Albury Mayor Kevin Mack speaks to a concerning TikTok trending which has seen Albury locations posted online
Transcript
00:00It was clinkers a month ago.
00:02I mean seriously, everyone sold out of clinkers a month ago because of TikTok.
00:06I tell you, TikTok could do better than that because they could want to do what they're
00:10doing but that's disgraceful and certainly we've been cleaning all our equipment and
00:14cleaning all of our play equipment as well because apparently that was a target.
00:19Because the fallacy that urine is not good for you is wrong.
00:25It's not sterile.
00:26It's full of gunk and people can get sick from that gunk.
00:31So we need to clean it off wherever we see it and if people see this stuff or understand
00:36it's happened, report it through SnapSensolve or ring our office because we'll get people
00:41up to clean it.
00:42Again, it's an added cost to us and our maintenance crews but it's important because, as I say,
00:47urine is full of a whole range of microorganisms that are not good for you and these young
00:52people need to have a good look at themselves.
00:54I mean, that's disgusting, I think, you know, it says a lot about society these days.
00:59They have no respect for anything and it's really sad that TikTok is what they follow.
01:04And I had this conversation at a school the other day, funnily enough, Daniel, if social
01:08media is your leader, you've got problems.
01:11These people around here, they tell me how I should lead.
01:15TikTok or not social platforms.
01:17So that's what I think about it.
01:19And having reports and it actually happening is two different things but we're regularly
01:25checking the player equipment as well without reports because it's important.
01:28If this thing lasts any longer as clinkers, then great, a week.
01:32The reality is, again, you shouldn't cast one person or a couple of people as being the
01:38general population of young people or people in general but that behaviour is terrible and
01:42it's just not good enough.
01:43Well, I guess the fact that the Memorial Bowl adds another layer to it in terms of that
01:49area's connection to Australian history.
01:52Well, that was up at the monument, I mean, that's, you know, sacred, they're sacred places.
01:57I think people see people do and they should report them to the police.
02:01I mean, it's disgusting and I think, you know, people should have a little bit more respect
02:05and respect for the memories of the fallen, respect for the memories of the people who were
02:09their families.
02:10I think it's disgusting.
02:11I just, you know, don't abide it, I don't like it and currently in this current environment
02:16with police getting shot and people at large, I think, you know, people should have
02:21a good look at themselves and realise that it's not okay.
