A woman and two children confirmed dead in house fire in Gladstone

A woman and two children have died in a house fire in central Queensland. A crime scene has been set up, with investigators working to determine the cause of the blaze.

00:00A devastating morning discovery.

00:05But what I can confirm is that through the investigations which have been commenced,

00:09we have unfortunately located the bodies of three persons.

00:13A mother and two children were killed when a fire quickly took hold of this two-storey house in Gladstone.

00:20Neighbours were the first to raise the alarm just before 6am.

00:24Firefighters got woken by a bang, she looked out the back window and she comes screaming in and said next door's on fire.

00:31Firefighters brought it under control about 90 minutes later.

00:35We had our first floor collapse to ground floor within about 10 to 15 minutes of our arrival.

00:41The extreme heat hampered search efforts as the fire jumped to several surrounding cars.

00:47Obviously the fire scene is very horrific for all first responders and everyone involved

00:52and it will take some time to go through.

00:55The Mayor says the deaths have left the tight-knit community in mourning.

00:59Absolutely terrible, heartbreaking.

01:02I was with relatives of the family this morning and my heart goes out to them.

01:06On behalf of the community we absolutely send our sincere condolences.

01:19Neighbours have told the ABC they heard explosions and were shocked at the scale of the fire.
