00:00Hello and welcome to this Victorian James Weather Update for Friday.
00:04First of all, I want to point out all of this speckled cloud that is sitting over the bight there.
00:09That indicates cold air is our next cold outbreak that is going to come through across the weekend.
00:15Out ahead of that, we've got northerly winds that are increasing.
00:18So anything yellow is a severe weather warning for damaging wind gusts.
00:22Let's just zoom in and have a look how it's missing the inner parts of Melbourne in through here,
00:26but it is much of the rest of the south, southern parts of Victoria and the rangers in there too.
00:31You can see the lines of cloud.
00:33See how they're in like little patterns in through here?
00:36That indicates instability and vigorous airflow in the atmosphere.
00:41So that is one sign of just how strong those winds can be today.
00:46In terms of this in through here, it's all very light, isolated showers that aren't going to add up to very much at all.
00:52So that's during the day on Friday.
00:53Let's have a look at that.
00:54So here we have Friday. Most of the wet weather is over Tasmania.
00:57Here we're looking at just over the southwestern corner.
01:00It really doesn't add up to very much at all.
01:02So that's Friday. Let's now have a look at Saturday.
01:05Here's all of the cold air, these blue and purple lines here that snow down to 600 metres.
01:11So that is the cold air that is knocking on our door and it is ready to come through.
01:15So that starts to flow through as we move through the later parts of Saturday for these parts in through here.
01:20Then let's watch on Sunday.
01:23Here is another surge of cold air that's coming up from the south.
01:26Our isobars are moving in this direction here.
01:28So that's a proper southerly.
01:30So that's I can't stress enough just how chilly that is going to be by the end of Sunday as that comes up.
01:35Now, with this here, we've got a cold air burst.
01:38That is also a form of energy that's in the upper atmosphere.
01:41That's going to interact with moisture that is to our north, but it's not going to come down to us in through here.
01:46So this here is just what it brings with it from the south.
01:50It decreases as it moves across the ranges and then there is an actual gap before you get to the rain that is falling further north.
01:56So you'll see that cloud up there, but no, it is not coming down to us here.
01:59We are separated from that.
02:01So as we're moving across through the day on Sunday, it will get colder as it goes on.
02:06By Monday, that is clearing out of Gippsland in through here.
02:09High pressure is nearly overhead by the end of the day.
02:12So clearing out on Monday and starting to thaw out.
02:15Next week, it's going to be all about the warmth.
02:17I'm going to just zoom out in through here so you can see a little bit further.
02:20High pressure here.
02:21We've got hot air that is coming down into the west and starting to move through.
02:25So as soon as we're out to the west, so as soon as that is moved to our east in terms of the high pressure, we get the warm up.
02:32So here we have this surge of heat for this coming down.
02:35That's Wednesday and then it's a Thursday.
02:37And here is the end of that heat by the end of Thursday.
02:40So Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday is the peak.
02:44Temperatures in Melbourne up around 30 degrees.
02:46Yes, that is not a typo.
02:47And then the cool air comes in and the cold air is there by Friday.
02:51So enjoy that warm up if you like warm weather out ahead of the colder air coming at the end of next week.
02:57What is that going to add up to?
02:58In the southwest, 15 to 25 millimetre that really decreases as you head north of the divide.
03:04And we're not connecting with that tropical moisture as it comes down.
03:08Southwestern parts, western parts of Gippsland, eastern parts of Gippsland, gap in the middle thanks to the way our terrain is set up.
03:14And all of this thanks to the way our terrain is set up.
03:16We get the lighter falls that are in through here with no connection to tropical moisture.
03:21So that's over the next week.
03:22What can we expect from Melbourne in through here?
03:2422 during the afternoon.
03:26Cloud builds for the afternoon.
03:28There is the slightest risk of a very light shower.
03:31It's not going to add up to very much at all.
03:32But yes, we do have those gusty winds.
03:34Not quite in the severe weather warning area, but just around us we're looking at.
03:39We're just under the threshold.
03:41So heading into Saturday, we're about 21.
03:43But then we've got this change that comes later on.
03:46So it's late afternoon and evening that we see that wet weather.
03:50So that's Saturday.
03:52Sunday we start on 19.
03:54And yes, it is going to absolutely drop off.
03:56It'll be freezing by the end of the day.
03:59We've got the risk of a thunderstorm in the late afternoon as this burst of wet weather comes through.
04:04So conditions deteriorate as you go through Sunday.
04:07That leaves us with a lovely 16 as we go into Monday.
04:10The showers are early, then they clear out.
04:12But watch our warm-up next week.
04:14That's about 30 degrees by Thursday.
04:17The change is late.
04:18So we're back down again as we move into Friday.
04:21So a real warm-up Wednesday and Thursday.
04:23If you like the heat, they are the days for you.
04:26As always, head to 519 Weather for the latest.
