00:01Welcome to the thrilling heart of the Tigers postseason pursuit. The Tigers are primed for

00:06action, tense, poised and ready to show the talent Detroit fans saw in the first half of the regular

00:11season. The team calls this state being one click away. It only takes a single fortunate bounce,

00:17a well-timed hit, or a spectacular play for them to regain their momentum. Spencer Torkelson put

00:23it best. I believe our moment is approaching, especially in critical situations. We may not

00:28know exactly what that click is, but we are on the verge of discovering it. In the bottom of the

00:349th during their 8-4 defeat in Game 3 of the ALDS, there were flashes of that click, but it ultimately

00:41fell short. The Tigers are running out of chances to capitalize on their potential. The Mariners lead

00:46the best of 5 series 2-1, and as the Tigers turn to Casey Mize for Wednesday's start, they're counting

00:51on him to help salvage their season after injuries sidelined him for much of the year. On the 2024

00:57postseason roster, Mize stands out as one of the few Tigers without playoff experience. He made his

01:03postseason debut October 1st, starting three innings against Cleveland in the AL wildcard series,

01:10allowing just a solo home run. Now Mize has a chance to establish himself and influence the outcome,

01:17especially after watching from the sidelines last year. If he performs, he could lead the team back to

01:22Seattle for a decisive Game 5. If not, the Tigers may have to wait until next year. Mize said,

01:29I play to win. That's what I care about the most. I love to prepare and compete, enjoy time with my

01:35teammates, travel, and engage in all these activities, but winning is my top priority.

01:40So if there's a chance to save the season, that's about as good as it gets for me, you know?

01:44In 2025, Mize faced the Mariners twice with mixed results. On April 1st, he pitched 5 and 2-3 scoreless

01:52innings, striking out 6 and allowing just 1 hit to the first batter he faced. But in July at Comerica

01:59Park, he was pulled after giving up 6 runs in 3 innings during a 15-7 loss. This time, Mize has extra

02:06rest, as his start was pushed back after Jack Flaherty pitched Game 3. The Tigers plan to use Troy

02:12Melton, a hybrid pitcher, to follow Mize for added support. The defending AL Cy Young winner,

02:18Tarek Skubal, is expected to pitch a potential Game 5 in Suns, Reigns, in Suns and Tobin 5. But the

02:25Tigers must get there first. The Mize-Melton combo is expected to give Detroit a strong chance to

02:30extend the series. Melton, once the Tigers' No. 12 prospect, debuted July 23rd and has made 16 appearances

02:36including 4 starts. After a tough relief outing in Cleveland, Melton bounced back in Seattle starting

02:42Game 1 of the ALDS and allowing just one run, a home run by Julio Rodriguez, while striking out 4

02:47over 4 innings. Mize said, Being called upon to compete and be your best in times of need is like

02:55every athlete's dream. Remember, this is the same team that energized Detroit last September.

03:01On August 10th, they were 8 games below .500, with just a 0.2% chance of making the postseason.
