During the Finval-2023 tactical exercise conducted by the Russian Pacific Fleet, standby MiG-31 fighter jets were launched from Anadyr Airfield on the Chukotka Peninsula to intercept a simulated cruise missile over the Chukotka and Bering Seas. The crews successfully completed the air defense mission, destroying the targets with air-to-air missiles. The drill involved about 10,000 service members and over 50 combat units, including submarines, warships, helicopters, and Bal and Bastion coastal missile systems. The purpose of Finval-2023 is to strengthen the defense of the Northern Sea Route and enhance Russia’s readiness in the Arctic.
