.
27:44I got you.
27:45I got one of those cars with the removal of one of these.
27:48Oh, you've been down that.
27:48You've been down the bed before?
27:50Ready?
27:51I go over the tire.
27:52Okay.
27:52Okay.
27:52Okay.
27:52I go over the tire.
28:01There it is.
28:03That was it.
28:04The beak is on?
28:05Beak is on.
28:06We kind of have a holding place for battery, radiator, everything like that.
28:10But it looks really good.
28:11Right.
28:12You want to grab the radiator and set it right there between that little bracket, and I'll
28:15grab the battery and set it over there.
28:17And then we'll start figuring out where it hoses and cables.
28:20Okay.
28:20Oh, my.
28:21Hoses and cables and something.
28:23Oh, my.
28:29This is very sharp.
28:32Right in that little...
28:34Like it was built for it.
28:37Okay.
28:38Yeah.
28:38That kind of works.
28:38So, now that the motor's in the wagon, I'm using Castrol Edge Full Synthetic to maximize
28:43the performance of this high-output engine.
28:45I'm trying to get every ounce of power out of this thing as I can.
28:52August.
28:53Napa Valley.
28:54Before the rains.
28:58Castrol Edge will keep this thing going 20,000 miles between oil changes.
29:02Lasts twice as long as a leading full synthetic, and it's three times stronger.
29:06See you in 20,000 miles.
29:12All right.
29:12So, since this is Lucky's personal car now at this point, he has the benefit of having
29:17it in his shop.
29:18And with that, we also benefit because he's doing some work in the evenings since he gets
29:22to be around it a little bit more.
29:23One of those things that he did the other night while we were away was run new fuel lines.
29:28So, these are from the back, tied up nicely to the frame, all the way to the front.
29:32All it needs up there is a regulator mounted and a couple more lines connected.
29:36I'm going to go ahead and put the fittings on here and connect them to the tank.
29:40If you look, you can see that the tank isn't actually mounted yet.
29:44It will be before we take it out and drive it.
29:46Lucky's got a frame that he wants to build out of one-inch tubing that's going to elevate
29:49the tank just a little, secure it down, and then allow him to have something that he can
29:54build some patch panels to.
29:55So, I'm going to get this done.
29:57We're just trying to get it running for right now, and then he'll have a couple more nights
30:02with it that he's going to spend, and it'll have it in pretty good shape by then.
30:06Okay, motor transmission and fuel system is actually in the line to run.
30:30The fuel pressure regulator is hooked up.
30:32All the wiring is pulled over to the driver's side, right at the ignition switch.
30:36I've got a little harness right here.
30:38It's all part of that Ford Performance Kit.
30:40I apply voltage to the green wire, and you can hear the fuel pump actually come on.
30:46Ready to start up.
30:48I'm going to run a couple small wires down to the starter motor as soon as we do that.
30:52This thing is making noise.
30:53I'm ready.
30:59Okay, I think I got everything done inside the car.
31:02How are you doing out there?
31:03Well, it's done-ish.
31:05Is that a stealth cold air intake right there?
31:07Well, it's something.
31:08You can hardly even see it.
31:09So, you guys know the deal.
31:11This is Lucky's car.
31:13The only thing we had to get to today was getting it started.
31:17And then you got a lot of work ahead of you.
31:19Yeah, you know what?
31:20I'm fine with that, though.
31:20It'll be good.
31:21That way you can take your time and do stuff the way you want it.
31:24Right.
31:24Yeah.
31:25It's not going to look nothing like this.
31:26Yeah.
31:26So, the thing is, stuff is kind of just plugged, semi-plugged.
31:30It's going to get it started.
31:31We're going to get an idea of how the kai-oo-ee, right?
31:34Kai-oo-ee sounds.
31:34No, you're pronouncing it all wrong.
31:36It's kai-oo-ee.
31:37That.
31:39We're going to get an idea of how it sounds.
31:40And then this is one of those that, since it is a personal project,
31:44Lucky has a couple ideas on stuff that he would like done.
31:47Right.
31:48And so he's going to have a couple days to do that.
31:50A couple days?
31:50Sweet.
31:51So, starter?
31:53Yeah.
31:53Let's crank it over and get some gas circulating through it.
31:57We already checked for leaks.
31:58That's good.
31:58Check for leaks.
31:59Plus, I put the cover on so it's leaking.
32:01We're not going to see it.
32:03All right.
32:04Okay.
32:04I have my power probe down here,
32:05and I'm able to apply voltage to the starter motor via the green wire that I ran.
32:10Please do that, sir.
32:11Eon.
32:13I'm waiting for that howl.
32:14You hear the fuel pump?
32:15Yeah.
32:15I heard it.
32:16Uh-huh.
32:16Technically, that's pretty cool.
32:27We're going to make it do more, though, but I'm just saying, that's pretty neat.
32:30If I catch on fire, put me out.
32:34Oh, really?
32:34No promises?
32:35Hang on.
32:41Hang on.
32:42You see fire?
32:43No.
32:44Go ahead.
32:50Ben is not howling yet.
32:52You know?
33:09Sounds like half them cylinders aren't hidden.
33:11You know, it's, uh, it's growling.
33:15It's not howling, but it is growling.
33:17Okay, so that wasn't super amazing, but it was still amazing.
33:20We put it in, we turned the key, it started up.
33:23What key?
33:25Well, I twisted the wires together.
33:26Then I hit the starter with the test light.
33:28We were in different rooms.
33:29It's the same thing.
33:30I was in this room, you were out here.
33:32Exactly.
33:32I heard some stuff I don't know that you heard.
33:34You step on the gas pedal, the throttle body moves, the battery is still charged, fuel pump is fueling.
33:41Right.
33:42Fire it up.
33:42I have full confidence that the Coyote is going to be amazing when it's done.
33:47Is it amazing at this moment?
33:48Yeah.
33:49Meh.
33:49Is that a cat?
33:51Meh.
33:51Because this is a Coyote.
33:53It's a wounded Coyote.
33:57Now it's a monkey.
33:58Great.
34:00Anyways, so, um, next time you guys see this, it's going to be running, driving, with a transmission tunnel, a seat in it.
34:08I don't know if it'll have a hood on it.
34:09That's not so lucky, because I'm going to have to leave you.
34:11It's going to be hopped up and slammed down.
34:13You heard it here first, so stay tuned, because we got driving, cars and coffee, and some ruckus to cause.
34:19Right.
34:19Uh, cars and coffee where the donut place is?
34:21Yes.
34:22Color me in.
34:22Okay.
34:23Have fun.
34:24Okay, bye-bye.
34:24Good luck.
34:25Red eye?
34:26Red eye.
34:26Okay, bye-bye.
34:27Okay, so while I was supposed to be running fuel lines and doing some wiring and, I don't know, stuff with the Coyote and the Gearstar transmission,
34:38RideTech hooked me up with an amazing hookup.
34:41It's the full AirPod air ride control.
34:44We had done the RideTech four-linked version in the back and bagged this thing all the way around.
34:49I had these old antiquated, like, look like volume knobs or faucet knobs that make it go up and down.
34:54But now, it's a whole new game, people.
34:57I'm just going to say right now, we are cruising.
35:23I'm good to go.
35:24What a lovely day to go for a Tesla.
35:42Man, this is a wonderful day.
35:44We did put in a fair amount of work on this vehicle.
35:49It got clean.
35:50The only thing I don't think we did was oil the windshield wipers.
35:53You're correct.
35:55I think the last time we were with the car together, it wasn't quite running.
35:59You're correct.
36:00It was running adjacent, close to running.
36:03It was a Hurt Coyote.
36:04Yeah.
36:05So, since then, we've done the complete Ford Performance wiring harness engine management
36:09and a Ford Performance wiring harness for the engine, the actual engine harness.
36:13That was the culprit last time, was the engine harness.
36:18Who would have figured there's a specific engine harness?
36:21So, the wonderful tech tip there, do your research.
36:25Noted.
36:26Okay.
36:26No, I mean, there was a lot.
36:28I mean, when I left, there was pieces over here and over there, and it had that, oh, ooh,
36:32ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh.
36:33What was that?
36:33That's a Hurt Coyote.
36:35That was a Hurt Coyote.
36:36Like, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh.
36:37Yeah.
36:37Okay, yeah, I got you.
36:38Yeah.
36:38So, nice work.
36:39It's got a transmission tunnel now.
36:41It does have a trans tunnel.
36:42In addition to the trans tunnel, I cut the whole driveshaft tunnel out.
36:46You can tell all the way to the back.
36:47Oh, yeah.
36:48And put a tunnel.
36:49Actually, I cut all that out before.
36:50We had to do that just to get the stuff in.
36:52Yeah.
36:52But, yeah, I bent up some metal.
36:55I literally took a piece of steel and wrapped it around a welding tank.
36:59If somebody would have driven by and seen me pounding on the side of a welding tank with
37:02a rubber mount.
37:03That would be questionable.
37:03Yeah.
37:04You know, the thing is, I thought we would do, like, a nice test drive before, but, I
37:09mean, we're just going at it.
37:11Rain and all.
37:12Right, right, right.
37:12We're doing all weather.
37:13Yeah.
37:14No local.
37:14We're not keeping this local.
37:15Yeah.
37:15We're going way down south.
37:19All the way to Cars and Coffee.
37:21I heard it's a super car, Cars and Coffee.
37:23Well, clearly.
37:24I mean, I think this is a super car.
37:26Yeah.
37:26Yeah.
37:27I can say, this has gone a long way from when it first rolled in the shop last time, last
37:32year.
37:32And I rolled, barely rolled.
37:35I mean, like.
37:35They had, like, three flats.
37:37Yes.
37:37And they were, like, 18s, 19s, and 22s.
37:41Yeah.
37:41And had not enough power to make it up a hill.
37:44Correct.
37:44Yeah.
37:45And then, yeah, exactly.
37:47We didn't have the equipment to make it up a hill.
37:50Yeah.
37:50And then, I think, uh, it was smoking quite a bit.
37:53So, I took the valve seals off that motor, put new valve seals on it, and it actually
38:00smoked more.
38:01I don't know what that was all about.
38:05Oh, diamond.
38:06We can get a diamond in the carpool.
38:07Oh, yeah.
38:09I mean, we are very.
38:10It's nicer over here.
38:11I like it.
38:11It's like we have status.
38:14We're elite right now.
38:15What a smooth cruiser.
38:20Yes, it is.
38:21I can ruin that.
38:22It's just a push of a button.
38:37My bad.
38:37South O.C. Cars and Coffee.
38:51South O.C. Cars and Coffee.
39:05We are here.
39:06We are at a nice outlet with a whole lot of nice cars surrounding us.
39:11Uh, I can say we're surrounded by supercars currently, but this is a supercar.
39:15Yeah, that's what I say.
39:16I mean, uh, really great show from the looks of it because there's so many people.
39:20So, we're going to get to cruise around, check that out, get some coffee, check out some cars.
39:25Right.
39:25So, uh, supercars everywhere.
39:27There's a silver one.
39:28There's an orange one.
39:29There's a yellow one.
39:30There's a non-supercars over there.
39:33Volkswagen van.
39:34That's the car.
39:35There's a dog.
39:37Corgi and a Lambo.
39:38Oh, my gosh.
39:39Winner.
39:40Hang on.
39:41I need a picture of that.
39:41I know you do.
39:43Oh, yeah.
39:44Yeah.
39:45That's the one.
39:47Wow, this is a lot going on here.
39:48Yeah, there is.
39:49Hey, hey, do you want to take a look real quick?
39:52One of these cars behind us is our budget for the show for, like, five years.
39:56I think the headlights off of one of these cars is the budget for the last three builds.
40:00Hey, I think I remember these cars.
40:02Uh, yeah.
40:02So, that one's from Speedwell when we did the Speedwell rally last year.
40:05This is the next episode.
40:07Sorry.
40:08I like mine, like, on the ground dragon, you know?
40:11Nice.
40:12Okay, we have Corvette Alley.
40:14Hey, look, a blue one and a gray one and a purple one and a black one.
40:17Like, you know, I can say they do have a collection of a very wide group of cars.
40:24Check this out.
40:25Some home-built coolness right here.
40:29That's a full-on NASCAR with a nice body on it.
40:32I like this.
40:33Heck, yeah, I would drive that in a minute.
40:35Okay.
40:36All the way up until the officer told me I couldn't.
40:38Ha ha.
40:38Can you believe how far this thing has come since it was rusting in some field in North Carolina?
40:50I remember rolling in, you thinking I was parking my forklift, and honking a clown horn, and here we are.
40:56Clown horn?
40:57Yeah, I had a weep, beep, beep.
40:58I recall that.
40:59That was so long ago.
41:00Yeah, and now we cruise down here under our own power, up and down in suspension with a Coyote Howie.
41:08Yeah, absolutely.
41:10I have a question.
41:11This is your car.
41:12How do you feel about it?
41:14Um, I feel good about it.
41:17I really, truly expected more than that, but I think he airdropped some thoughts into my head, and he's very excited, very happy, and this is his dream come true.
41:26That's the stuff I say all the time.
41:28That's what it was.
41:28Absolutely.
41:29I heard it.
41:29It went from rusting in a field in North Carolina to rusting in a parking lot in beautiful San Clemente, California.
41:34Talk about giving it a new lease on life.
41:36Absolutely.
41:37All right, um, so you did a good job finishing it up.
41:39We have a couple friends to thank.
41:41First of all, thank you to South OC Cars and Coffee for letting us come and park this in the middle of all of that.
41:47And we're trying to get this done quick because of all of that.
41:51It's starting to sprinkle.
41:52Yeah.
41:53Big thanks to Gearstar for actually making this happen.
41:55Oh, as always.
41:56We did not put the stock transmission in.
41:58We got some Gearstar goodness.
42:00Absolutely.
42:00Also, there's some up and down involved here.
42:02Rite Tech.
42:02They got some suspension last year with bags and then completed it this year with a nice system to go with it.
42:09Bluetooth-controlled, complete airbag system, plug and play.
42:13Works great.
42:13Bad move for Lucky, though, because he's sitting here just up and down on his phone all day.
42:17It's like a full-scale video game.
42:18Anyone else?
42:19I think maybe we should thank the San Clemente Police Department for not stopping us.
42:23I think you're right.
42:24And I'd like to say that's a wrap on this because if not, we're going to get the rain on us.
42:28Yes.
42:29Do you have social media?
42:30Lucky on us.
42:30I do have social media.
42:31Thank you so much for asking.
42:32I am Mobile Tech Lucky on everything.
42:34Oh, really?
42:34Well, I am Alex Taylor Racing, and we are Hot Rod Garage Show if you want to see more.
