Announced by U.S. President Donald Trump on October 8, the Israel Hamas Ceasefire outlines a 20-point plan negotiated in Egypt to end two years of relentless conflict. 00:00It is being touted as one of the most significant peace breakthrough in the Middle East in years.
00:05On October 8, US President Donald Trump announced that Israel and Hamas have agreed to the first
00:11phase of a ceasefire, a 20-point peace plan negotiated in Egypt promising to end two years
00:18of bloodshed that tore through Gaza, Lebanon, Yemen and beyond. But as fireworks light up
00:24the night sky in Tel Aviv and families of hostages embrace after months of unimaginable pain,
00:30the question remains, will it really hold? For the families of the hostages, this moment is
00:36everything. They've waited, prayed, protested and finally, finally their loved ones may be coming
00:43home soon. Hamas has agreed to release hostages as part of the first phase of the US broker deal.
00:49Nearly 2,000 Palestinian prisoners too, including hundreds serving life term, are also expected
00:55to be freed in return from Israel. It's a delicate balance of politics and pain, of hope and history.
01:03Even as celebrations unfold, northern Gaza remains a dangerous combat zone. Israel's military has
01:09warned civilians not to return home, a reminder that peace on paper does not always mean peace
01:16from the ground. AFP reports strikes continuing in parts of Gaza, despite the ceasefire announcement.
01:22So, has the war really ended or merely paused? President Donald Trump calls it, quote-unquote,
01:30a historic moment of courage. But critics and analysts are not very sure. There are concerns that
01:37will Israel actually comply with the deal? Because history tells us Israel has openly broken
01:44ceasefires before. Ensuring compliance from allowing aid to flow to lifting blockades may prove harder
01:52than signing any paper in Cairo or, for that matter, Washington. The United States is once again
01:58at the center of this fragile equation. Under President Biden, pressure on Israel had grown,
02:05but it was Trump who seized the moment, determined to claim what some call a noble-worthy peace.
02:12But is this diplomacy or politics? Under the deal, Israel will gradually withdraw to agreed lines
02:19inside Gaza. In exchange, Hamas will commit to a phased disarmament, though how and when remains
02:27unclear. It's a plan built on conditional trust and a promise that the United States will guarantee
02:33compliance. But who enforces peace in a land where every truce has been temporary? What happens if a
02:41single rocket is fired or a single hostage remains unaccounted for? Will Israel retaliate again as it
02:49did after previous agreements even in Qatar after the 2024 ceasefire collapsed? For now, the guns are
02:56silent. But silence in the Middle East has always been temporary. The world waits to see if this time
03:04it will last and last longer.
