Netanyahu Promises Return of All Hostages in Gaza Ceasefire Deal

A ceasefire between Israel and Hamas, brokered by US President Donald Trump, took effect at noon local time on Friday, marking a pivotal step toward ending a devastating two-year war that has destabilized the Middle East.

The Israeli military's announcement came hours after the nation's cabinet approved the U.S.-backed plan, which includes the release of the remaining Israeli hostages from Gaza in exchange for Palestinian prisoners.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu hailed the return of hostages as a "great achievement."

"I promised the families of the hostages, and I also promised you, citizens of Israel, that we will return everyone, without exception," Netanyahu stated on Friday. "We promised it and we are fulfilling it."

A brief statement from the Prime Minister's Office confirmed the cabinet approved the deal's outline but did not mention other, more controversial aspects of the plan. In line with the agreement, the Israeli military released footage on Friday showing troops repositioning in the Gaza Strip.
