George Bennett gives his take as Walsall suffer a narrow EFL Trophy defeat to Northampton.
Transcript
00:01Hi Sadler's fans, I'm inside the Bescott where Walsall have just fallen to a 1-0 defeat against the 1 side Northampton Town in the EFL Trophy.
00:11And that means that the Cobblers create a three-point cushion at the top of Group K, leaving the Sadlers in second spot ahead of their final game against Chelsea under-21s.
00:24Mark Sadler made 10 changes from the team, which began their 2-1 victory over Bristol Rovers in League 2 on Saturday.
00:33With only Evan Weir keeping his place, there were first starts for the club for Judik Kike and Rika Richards.
00:44And yeah, I mean, it was a rather uneventful affair throughout.
00:48But to be honest, the closest Walsall came was through Jamie Jealous when he flicked ahead of wide of the right-hand post from Rico Brown's cross.
00:57Albert Odoma did force the Northampton goalkeeper into action after the break.
01:04Pickpocketed Northampton defender on the edge of the box and it was saved by the trailing legs of Fitz Simons.
01:10But Northampton left it late and it was Kamari Swire left with a bit of space, really, on the edge of the penalty area.
01:20Managed to bend a sumptuous effort into the far top corner to consign Walsall to defeat.
01:28Just a couple of quick updates from Matt Sadler's post-match press conference.
01:33Obviously, Harrison Burke and Daniel Carnot went off in the win over Bristol Rovers on the weekend.
01:39And Sadler said that the pair will be assessed as the week goes on.
01:44So, you know, very much a case of wait and see ahead of the weekend as Walsall travel to Crawley Town.
01:52Good to see Jamie Jealous back involved for his first start in over a month.
01:57But yeah, it's ended 1-0 to Northampton here.
02:02And yeah, Walsall are next in action against Crawley on the weekend.
