We find out what A Horizontal Concert entails at Dreamland Beds, Brierley Hill.
Transcript
00:00Okay then guys, so we're here at Dreamland in Briley Hill. Dan, you're lying on the
00:07bed here with the guitar next to the hippo and just explain what's going on, what's coming
00:12up. I'm preparing for my horizontal concert here on Friday evening. And just explain what
00:18that's all about. Well I wrote a song called Dreamland, an album of the same name and Frank
00:23came across the album and then had the wonderful idea that I could perform said album in Dreamland
00:29on Briley Hill High School. It's a great idea. So what does it entail? What happens on the
00:34night? The biggest thing is asking the people who run the shop if we can do the project and
00:37luckily they said yes. Dan's got loads of experience of doing songs in Briley Hill with the community.
00:44This is part of a big community project about bringing the high street back to life and about
00:49doing things that you wouldn't normally do on the high street. So when this bed shop's
00:52closed at the night time, why leave it dead and empty? Turn it into a music venue and that's
00:57what it's all about. It sounds great. It's a great idea. So I mean really, so Dan, you're
01:02going to be entertaining the crowd who are all going to be lying in bed, is that right?
01:06Or the audience are going to be lying in bed? Permission to drop off. My music has been
01:11described as meditative so perhaps this is a perfect setting. So you won't take it personally
01:16then if people fall asleep. Absolutely not. You know, we'll be telling stories. A lot of
01:21my songs are inspired by the lives and characters of Briley Hill. For example, the Briley Hill
01:26giant, George Lovett, a man that was over 60 stones and over seven foot tall. His grave's
01:34up there at St. Michael's church. And he was a bit of a misunderstood character, you know,
01:38because despite his huge frame, he had the voice of a child. And it was seen as somewhat
01:45of an exotic specimen and people would sort of, you know, poke fun and laugh and stare
01:49and whatever. But he actually had a problem with his pituitary gland. And then my song sets
01:55the record straight. I'll be playing that amongst other things, you know, a lot from the voices
01:59from the Combs project, the history of glass making, the rich history of arts and crafts in
02:04this area. Brilliant. And he managed to get the words pituitary gland into the lyrics of
02:09the song. That's incredible. That's some going in it really. So Matt, you're here from Dreamland.
02:13How do you feel about this? It's something different and it's good to have everyone in and it's good
02:19for the community. There's not much culture and we try and promote that in the town. So
02:24it's good and using the bedshop in a different way. It's always interesting. Yeah, it's a great
02:28idea. Now, I believe it's ticket only. Is that right? It's all sold out. It's all sold
02:34out this one. Everything we do is free. Yeah. We did have free tickets for this, but it's
02:38completely sold out. Wow. If anyone wants to come along to future events, if you come and
02:43have a look around Dreamland on Mel Street and leave them your email address, they'll pass
02:46it on to me and I'll put you on a list and we'll let you know about any future concerts.
02:51That's brilliant. So Dan, do you want to just play us out just with a quick song? Sure.
02:57They say every striker needs belief that inner steel to come back every time.
