00:00In a landmark announcement that could redefine India's digital future, Google CEO Sundar Pichai
00:08has unveiled plans for the company's first ever artificial intelligence hub in Vishakapatnam,
00:15Andhra Pradesh. This $15 billion project marks Google's largest investment in India and one
00:24of the biggest foreign tech commitments in recent years. In this video, we break down what
00:30this means for India's AI ambitions, the global tech landscape and how it fits into
00:36the government's Vixit Bharat 2047 vision. Speaking on X, Sundar Pichai said he had a
00:43great conversation with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, briefing him about Google's plans to
00:49set up its first AI hub in Vishakapatnam, a project he called a landmark development.
00:56Pichai said the hub will combine gigawatt-scale compute capacity, a new international subsea
01:04gateway and large-scale energy infrastructure, bringing Google's industry-leading AI capabilities
01:12to India. He added that the initiative will accelerate AI innovation and drive growth across
01:19the country.
01:20Google's upcoming AI hub in Vishakapatnam will serve as a massive data and compute powerhouse,
01:28the largest of its kind outside the US. The hub will not only host next-generation AI research
01:35and deployment, but will also strengthen India's digital backbone with a high-speed international
01:41subsea gateway that connects India to global data networks. Partnering with the Adani group,
01:48the hub will support vast energy infrastructure and create a foundation of AI-driven services
01:55across industries, from healthcare and education to finance and manufacturing.
02:01At the signing ceremony in New Delhi, Google Cloud CEO Thomas Kurian described the project
02:08as a landmark investment in India's digital future. He said by delivering industry-leading
02:14AI infrastructure at scale, Google is enabling Indian businesses to innovate faster and unlock
02:21inclusive growth opportunities. Kurian highlighted that this collaboration reflects a shared commitment
02:28between the Indian and US governments to harness AI responsibly and ensure it drives transformative
02:36societal impact.
02:37You know, it's a really important day for us because Google, when we started working on AI back in 2006, 2007,
02:49at that time AI was not seen as a mainstream technology. And we had this vision that if you can have
02:57computational intelligence, it can really assist people in every sector and in every part of the economy.
03:06We've had a teacher in Hyderabad send us a note about one of our products and how she used it to build
03:18an academic curriculum for her class. And she said, I had access to this tool, I just went on the internet,
03:27and I was able to build a class for my students, which would have been very difficult for me to do before.
03:33We're seeing AI being used to answer questions when people are diagnosed with a disease. For example, they go to see a doctor,
03:43they're anxious about the diagnosis, and they may have follow on questions. Many of them who live in rural areas may not have access to
03:53expert doctors, but now using these AI tools, they're able to get answers to questions. We've seen, for example,
04:02people using digital agricultural platforms, farmers, for example, asking very basic questions like what kind of
04:12fertilizer do they use? How much do they use? What kind of weather conditions are likely to affect crops?
04:22And the knowledge that these tools have can assist them in planning, planting, harvesting a lot better.
04:31We're also working with our teams here in India, our engineering teams, to put together digital infrastructure for commerce,
04:40to bring merchants online, so it's much easier to offer your products and services to people. And we see AI being used,
04:51for example, to build a commerce agent that can help people find products and services they need,
04:58transact using newer payment protocols that have no friction and are very easy to use. And so we see all of these as advances in
05:09in technology that we're bringing through the AI hub.
05:14Union Ministers Nirmala Sitaraman and Ashwini Vaishnav, along with Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister
05:20Chandra Babu Naidu and State IT Minister Nara Lokesh attended the high-profile event. Minister Vaishnav thanked Google for its investment,
05:31saying that digital infrastructure will play a crucial role in achieving India's AI vision.
05:36Chief Minister Naidu called the investment a new chapter in India's digital transformation journey, adding that Vishaka Patnam is proud to host India's
05:47first gigawatt-scale data centre and Google's first AI hub in the country.
05:54Now it is a big challenge for you, compared to all public policy makers in other countries.
06:01India is different, our Prime Minister is different. You have to prepare for that.
06:06For all these things, Andhra Pradesh will be the host from now onwards. It is our project, not only Google project.
06:16Government of Andhra Pradesh will support all possible ways to make it successful.
06:22We are having an ambitious plan of 15% growth rate. I am confident there will be a lot of changes, breakthrough changes in all walks of life.
06:34Either health or agriculture or education or the way we are thinking, everything will change.
06:41That is very simple word I am saying now. Don't work hard, work smart. That is going to happen.
06:49With your entry now, Vishaka Patnam, Korean has given good news, 15 billion US dollars within five years time.
07:00That is a welcome news. Not only that, you have to make, I am having an ambition.
07:08One family, one entrepreneur, one family. Earlier I told one IT professional.
07:16Now I am telling one AI use cases they have to prepare or every family has to use AI artificial intelligence in their walks of life.
07:28In all walks of life. It is possible. But ethically and also all security problems you have to take care.
07:37But AI as such is not nobody should oppose. But at the same time, how to protect and how to safeguard ethical values, that is also very important.
