Mat Sadler reflects on the departure of Chris Powell after just two weeks as interim assistant manager and Walsall's search for a replacement, plus an injury update on Harrison Burke.
00:00Good afternoon everyone, I'm outside Walsall's training ground at Essington where I just spoke to Matt Sadler and also caught up with Conor Barrow, head of their home fixture against Barrow at the Bescott on Saturday.
00:13The press conference obviously opened up with the departure of Chris Powell, came in as interim assistant following the news that Gary Waddock obviously had to step aside from his duties for a number of months to undergo ankle surgery.
00:28So Powell was in the job for just two weeks and then took the role of assistant manager under Jack Wilshire at Luton Town on Monday and Matt Sadler said a number of conversations have been held, a few phone calls have been made and he hopes to know a little bit more about what that looks like in the coming days.
00:48But when sort of pushed on whether they will definitely bring in a replacement, he said that they will 100%.
00:55So yeah, it looks like they're going to be bringing a replacement in the building for Powell who Matt Sadler said, you know, albeit a brief time goes with everyone's best wishes.
01:05And it's maybe sooner than they had maybe have hoped, but, you know, it was always the risk with the sort of position that he was appointed in that that could potentially be the case in terms of him opting for pastures new if an opportunity came around.
01:19And, you know, just a final update, he said that Gary Waddock is recovering well as well after his surgery.
01:26In terms of those returning from international duty, Daniel Cox was back in the building today, Vincent Harper's on his way back.
01:35So he's expected back in the country later today.
01:40And finally, on Harrison Burke, probably going to come too soon for him this weekend.
01:45So not much different really to the update that Matt Sadler gave after the 1-1 draw against Crawley on Saturday.
01:52And that is, you know, that he went for a scan last week, obviously went off injured in the 2-1 win against Bristol Rovers when Walsall were last at the best spot, missed a game against Crawley last week.
02:03And after his scan, it just highlighted, Matt Sadler described it as an old knee issue.
02:08So it's something that he's just nursing.
02:11So, yeah, he said they're going to see how he is in the next 48 hours before they make a decision.
02:15But I feel, you know, this weekend likely to come too soon for him, but he is expected to be back and in the mix for the trip to Cheltenham Town on October the 25th.
