Blackpool take on Stockport County in their first game since Steve Bruce's sacking.
Transcript
00:00What was that first meeting like on Monday morning when players are back in and the mood
00:04that's the hand of the club at that time?
00:06Yeah, it was obviously, you speak a little bit about the gaffer and about Agers, sorry
00:14Steve and Agers, but then you've got to get to work so it's putting in place what you're
00:19trying to implement very quickly over the first and second day before they had Wednesday
00:25off. All the players are bought into it and they've worked extremely hard on the training
00:30field so as I said we're looking forward to Saturday.
00:34Yeah, do you have to quickly lay out what you want, make it clear to the players and
00:37show them what you need?
00:39Yeah, but you can do that, you can do it collectively and you can do it individually, you can speak
00:45to individuals on the pitch, how you're going to try and implement what you're wanting, you
00:51speak to the older players because they're the ones obviously will place the dressing room,
00:55so there's all little dots you need to connect to make sure everything's in place for us to
01:02make sure we're ready for Saturday, so yeah, the boys have been great.
01:05Obviously you worked under the gaffer, what was the conversation like with him just
01:08obviously at the start of this week, did he just offer you advice, did he offer you anything?
01:12Yeah, I spoke to Steve on Sunday, obviously let the dust settle a little bit and
01:17he was great, I just obviously thanked him, thanked him for firstly bringing me up into his staff
01:25and I've learned lots from him and Agus and the both of them were just kind of answered,
01:31go and try it your way, it didn't work the way we would have hoped but you're more than ready so
01:39hopefully it goes well.
01:41Yeah, obviously things take work out on the pitch but how much have you enjoyed these 13 months of being
01:45part of Steve Bruce's backroom stuff?
01:47I've loved it, I've loved it, I think as a former attacker myself working with the likes of
01:55how well Fletcher had last year, Rob Apter we obviously sold him on, Kyle Joseph we sold him on as
02:03well and obviously how well Sonny Kerry's doing in the championship so being a little part of their
02:08journey and that's what I take from it, it's not it was me or it was anyone else or to be a little
02:15part of their journey and dropping them a text when they're doing well, they've obviously made the
02:21club a lot of money and the other one obviously Sonny's moved on and he's doing great so you're
02:26pleased for them.
02:27Obviously you mentioned the last few months haven't gone well, you've sort of seen training up close,
02:31you've seen what's been doing, does that give you a clear vision of what should change,
02:34what needs to change?
02:35I think as I said it's like everyone's got their own way and I'm sure you have and everyone else,
02:41all the fans will have their own opinions but as a coach you need to support the manager
02:47so you're working underneath him to support him and relaying the messages the way he wants to play
02:53even when it's like you go away from the 11v11 and it's the smaller groups you're still trying to
02:58focus on how that he's wanted to implement for a Saturday so yeah that's I've learned a lot from
03:06that and I'm hoping to now put my own standpoint.
03:11I know you had the chance in 2023 but is it another good audition, another good test shall we say for
03:15you to be a manager like just just to see what it's like again?
03:19I think I said back then it's like you know when you step up it's whether you start to learn about
03:25yourself, can you handle the meetings with all the first team players, can you implement on the
03:30on the pitch what you really want? As I said last time it was changing from the way Mick was doing
03:36it to the way I wanted to do it, we're getting predominantly the footballers in on the pitch
03:42like Morgan and Charlie Pitino and Keshe and so on. This time I've been round about the players so I know
03:49what they can do and I know what they can't do so hopefully the way we're wanting to play will suit
03:55the players that aren't going to be on the pitch. Do you like that feeling of being in charge of sort of
03:59moulding things into your own image, do you enjoy that? Yeah yeah of course I mean who wouldn't but
04:05it's not that now I'm taking the team I'm above everyone it's I mean I'm sure you've seen me out
04:11there I'm carrying the goals I'm putting the gear away I'm doing everything that I normally would so it's about
04:17as I said it's not about me it's about supporting the players for Saturday and then whatever else
04:22happens will take care of itself. And obviously no matter what happens down the line we don't know
04:26who's going to come in we don't know it could be you you know whatever happens would you like to
04:30remain in Blackpool do you like to still be part of this sort of coaching team in the long term?
04:34I've loved my time here you know as I said as a player I would have wished to get back here permanent
04:39it never really happened but I'm not even thinking about that if I'm being honest I think the most
04:44important thing is Saturday because as I said fans are travelling numbers we need to be ready
04:49it's not about me it's about the team on the pitch. Is it easy as a coach, easy as a person to sort of
04:54put things in boxes and just think have that sole focus for Saturday? Yeah because that's
04:59that's what you need to do it's not I'm not thinking about myself I'm as I said I'm more relaxed
05:04than I was probably last time and I'm just looking forward to the challenge and so are the players.
