Political strategist Prashant Kishor’s new party, Jan Suraaj, has unveiled its first list of candidates for the Bihar Assembly — and it’s turning heads.
00:00This is Preeti Kindar, named Jan Suraj's candidate from Ghore, a constituency in Bihar's Gopal Ganj.
00:10A resident of Kalyanpur village of Ghore, Preeti has been associated with social work for long
00:15and the party hopes a grassroots connect will help voice people's concerns in the Assembly.
00:19The inclusion of Preeti, a transgender woman, is one of the highlights from Prashant Kishore's
00:24new political venture, Jan Suraj, which has just released its first list of candidates for Bihar.
00:29Out of 51 seats, the line-up includes academics, retired bureaucrats, doctors, lawyers and even a popular Bhujpuri singer.
00:36Kishore seems to be pitching Jan Suraj as a party of professionals and clean faces, a clear break from Bihar's old-school politics.
00:43According to the party, the list ensures representation for all, 17 from extremely backward classes, 11 OBCs,
00:507 Muslims, 1 scheduled tribe and 9 from general categories, including 7 women and even 1 transgender candidate.
00:57Some of the most talked-about names are mathematician K.C. Sinha, Bhujpuri singer Ritesh Ranjan Pandey
01:02and Preeti Kinnar, who's drawing major attention as one of the few transgender candidates in Bihar politics.
01:08But it's not all new blood.
01:10Despite his earlier criticism of dynasty politics, Kishore has also fielded Jagriti Thakur,
01:15granddaughter of Karpuri Thakur and Lata Singh, daughter of former union minister R.C.P. Singh.
01:20Kishore seems to be testing a new formula for Bihar, one that blends credibility with caste balance.
