Devon Lee Carlson has been defining It-girl style since the early days of YouTube vlogging. In this episode of "The Good Buy," the fashion influencer and entrepreneur sits down with Harper's BAZAAR to discuss her style inspirations (think Y2K Versace meets Cher from 'Clueless'), her self-admitted shopping obsession, and how she honed her signature style. From rummaging through the racks at Goodwill and spending every paycheck at Brandy Melville to co-founding Wildflower Cases and sitting front row at couture shows, Devon reflects on how dressing up helped her feel seen long before she actually was. Now, whether she's dressing for Instagram or dressing for everyday life, Devon proves that great personal style isn't about chasing what's next— it's about knowing who you are and dressing like it.

00:00Hi, I'm Lynette Nylander.
00:01And I'm Leah Chernikoff, and this is Harper's Bazaar's The Goodbye.
00:06Where we invite celebrities, designers, models, and tastemakers to talk shop.
00:11What they buy, where they got it, and why it matters.
00:16Lynette, here we are in Los Angeles.
00:18In Los Angeles.
00:20The Goodbye Los Angeles edition.
00:22Yes.
00:22Do you have your goodbye ready for me?
00:25Well, my goodbye this week is more of a dream buy, sadly, than it is a goodbye.
00:31Tell me your wishes.
00:33Yeah, one must be fiscally responsible in these post-tariff times.
00:39That's right.
00:39I love the new Chanel 25 bag.
00:43It's so gorgeous.
00:45Chanel bags are always, you know, perfect, and they come up a lot on the goodbye.
00:48But this new shape is really for a girl who carries around a lot of, beep, a lot of shit.
00:56A lot of stuff.
00:58Well, in New York, we really have to carry our lives around with us.
01:01Yeah, and it's just got this, it's got a really sort of big base and these kind of big pockets on the side.
01:08And it comes in, you know, a classic black with the gold hardware that's gorgeous.
01:13But it comes in this baby pink.
01:15And I'm not particularly a pink girl, but this is a really good bag.
01:19So cute.
01:20Very beautiful.
01:21The new campaign is the one with Dua Lipa and Jenny from Blackpink in it.
01:26It's great, but it's a dream buy.
01:27I'll go to Kanban.
01:29But listen, if we don't have dream buys, then like, then when you actually get your dream buys, the shopping isn't as sweet.
01:37Yes.
01:38As when you dreamed of it, you know?
01:40100%.
01:40It's part of the process.
01:41You have to aspire to something, but yeah.
01:45That's what I would like.
01:45We must to dream.
01:47What about you?
01:48Oh, Lynette, high and low.
01:50Okay.
01:50Here we are.
01:51Okay, well, you know, our boss and fearless leader, Samira Nasser, Harper's Bazaar's editor-in-chief, she does this newsletter, which I edit.
02:01And she usually, she puts in like a bunch of her picks of things that she is into.
02:06And, you know, she has impeccable taste.
02:08And often it's things that are, come with an impeccable price tag.
02:11But this latest one, it was hair accessories.
02:15And she has this claw, I'm a sucker for claw clips.
02:17I am a 90s kid.
02:19And that is always going to be a part of how I just throw my hair up.
02:23She found these.
02:24I was shook.
02:25An Amazon link from Samira.
02:27It's a claw clip and you can get it in all these different colors and you get it personalized with rhinestones.
02:33And it's so, she has a tortoiseshell one and it says Samira in cursive down the side.
02:38And I want my own.
02:39I was thinking about a pink one with red rhinestones, but then I put that in and she was like, I don't like it.
02:44So we'll see.
02:45But I'm waiting until the story comes out.
02:48But what a fun gift.
02:50And think about all the things you could put on a clip and give to your friends.
02:53That's pretty major.
02:54And how much are they though?
02:55$29.95.
02:56Okay.
02:57That's great.
02:58It's a great gift.
02:58It's a great thing for yourself.
03:00Okay.
03:00It's very fun.
03:02I trust.
03:02I trust in it.
03:03Speaking of things that I'll throw back.
03:06Our next guest is somebody who has such an affinity for that kind of thing.
03:13She is someone who I observe from her viral YouTube videos and from her social media presence and has now sort of transitioned into the high fashion space and really has a sense of style that kind of melds together all the 90s and 2000s.
03:35Yeah, she's a good Y2K, she's like a Y2K kind of embodiment of like how to do that trend as it were.
03:43Yeah, she's like the girl next door if the girl next door was kind of supermodel looking and feeling and just has what seems like the best personality and we can't wait to delve in.
03:54Bottle of sunshine.
03:55Yeah.
03:55Yeah, it is really exciting to say that Devon Lee Coulson is this week's goodbye episode.
04:08This week's guest sets Gen Z hearts ablaze with her playful and eclectic sense of style.
04:15She is an influencer extraordinaire adored by the likes of Gucci, Balenciaga and Saint Laurent and she is also a model who recently made her runway debut at Renzer Shuler.
04:27She's an entrepreneur with her business, Wildflower Phone Cases carried by everyone from Charlie XCX to Addison Rae.
04:34And she, most importantly, is a shopper who understands the thrill of a thrifted gem as well as a designer must have piece.
04:42Welcome to the goodbye, Devon Lee Carlson.
04:44And special guest and fast pet on the goodbye, Martin.
04:51Martin!
04:53Thank you for having us.
04:55Martin, do you want to talk to us about your purchases?
04:59He said he's very happy to be here and he loves shopping.
05:01There we go.
05:03Thank you, Martin.
05:04Well, Devon, super excited.
05:06I think you represent, like, how women, young women in particular, are dressing now.
05:13Like, you freak it.
05:15You freak it.
05:16You go, I watch your videos and you get the thrill of going to a vintage shop.
05:20It's crazy.
05:21I always say she finds something to buy wherever she is in the world.
05:26I see you in videos in Paris and you have these jeans and you're like, they're perfect so I had to get them.
05:30And then it's like, oh, my God, I bought these amazing boots.
05:34So let's talk about it.
05:36What's your shopping philosophy?
05:38I genuinely think I could shop anywhere.
05:41Like, give me a store and I will find something.
05:43I like any type of store, high end, low end.
05:47Like, whenever anyone asks me my favorite stores, I'm kind of like everything.
05:52Like, I feel like I could find something anywhere.
05:55I'm really down for the hunt.
05:57I also just have a massive shopping addiction.
06:00Yeah.
06:01Well, that's welcome to you.
06:03We're here to indulge it.
06:04And how would you describe your own personal style?
06:07Because it's like there's a style for sure, which we were talking about.
06:12It's like Y2K, throwback.
06:14I said you look like the girl next door if the girl next door was like a supermodel.
06:19Yeah.
06:19But like, you like a lot of things and so talk about it.
06:23Yeah.
06:24I honestly think like one of the best things you can do when like trying to find your own style,
06:31which what I did was like never say no.
06:34Like kind of try everything when you're like growing up.
06:37Because in high school, I was so afraid to stand out.
06:40I was a dancer, so I wore Lululemon leggings and like Ugg boots every single day to school,
06:46mostly because I had dance after.
06:48Yeah.
06:48But I wasn't really until I was a senior in high school where I kind of started being like,
06:53okay, I'm going to wear what I've like always dreamt of wearing.
06:57I started getting some more confidence and I just tried everything.
07:01I like, I don't know.
07:03I didn't know a lot about fashion either.
07:05So what I knew was like Disney Channel and like Girls Next Door and The Simple Life.
07:12Like that was kind of my introduction.
07:14I loved Seventeen Magazine.
07:16That to me was like, I felt like I was learning a lot about fashion.
07:20Like my mom loved shopping so much.
07:23Like I definitely got it from her.
07:25Did she take you guys?
07:27All the time.
07:28My sister hated it.
07:29My sister still to this day does not like in-person shopping.
07:32Like she knows if I ask her to come shopping with me, it's going to be like hours.
07:36And she's like a hot down.
07:38Well, she looks so amazing as well.
07:39Like she's really good at online shopping.
07:41Right.
07:42I'll give her that.
07:43Yeah.
07:43Do you like the thrill of going to somewhere in person?
07:47It's an adventure.
07:48I love it.
07:49Yeah.
07:50But I mean, I also like, I love scrolling.
07:53I love finding vintage on Etsy, eBay, RealReal.
07:59It's like I scroll the RealReal more than Instagram.
08:02Let's talk about what you're wearing right now.
08:04This is from the RealReal.
08:05The RealReal.
08:06What is it?
08:07I'm wearing Demi Vintage from 2011 Louis Vuitton designed by Marc Jacobs.
08:14It's a brown suede dress with a little round collar.
08:21It's lace up with this like leather ribbon-ish vibe.
08:27And then it's got gold grommets.
08:31Grommets.
08:31Yeah.
08:32With the Louis Vuitton logo, little LVs around it.
08:35And can you adjust the-
08:37You can adjust this.
08:38And then it has a little like, it's like a sophisticated closure so you don't see actual skin.
08:45Oh, right.
08:46We're very demure.
08:47Ladies today.
08:48I know.
08:49Talk about ladies.
08:49How cute are these?
08:51These are very gorgeous.
08:52They're round toe, which I don't tend to prefer, but these are very gorgeous.
08:57They remind me of like a Gossip Girl, like a shoe you would see in Gossip Girl.
09:00Yeah.
09:01But they're shockingly comfortable.
09:03And I love a patent.
09:04I don't believe that for a second.
09:05They are.
09:06The first time I wore them, I was like, oh, this is going to be hard.
09:10But then I just, you have a martini or two and-
09:12And you're walking on air.
09:14You can run down the cobblestones.
09:15They have a strap.
09:17You're fine.
09:17You're locked in.
09:19Yeah.
09:19I love sexy shoes.
09:23I think I love like a lady shoe and a sexy shoe and like no in between really.
09:27This is both.
09:28Yeah.
09:28Yeah.
09:28Let's talk about some of your style inspirations.
09:31Who is on the mood board forever?
09:35Forever mood board.
09:36I always say legally blonde, 13 going on 30, Cher from Clueless.
09:43Like movies that I saw when I was a young girl and I was like, oh, you can still be yourself and like still be a boss.
09:52Like kind of like take charge and still be girly and like, I don't know, take on the world.
10:00Which I kind of always was like, I feel really girly, but I do serious things.
10:05But I don't want to ever like not be myself.
10:08Yeah.
10:08So I think that really inspired me.
10:10Barbies were my favorite growing up.
10:12Like I would change their outfits.
10:14Like every, I would like literally play like adults, like not moms or parents or teenagers.
10:20I would literally be like, we're living in our apartment.
10:23We're going to go on a date with our boyfriend.
10:25Like, and I would change their outfits like all the time.
10:27So I love Barbies, I love 90s supermodels.
10:31Like I remember when I saw like photos of Claudia Schiffer and Chanel the first time, I was like, she's like a Barbie doll.
10:37Yeah.
10:38A real life Barbie.
10:39It was like that.
10:40But then I also love Kate Moss and Jane Birkin and Rihanna style.
10:45Honestly, like when I was growing up in high school, she was my number one, like inspiration for so many things.
10:52I just love powerful, like women who aren't afraid to dress like in a hot way and still be taken seriously.
11:03Yeah.
11:03And have fun with it.
11:04It's so refreshing.
11:06Because did you guys see that SNL skit recently?
11:09Yes.
11:09I was laughing.
11:14It was hysterical.
11:16I know judgment.
11:18We love the row.
11:20We love the row.
11:21And that simple classic style.
11:23Those pieces.
11:25But I always say, I think personally, the people who look best in it, add it in and freak it and don't just wear it head to toe.
11:32And it was kind of like a pens down moment when I saw it on SNL.
11:37It's like, our generation or our fashion generation, I should say, is going to be defined by this like kind of boring look.
11:43Giant oversized suit.
11:45I know the one where it was like, I could have a pregnancy until full term and no one would notice.
11:50And you're like, yeah, literally.
11:51You're like, it's true.
11:52And so what is great about you and your references and the women that you like is that you're like, no, I'm going to look like sexy glam.
12:01You know, it's like, it's like Versace in the 90s.
12:04It's like the girls were giving and living.
12:06They're just like, the clothes weren't wearing them.
12:08Yeah.
12:08And even still, I think that like I wear jeans and a plain t-shirt all the time.
12:12But I like to wear something for myself always.
12:15Like I'll wear like cute underwear, cute bra or like fun socks or like a silly bag.
12:21Like I love having like at least one thing for myself, whether people see it or not.
12:25Like it's, yeah, I don't know.
12:27I feel like then for me, it feels like I'm not being boring.
12:30No, I think like we had Linda Evangelista on and she talked about in the 90s, she was wearing something like really plain.
12:37Like she had just gotten into her mares and it was just about jeans and a t-shirt.
12:41But it was like, she still did the thing.
12:43Like her hair was 20 million different colors at the time.
12:47And she, yeah, it's like, I think there's a jeans and t-shirt simplicity that like that's the reason why it's a uniform of the glow.
12:54Yeah. But you got to put your own spin on it when it's just like from the rat.
12:59And also it's like clearly fashion brings you joy.
13:02Yeah.
13:02So why wouldn't you dress yourself happy every day?
13:06Exactly.
13:06Because you can.
13:07I just re-organ, I like, my boyfriend makes fun of me because once a week I like reorganize my closet and go through everything.
13:14Like I, you know, I love Clary Radshaw too.
13:17I should have said that.
13:18But honestly, all of the girls.
13:19My friends say I'm more of a Charlotte, but I feel like I'm an in-between of all of them.
13:23I think you're, yeah.
13:24I think you're a Carrie-Charlotte hybrid.
13:27Yeah, totally.
13:29Who, who's like best friend is Samantha.
13:31And like, I'm always like loving the like scandalous.
13:34Yes.
13:35But going through my clothes and like seeing like, I like my money where I can see it in my closet.
13:41Yeah.
13:41Is that what Carrie Bradshaw said?
13:42Yeah.
13:43That's, I like love just going through my clothes and being like, these are mine.
13:47Yeah.
13:48I just love it.
13:49Oh my guys are here.
13:50And so I reorganized it to be like, okay, these are going to be daytime dresses.
13:54So instead of waking up and like putting on sweats and a t-shirt, I can like put on a
14:00cute linen dress that like I have had for a long time and never wear.
14:04Like I just want to wear my things.
14:06And you're like comfortable, but it's not like sweatpants.
14:09I always think like as much as someone who loves sweatpants and if I'm at home, I totally
14:14wear them.
14:15It's just like, it's a bit of a waste.
14:17Like especially when you're a fashion girl and you have looks, you're just like, oh,
14:20like this was where I ended up.
14:22Yeah.
14:23I want to get back to your closet, but first things first, what was something that you
14:28bought when you had made it or maybe you got your first big check and you thought, I'm
14:32going to do that?
14:33Well, I was so bad with money.
14:36I spent like, my account was at zero every single time I got a paycheck because I got
14:41a job when I was about to turn 16.
14:45I worked at a go-karting place and I would just go to Brandy Melville and spent every single
14:49check or go to Goodwill and go to Jamba Juice, buy all my friends Jamba Juice.
14:53Like I thought, whatever.
14:55But once I, my first time going to New York, Wildflower had just started and I bought myself
15:03a pair of Prada sunglasses from the Times Square sunglasses hut.
15:08They were just classic black Prada sunglasses.
15:12And then they had the Prada like triangle logo on the side.
15:16And I just remember like looking at myself, like when I would drive and looking in the
15:22mirror and like seeing the Prada logo and just being like, oh my God, like that's me under
15:26there.
15:26Yeah.
15:26Like I get to wear these.
15:27I love it.
15:28Oh yeah.
15:29The power of fashion just makes you feel like I can't believe this is my life.
15:34Yeah.
15:34Like this is me.
15:35Well, it's part of the fantasy.
15:37It's all the part.
15:37It's like a movie.
15:38You need the fantasy.
15:39If there's no like fantasy, it's not it.
15:42And the important thing to remember is that your fantasy isn't, it doesn't have to be Prada.
15:47Sometimes some people's fantasy is like a little thrift number that they saw that, yeah,
15:53that, that Cher Horowitz wore or is reminiscent of and that's your fantasy.
15:58A hundred percent.
15:58And it's just whatever makes you feel like the best version of yourself.
16:02That's what you should be going after.
16:03Yeah.
16:04I want to talk about just go back to your closet because I've seen in your videos,
16:08this is a real built out.
16:10There's like windows.
16:11It looks custom.
16:12That looks like custom cabinetry.
16:14Yeah.
16:15I want to talk about that because it's serious.
16:17Well, when I bought, uh, I bought my house in 2021 and the first thing I did was make
16:24a room with a closet.
16:25Yeah.
16:25Yeah.
16:26And I was working with, actually bought the house for my friend and she had, it was like,
16:34I had put in six offers previously on a bunch of different houses.
16:37I toured this house serendipitously.
16:40Like it was just, everything was so meant to be.
16:43And I walked in and they were like, oh, this is so-and-so's house.
16:45And I was like, I know her.
16:47And I texted her.
16:48She was like, the house is yours.
16:49It was literally like, oh, I love her.
16:52I love that.
16:52We even, even buying houses is like friend, is community effort.
16:57I like that.
16:57Well, it just has such like a good girl, female energy in that house.
17:02And she had told me that was the room that she used as her closet too.
17:05And she always wanted to build it out.
17:06I worked with these designers and I knew I wanted to make blue, like have baby blue carpet
17:13in the house.
17:13Yeah.
17:14Mew Mew, the Mew Mew store.
17:15Yeah.
17:16I was just like so obsessed.
17:18And they sent me the first mock-up and I was just beyond obsessed.
17:22And actually we were, for Wildflower, we had a stone collection of like different marbled
17:27phone cases.
17:28Yeah.
17:28And one of them was this blue marble that we didn't end up using.
17:31And I had always said, if I had a house, I want to get like either the blue marble in
17:34the kitchen, whatever.
17:35And so in this, my island in my closet has the blue marble on it that matches the blue
17:40carpet.
17:40And then we have, it's just like smoke glass doors, whatever.
17:44But the people who were building my closet were building RuPaul's closet at the same time.
17:49That's really good energy.
17:50And I was like, I feel like I'm so out of my league.
17:52Oh my God.
17:53But they would bounce back and forth between my house and RuPaul's house.
17:57So that energy was coming back to your closet.
17:59I was like, I am in good shopping company.
18:02Yeah.
18:03These people are building closets for serious clothes.
18:06So I feel like I'm making the right decision.
18:08Yeah.
18:08Well, Ru has two closets, one for girl Ru and one for boy Ru.
18:13And they're both obviously incredible.
18:16I was wondering what made you start to feel confident and like feel like you could express
18:21yourself more with your style.
18:23Something just switched in me once I was older.
18:26I think like, especially being a senior in high school, you're like kind of the, there's
18:31no one above you who's intimidating.
18:33Yeah.
18:33Like this is it.
18:34It's me.
18:35And I was friends with a lot of older kids when I was, I was like friends with older kids
18:38and friends with younger kids.
18:40Once I was the oldest, I was kind of just like, didn't give a fuck and just would wear
18:45whatever I wanted.
18:46And then it only got like, once people started like saying, I think I got nominated for like
18:53best dress or whatever in, didn't win, obviously.
18:57Didn't win.
18:57Obviously.
18:58No.
18:58Because I wore a lot of like questionable.
19:00It was cute for sure.
19:01But like, I look back.
19:03Just, I wanted to be an adult so bad that I wore, I like loved free people.
19:12I would wear a lot of like the, the statement necklaces and do the like little buns.
19:17Like I just tried things that are so not me, but like now looking back, I'm like, I needed
19:23to do that to see if it would work.
19:25But even like, I would go to like One Oak when I was like 16 and the things that I would
19:31wear to One Oak, I was trying to be like, like 30.
19:35Like I would wear like the disco pants from American Apparel.
19:39Had them.
19:40Did you ever know LF?
19:42Yeah.
19:42Yeah.
19:42I was obsessed with LF.
19:44So I would wear like LF and like boots.
19:46And I just always, I look back and I'm like, I wish that I dressed my age.
19:51Yeah.
19:51But I wanted to be older so bad.
19:54Yeah.
19:54You're just so trying to find who you are and you're like, I want to be older because
19:58I'm young and you're, 16, 17 is a really interesting time because you're just not old enough to
20:04go to some of these places because you're not 18 or 21 or whatever it is here.
20:08Yeah.
20:08But you're, you just can't wait.
20:10And it's sad.
20:11You, you know, hindsight's 20, 20.
20:12You only, when you're like older, you think, why, like, why was I in such a rush?
20:17I know.
20:17I think that too.
20:18And also like, I grew into my body very young.
20:21Like I was, had big boobs and was just like, whenever, like choreographers would come to
20:28teach our dance team, they would always say, what's in the water at Newberry Park?
20:31Because we were all like five, five, eight, five, nine, fully developed women.
20:37But we were like 16.
20:38So I think that even dressing in the clothes that were like maybe for me at that age, I
20:43didn't fit into Abercrombie kids.
20:45Like the Abercrombie and Fitch, the jeans were too short on me.
20:48Like I, Hollister was hard for me to find the right fit.
20:51So I was constantly like, like, it's so funny.
20:54It is like, I would beg my mom for true religions.
20:57Cause I was like, they're all that fit me.
20:59Like, I'm sorry.
20:59I just like only the, I just need them.
21:03She's always like, you girls are so silly, but like, I don't know, just finding clothes
21:09that, that were like meant for my age just never fit me correctly.
21:14Like I just looked wrong.
21:16Speaking of, I mean, you talked about a time that you're not, maybe not regret, but you
21:20think, like, I would have maybe done that differently.
21:22Is there anything you particularly regret buying?
21:26So many things, but I don't really, I like, I buy them and I'm like, that made me happy
21:33for that moment.
21:34So I don't really regret it, but like, it was definitely silly.
21:38Like what?
21:38I bought this Bart Simpson Moschino sweater dress.
21:42Oh yeah.
21:42I actually know this collection.
21:43That like does not fit me at all.
21:44But I'm, I like, my boyfriend and I were like, had a Simpsons phase.
21:49We still, we love the Simpsons forever, but we were just like talking about it a lot.
21:54And so I bought the dress and like, wanted to be like, yeah.
21:57Yeah.
21:58And, uh, it just doesn't fit me at all.
22:02And I think that that was just a really, I do, I buy, I do emotional purchases all the
22:06time, but like I tried to wear it out and it can, it barely covers my butt.
22:10And then I try to style it other ways.
22:11I'm like, I just don't think this is meant to be for me, but I still have it.
22:16Oh, you still have it.
22:16And the motivation was so pure.
22:18Yeah, I just, and I'm also like, you know, one day I'm going to be like bored at home
22:23and want to be in like little boy shorts and I'll throw it on.
22:26Like I can find a place for it.
22:28Yeah.
22:29Do you have a, not an issue, but are you someone who likes to keep rather than give away?
22:35Oh, I'm a hoarder for sure.
22:36I have like an archive in my, trying to be polite.
22:39Yeah.
22:40And she was like, no, I'm a hoarder.
22:41I'm a full on hoarder.
22:42It's like always been an issue for me.
22:44Like getting rid of things.
22:46I'm like, but I wore that to a concert where that one song played.
22:49Yeah.
22:50I can't get rid of it.
22:51Yeah.
22:52Or even like I went to Brazil and there's this dress that I wore.
22:55And I just remember being like, but I went to Brazil in that dress.
22:58Like that's my reason for keeping it.
23:00Yeah.
23:01But I've been better at narrowing down the things that I'm hoarding, hoard, like, because
23:09I do a lot of clean outs because I buy so much.
23:12This one is interesting because again, you're lucky.
23:15Let's talk about some of the brands.
23:17You were just in a Chanel campaign.
23:19You are, you know, often at the Saint Laurent.
23:21With my mom.
23:22Yeah, which was gorgeous.
23:23We loved it.
23:24We wrote about it on HoppersBazaar.com.
23:26You are often at the Saint Laurent show.
23:29You have an amazing relationship with Balenciaga.
23:31I think I'm going to see you in a couple of weeks at the Gucci show in Florence.
23:35Yes, you're going in Florence.
23:35I've never been to Florence.
23:36I can't wait.
23:37It's very beautiful.
23:38It's so beautiful.
23:38You are one of those rare influencers that, you know, is able to operate in that space.
23:45It's really an amazing thing.
23:46It's not easy to do.
23:48You started your internet journey when?
23:50I mean, I love, I've just always loved taking pictures and like doing that, making music
23:57videos with my friends and, you know, stuff, just being girls.
24:01And I was always doing MySpace photo shoots and then that turned into Facebook photo shoots,
24:07which turned into Instagram photo shoots.
24:09And then when Wildflower started in like April of 2012, that's kind of when Instagram had
24:16just started too.
24:17So me and my sister were taking a lot of pictures, just like innocently, literally not thinking
24:23we're doing marketing or like any, it was literally just like in our spare time, let's
24:27go out in the field next to our house and like put on a flower crown and our studded shorts
24:34that our mom made and pose with peace signs.
24:36Like that was just kind of what we were obsessed with.
24:38And then Wildflower started gaining a following and me and my sister started gaining followings
24:43and it just kind of like happened, like we weren't trying to really do anything.
24:50My dad had always told me to start a YouTube channel when I was in like middle school, because
24:55my dad is very tech savvy, he's really cool.
24:58He's like, used to be a skater.
25:00He's still skate words, but like, he's just a cool dad.
25:04He knows everything.
25:05He was telling me about AI 10 years ago.
25:07Like he's just really with it.
25:09And he had told me to start a YouTube channel when I was like 13 and I was like, absolutely
25:13not.
25:14And then I did in high school, got so bullied, not like actually, but like people on MySpace
25:20were like sub posting about us and making fun of me and my friend who did it.
25:24How was that to deal with?
25:26Oh, it was like, we were just coming at it so pure and like sweet.
25:31And I just, no one was, I grew up in one, a small town that's like, if you do anything
25:36different, you kind of get made fun of.
25:39So it was fine.
25:41I only made us stronger.
25:43I mean, and look at you now.
25:45Yeah.
25:45Yeah.
25:46But so then once I think I got enough confidence to not care if it goes south, I started doing
25:55YouTube videos.
25:56And yeah, I don't know.
25:59I still post on there once in a while if I'm up for it.
26:02It's fun because when you do the feralness in the comments, you posted and made my life.
26:08I know.
26:08Oh my God.
26:09My skin is cleared up because you posted.
26:11It's like, I mean, your fans are, they are very passionate.
26:16They're just like my girls.
26:18Like we just all, I feel like we're all friends.
26:20Like whenever even I see a wildflower case in public, I'm very like, you're cool.
26:25Well, and the best part to me is like, whenever I see someone with one, they're always cool.
26:30They're always pretty.
26:31They're always cool.
26:32And I'm just like, you like me?
26:35Like, this is so cool.
26:37Like, I just feel so lucky that I am able to meet so many people and meet so many cute
26:43people and like, it just makes me so happy that we all can make fun things and like fun things.
26:50Well, that's why you're fun because you, you're really genuinely so enthused by fashion
26:55and your community and everything that it's able to bring you.
26:58Like, I like watching your videos when you're at a show.
27:01You're like, oh my God.
27:03Like, you'll be there with the phone.
27:04Like, oh my God, this is great.
27:06Like following the model down the runway or you go to all the after parties and you're
27:10like, this is great.
27:11And also it doesn't go over your head.
27:13You're not jaded.
27:14You'll be in a beautiful hotel room.
27:16You're like, this is so great.
27:17Oh, it's so crazy.
27:19I love it.
27:20I just, it'll never set in that like, I get to do that.
27:23And that like, I don't know, I never left the country until I was like 18 years old.
27:29Like I was very, just that's not how my family, like we didn't have the money to go and do
27:37that, but we, so I just am so grateful that I get to do all this stuff and it's so fun
27:42for me.
27:43Like the first show I ever went to, I can't remember if it's the first show that I flew
27:49to or the first show I went to, cause there was a YSL show in Malibu and that was one of
27:53the first ones that I went to.
27:55And then I got to go to, um, the Louis Vuitton show at, uh, the airport.
28:01What's that airport?
28:01Uh, JFK.
28:03It was the TWP.
28:04The TWA.
28:05The TWA airport.
28:07Yeah.
28:07Yeah.
28:07Yeah.
28:08I was the last one to get there because we were like on a, a sprinter that was like taking
28:13too long and we were running in and I sat not in my seat and I was like so stressed out
28:17and I was so overwhelmed.
28:18But even that experience, like I met two girls that I'm still really close friends with to
28:24this day and, um, Ami Song was there who I've like loved forever.
28:30Cause I loved bloggers too growing up.
28:32Yeah.
28:32And she kind of was just so warm and welcoming to me and was like introduced me to so many
28:38people and it made me feel less intimidated.
28:41Yeah.
28:41And I don't know.
28:43I was like, Oh, people are kind of nice.
28:45Of course you meet like snotty people here and there, but that doesn't really bother me.
28:49Honestly.
28:49I'm just kind of like, that's how you want to live your life.
28:52I love that for you.
28:54Go for it.
28:55I'm going to do my own thing.
28:56Like, I don't think that the way other people act has to do with me necessarily.
29:01That's true.
29:02It's a very good lesson.
29:03I just liked, I'm like just happy to be there all the time.
29:07It's great.
29:07You love a good girl who's happy to be there.
29:10Yeah.
29:10Um, what is something you dream of?
29:13I know you got a good one.
29:15A dream by, a dream by.
29:18Everything.
29:19I really, give us a top three.
29:22Well, right now I'm like really hyper fixated on the Prada fairy collection.
29:27It's like 2008 spring.
29:30Yes.
29:31I've started, I wore it in a like editorial that I did with my friends, Amelia and Shiva
29:38and Yasmeen.
29:40And we all did like this really, it was like the best day ever, honestly.
29:43And I wore a piece from that collection and I was like, I'm going to own everything from
29:49this collection that I can find.
29:51So I found the bag.
29:53It's like a bowling bag and it has fairies.
29:55The artist is, I think James Jean is how you say his name.
29:58Yeah.
29:58And, uh, I just want to own as much as I can.
30:02It brings me so much joy that just seeing all those cute fairies on everything.
30:07Well, she's the best because it's like, it's like dress up and it's fantastical and like
30:12magical, but it's still, you still feel together.
30:15Prada is like such a unicorn of a brand because it's so hard to do that.
30:20Yeah.
30:21One piece can be styled so many ways with Prada that I don't know.
30:23I just feel like it's a good investment brand to buy from.
30:26Yeah.
30:26100%.
30:27Okay.
30:28Prada fairy.
30:28Anything else?
30:29Prada fairy.
30:29Um, I'm really into vintage Moschino right now.
30:34I just bought in like peace sign.
30:36I just bought a vest with a peace sign on the back.
30:39That's really cute.
30:40I find something new to hyperfixate on every single week.
30:43So once I got that Moschino vest, I was like, okay, got that.
30:49Yeah.
30:50Yeah.
30:51Yeah.
30:51I don't know.
30:52I really, oh, I, I'm remembering.
30:54Okay.
30:55There's this Moschino flame dress from, I think it's like 2017.
31:00Yeah.
31:00It's baby blue.
31:02It's like sheer silk and it has flames at the bottom of it.
31:06I have a dress from that collection.
31:09Oh my God.
31:09I love it so much.
31:10I have a dress from that collection.
31:12That's, it looks like a million different patches and it's just printed on this like sheer silk.
31:16It's so beautiful.
31:18I will never get rid of it.
31:19I got it from Wasteland for like a hundred bucks.
31:21Yeah.
31:21I was like, no one knows.
31:23Nice work.
31:23But funny enough.
31:24I need to go to this Wasteland.
31:25I will shop anywhere.
31:26Like there's always things.
31:28But I posted in that dress, the one that I got from Wasteland and my friend Mark, who's
31:34a stylist was like, did you just buy this at Wasteland?
31:36And I was like, yeah.
31:37And he's like, I dropped it off.
31:39And he said it was like Irina Shayk's dress or something.
31:42Oh my goodness.
31:43And I was like, nice.
31:45Yeah.
31:46That's good.
31:47That's good provenance.
31:48I feel like we are now single-handedly will watch like the rise of like certain eras of Moschino
31:54on the real, real after this airs.
31:56Like you're just setting these things off.
31:59I just love timeless clothes with a fun, something fun about it.
32:04Like I just, like even their belts with the hearts.
32:07Like I just think it's so, that adds personality to like a normal.
32:11Yeah.
32:12I don't know.
32:12It's kitschy and fun.
32:14And like, it's like much, it's like grown up much.
32:17Totally.
32:17You know, like the Chanel, like everything Chanel is just basically grown up much.
32:21Totally.
32:22When you see that double C, you're like, you need it.
32:26Devon, we're almost at the end of the podcast, but we can't let you leave without you letting
32:31us know what is your latest goodbye?
32:33You, you, you shop a lot.
32:36So there could be multiples.
32:37Um, I just bought heart-shaped Moschino red glasses on first dibs and I got a lovely tariff
32:47add-on for that.
32:49I love them too much to have to take it.
32:53Yeah.
32:54Tariffs be damned.
32:55They had to be yours.
32:56Yeah.
32:57I'll post those soon.
32:58I'm very excited about that.
33:00Nice.
33:00Yeah.
33:01Be damned tariffs.
33:02You won't stop us.
33:04That's an amazing place to end.
33:06Devon, thank you so much.
33:08I feel like you are, again, yeah, the perfect embodiment of what this podcast is about, which
33:13is being yourself, enjoying fashion, you know, not taking it too seriously, but also taking
33:19it seriously.
33:21We can do both.
33:22And Martin, what say you and your Celine?
33:25I know, Martin took a nap, but he's back.
33:28Yeah.
33:28Show us, show us your outfit.
33:30Show your beauty.
33:31Martin is wearing, uh.
33:33Martin is wearing a Celine by Hedy Slimane collar with some gold studs.
33:41It is brown and it has a beautiful gold Celine logo.
33:45The collar is gorgeous.
33:47Martin is the most fashionable dog we, we've ever seen.
33:50And Devon, thank you so much for being a guest on Harper's Bazaars.
33:54So goodbye.
33:55Goodbye.
33:55Thank you for having me.
33:56Goodbye.
33:56Bye.
