00:00And I said, your hand's always broken.
00:02You ain't known for your punching power since you moved up from lightweight to welterweight.
00:06Why are you so sure you're going to do this?
00:08It's wild, because if you look at Floyd's resume, it's much deeper than Crawford's.
00:13And Floyd was faster and he had a better defense and all that stuff.
00:16But Floyd picked and chose when he fought guys, especially once he left lightweight.
00:21Go off of that, you know, Floyd is the best fighter, you know, in his era.
00:28And I feel like I'm the best fighter in my era.
00:30Stephen A. Smith reacted to Floyd Mayweather calling out Terrence Crawford, and he didn't hold back.
00:36He said the boxing world today has a bad habit of holding certain fighters back while exaggerating others.
00:42In his eyes, Crawford isn't getting nearly the recognition he deserves,
00:46especially when you look at his skills and accomplishments.
00:49Stephen stressed that age matters.
00:52Mayweather isn't in his prime anymore, and it's unfair to ignore that.
00:55For him, the real story should be Crawford's dominance,
00:59not unnecessary comparisons that distract from his true greatness.
01:04About what he had to say about you when he said you're way better than Floyd Money Mayweather.
01:09I know you heard that he said that.
01:12What came to what thoughts came to your mind when you heard that Canelo Alvarez said that about you?
01:16Hey, you know, that's a that's a big accomplishment.
01:19I mean, compliment, you know, he's been in the ring with both of us.
01:24So he would know, you know, from his his own experience.
01:29You know, a lot of people, they can they can say this, they can say that.
01:34But there's only, you know, a few people that can say they've been in the ring with Terrence Crawford and Floyd Mayweather.
01:40Reflective Shane Mosley broke things down by comparing Crawford and Mayweather.
01:45He pointed out that Crawford is naturally the bigger man and that size and strength give him an edge Floyd never had at welterweight.
01:53But at the same time, Mosley admitted Floyd had something special, sharp technical precision and unmatched defensive skills.
02:01Mayweather's ability to outthink bigger opponents with his ring IQ set him apart.
02:05Mosley's take makes it clear Crawford's strength gives him power.
02:10But Mayweather's career was built on skill and adaptability.
02:14You think's better out of those two, Crawford or Mayweather?
02:20I think Crawford is better, bigger.
02:25Like he's actually moving weight class.
02:28And I would say Crawford is a better all the way all around fighter.
02:34Mayweather's really good, too, though.
02:36You can you can't knock him as well.
02:39You know, he's very talented.
02:41It would have been a tough fight.
02:43But I think Crawford would have the edge over Mayweather because of the long arms and because it's bigger.
02:49You know what I'm saying?
02:50He would have kept him at bay.
02:51It would have been hard for Mayweather to counter, maybe.
02:54But Mayweather is definitely a technician.
02:56I mean, like Crawford said, you know, Mayweather has zero and Crawford, this is zero.
03:01In a sit-down with Ariel Helwani, Terrence Crawford reminded everyone that Canelo Alvarez has the rare authority to speak on this debate.
03:11Why?
03:12Because Canelo has fought both Floyd and Crawford.
03:15Terrence explained that the circumstances were completely different.
03:18Mayweather fought a young, inexperienced Canelo while Crawford faced him as a seasoned champion at 168 LBs.
03:26And still, Crawford came out on top.
03:29For Crawford, Canelo, admitting he felt more power from him, is proof that greatness belongs to different eras.
03:38Looking right there, because there was this thought, this prevailing thought that the smaller man always loses to the bigger man.
03:46This was repeated time and again, time and again throughout the fight week.
03:49And he proved that that's not the case.
03:55Again, I hope you all recognize, this was a 168 pounder fighting a 147 pounder.
04:02He had one fight at 154 last August.
04:06Was the undisputed king at 147, beating Errol Spence in July of 2023.
04:11Came back the following year.
04:16Fought Israel Madrimov at the soccer stadium in Los Angeles.
04:22And then did everything he could to get this fight.
04:27Played his cards the right way.
04:29And there he was.
04:31Standing face to face.
04:32Against Canelo Alvarez, who did seem for the longest time like he didn't want to take this fight.
04:37And because there was great risk involved.
04:41Because not only is Terrence Crawford one of the all-time best fighters in the history of the sport.
04:45He's smaller than him.
04:46So a lot of people would be like, of course you're going to be the smaller guy, right?
04:50But I think Canelo recognized, yeah, he might be smaller, but he's that damn good.
04:55Confident but measured.
04:57Trainer Hackett shared his view.
04:59He said Mayweather, during his fight with Canelo, was a complete fighter.
05:03Polished, disciplined, and unshakable.
05:06Crawford, in contrast, is wilder and more explosive, relying on counters and adaptability.
05:13Hackett respects Crawford, but he believes Mayweather's execution was flawless from start to finish.
05:19Something no fighter has fully matched.
05:21Not even Crawford.
05:23The Floyd Mayweather that Canelo Alvarez fought.
05:27Yeah.
05:29In the last version of Terrence Crawford that we've seen in the ring.
05:33Yeah.
05:33Who's the better fighter, Jay?
05:36Of course you got to give it to Floyd.
05:39Floyd at that time.
05:41Ben, what's up?
05:42Floyd at that time versus Canelo was in total confidence.
05:48His skill set.
05:49His IQ.
05:51You know what I'm saying?
05:52Everything he'd do.
05:53He was just a complete fighter that night.
05:56Bud, I feel like, was up against a lot because he was fighting a guy that we knew something about, but we didn't know too much about.
06:03People don't understand how much a fighter could be thrown off by what he don't know.
06:08And the reason it throws you off is because you're actually learning about the fighter while you're in there.
06:12That's what Bud went up against that night.
06:14That's why he didn't look so great to me.
06:16I could be wrong, but he didn't look so great to me because he was learning a lot about Madrimov while he was in there with Madrimov.
06:22Analytical Max Kellerman offered an interesting perspective.
06:26He explained that once Floyd moved up from lightweight, he became extremely selective with opponents, choosing fights that made sense strategically.
06:34Crawford, however, has taken the opposite approach, often facing whoever was available, no hesitation.
06:40That makes Crawford look more daring and risk-taking while Mayweather appeared more calculated.
06:46Kellerman said this doesn't take away from Floyd's greatness, but it does show Crawford's hunger to test himself across weight divisions and against dangerous opponents.
06:56It's wild because, like, if you look at Floyd's resume, it's much deeper than Crawford's.
07:01And Floyd was faster and he had a better defense and all that stuff.
07:04But Floyd picked and chose when he fought guys, especially once he left lightweight.
07:09He wiped out the junior lights, bring them.
07:12Lightweight, he jumps up to Jose Luis Castillo first thing.
07:15A lot of people think he lost the first fight, but then he won the rematch.
07:19But once he left lightweight, he was careful about when he fought guys.
07:23So even though his resume is deeper with names, people remember, yeah, but he didn't want it with certain dudes at certain times.
07:31Crawford, we all witnessed, even though the resume is thin in certain ways, he wanted it with everyone the whole time.
07:38Crawford has said with confidence that if he fought Floyd in his prime, he believes he would win.
07:45He didn't say it to disrespect Mayweather, but out of belief in his own abilities.
07:49Terrence admires Floyd's legendary skill, but he sees his own versatility, his power, and his ability to switch stances as the keys that would make the difference.
08:00For Crawford, this isn't about tearing down Floyd's achievements.
08:03It's about showing the competitive spirit that defines true greatness.
08:08Who do you think wins in a fight, you or prime Floyd?
08:10Me?
08:12No questions?
08:14Why would you think that I would say Floyd?
08:16You know, that's one of my favorite fighters.
08:18But yeah, nah.
08:19Jeff Mayweather, Floyd's uncle, reminded everyone of something many forget.
08:24When Floyd fought Canelo, he was already past his prime.
08:26He wasn't as sharp or as fast as the Floyd who dominated lighter divisions.
08:31And yet, even then, he schooled Canelo with timing and experience.
08:36Jeff argues that people overlook this when they compare Crawford's win over Canelo to Floyd's.
08:42Context matters.
08:43Floyd was fading.
08:45Crawford is at his peak.
08:46Direct comparisons aren't so simple.
08:48Well, also, if we remember, you know, Canelo at that time was a razor-thin decision.
08:54Floyd won.
08:54Majority decision.
08:56C.J. Ross had it with what a lot of people had as a draw.
09:00And then the other two judges scored it for Floyd, of course.
09:04And that was a Floyd at the top of his game with a very green Canelo with very little experience.
09:12And he still took him, you know, into deep waters.
09:15So, yeah, what was Canelo, what, 20-something, 21, 23, 25?
09:22Yeah, so, yeah, very, very young in the game, obviously.
09:25Very young.
09:25Yeah, very young.
09:26He had more fights than Floyd.
09:27And he lost.
09:29To a man that was 30-something years old, 36.
09:33Well, Floyd was clearly at the top of his career.
09:35And Canelo had fought a lot of people.
09:37At the top of his career.
09:38But you're at the top of your career in your prime.
09:40You ain't in your prime when you were 36.
09:43That's not your prime.
09:45Did he lose?
09:48I mean.
09:48The prime is in your 20s.
09:50It's different for different people.
09:51Yeah, okay.
09:52Well, so, and that's what, and that's why I could not always say what he's saying.
09:58Did you want to make himself look like he did something great?
10:03Enthusiastic Stephen A. Smith had more to say after Crawford's victory over Canelo.
10:08He called it one of the most entertaining performances in years.
10:11Stephen praised how Crawford, the so-called smaller and weaker man, completely outclassed a much bigger opponent.
10:19For him, it wasn't just about skill.
10:21It was about entertainment.
10:23He said boxing needs fighters like Crawford, men who bring both talent and excitement, making every fight unforgettable.
10:313,482 people showed up for this fight.
10:38But the biggest props of the night goes to Terrence Crawford, who did not disappoint.
10:43He was supposed to be the smaller man.
10:45He was supposed to be the weaker man.
10:48He was supposed to be the man that was going to spend the entire night on his bicycle, running for his damn life because Saul Canelo Alvarez was coming his way.
10:57But that is not what happened.
10:59What happened instead, ladies and gentlemen, was a masterclass in boxing by Terrence Crawford.
11:07Now, to me, the fight, some people were saying it was a severely lopsided and stuff like that.
11:12I'm not going for that.
11:13I'm not feeling that at all.
11:15It wasn't like that at all.
11:16OK, I had the fight 5-4 in favor of Terrence Crawford after nine rounds.
11:22It could have gone either way.
11:24And then he basically put on a boxing clinic over the last three rounds of the fight.
11:29And won rounds 10, 11, and 12.
11:31He used his jab.
11:33He kept his distance.
11:34He exchanged when necessary, which is something that I was scared to death of him doing.
11:39But he wasn't scared at all.
11:41There were 482 people in attendance that night.
11:43But the star of the show was Terrence Crawford.
11:46He was supposed to be the smaller man.
11:48He was supposed to be the weaker man.
11:50He was supposed to spend the night running from Canelo Alvarez.
11:53Instead, he delivered a masterclass.
11:56Now, let me be clear.
11:57Some people said it was a one-sided fight.
12:00I don't buy that.
12:01I had it 54-54 after nine rounds.
12:04It could have gone either way.
12:06But then Crawford took over.
12:07In rounds 10, 11, and 12, he put on a clinic.
12:11Sharp jab, perfect distance, and fearless exchanges.
12:15He did what I was scared he wouldn't do.
12:17And he did it brilliantly.
12:20Crawford versus Floyd Mayweather Jr., who wins this fight?
12:23I'm going with Terrence Crawford.
12:24And I don't think that's unpopular or crazy to say.
12:27I think most people will agree with me.
12:30I understand Floyd Mayweather has a lot of fans out there.
12:32But the truth is, as great as Floyd Mayweather is,
12:36Terrence Crawford is one of one.
12:39And I say that because who else has knockout power in both hands, is able to switch stances between Orthodox and Southpaw so seamlessly while having great footwork?
12:54It's not like Terrence Crawford is some stationary target or a flat-footed fighter that's going to be chasing Floyd around.
13:01Terrence Crawford knows how to cut the ring off.
13:03He has tremendous ring IQ.
13:05And not only is he a great boxer, but he's a great fighter.
13:10He'll be able to make it dirty.
13:13If he is on the inside with Floyd, that power will carry him far.
13:19And I just don't see how Floyd will be able to beat a Terrence Crawford.
13:24I really don't see it.
13:26I understand Ford's defense is incredible, but he is smaller than Terrence Crawford.
13:32Terrence Crawford would have a significant reach advantage on Floyd Mayweather.
13:37I believe Terrence Crawford would also be taller than Floyd Mayweather, as well as all the skillful and technical aspects of what I just laid out prior.
13:46So I don't understand how anybody could pick Floyd Mayweather to beat Terrence Crawford.
13:51Styles make fights, and I believe Terrence has the style to beat on Floyd Mayweather.
