00:37Number 10.
00:38And So It Begins
00:39Throughout the premiere of this action thriller,
00:42Sidney Bristow is dealt one head-spinning revelation after another.
00:45First, she discovers that her fiancé was murdered by the CIA for learning her secret.
00:49You killed the man I love him.
00:53No, Agent Bristow.
00:55You didn't.
00:56Then, it's revealed that she doesn't work for the CIA.
00:59Her organization is actually an enemy of the U.S. government.
01:03Oh, and her estranged father is part of this group as well.
01:06So you're saying I'm working for the enemy?
01:10And that you are the enemy?
01:12That's already a lot of twists for a single episode.
01:15In what became a signature move for this series, there's one more unforgettable revelation.
01:20In the episode's final moment, Sidney's father reveals that, like her, he is also a double agent for the CIA.
01:27Together, they're going to work to bring down SD6 from the inside.
01:31How do I know what you're telling me is the truth?
01:34I guess we'll just have to learn to trust each other.
01:41Number 9.
01:42Fake Francie Fight.
01:43The audience knew long before Sidney that her roommate Francie had been killed and replaced by an imposter.
01:49She discovered the horrifying truth while sitting on the couch with the murderous doppelganger.
01:53This is going to sound insane, but I just found prophesium in the bathroom, and I think that, I think that, uh, okay, just think about it.
02:03I think that the double is Francie.
02:05Trying to remain calm, Sidney tricked fake Francie into revealing herself.
02:10She offered her coffee ice cream, knowing her real roommate hated it.
02:14Want some?
02:18Sure.
02:18With her worst fears confirmed, Sidney tried to nonchalantly retrieve her gun from the bedroom.
02:24What followed was a thrilling fight between two highly trained female agents.
02:29I just remembered.
02:32Francie doesn't like coffee ice cream.
02:35No, she doesn't.
02:36Along with the excellent choreography, the fight made creative use of the space and props.
02:41Throughout the prolonged battle, it's also clear that Sidney's rage was fueled by the devastating loss of her best friend.
02:48Oh!
02:59Number 8.
03:00A dramatic exit.
03:02Sidney continually struggled to trust her mother.
03:05It's not easy to put your faith in a former KGB agent who faked her life as well as her death.
03:10You're talking about her as though you can trust a word she says.
03:13Which we know we can't, so maybe we could have played her.
03:15Add to it that she opposed Sidney as much as she helped her, and it's understandable.
03:20Sidney, I know our relationship is complicated, but I'm your mother.
03:25I have to believe that would be the case under any circumstance.
03:29In their final moment of season two, Irina is cornered on the roof of a building, perhaps considering a fatal jump.
03:36She gives Sidney a vital piece of information, tells her she loves her, and flings herself off.
03:42It's you and the purpose of Sidney, not me.
03:45For a brief moment, the audience is left to wonder if the scheming mother will survive.
03:49Then it's revealed that Irina is attached to a bungee cord.
03:53She swings into the building to escape, using a method that would make John McClane proud.
03:58Number 7.
03:59Will's Revelation.
04:01After Sidney's fiancé dies for learning her secret, she is careful to keep her friends in the dark about her agent status.
04:07I need you to accept what I've already told you.
04:08You haven't told me anything.
04:10I've lost my mind a little.
04:11As a reporter, Will is continually asking questions and poking at the edges of her secrets.
04:16Sidney is forced to reveal her identity when Will is taken hostage, and it's a great moment.
04:21She comes in sporting a hot pink wig and flying kicks.
04:24Will's reaction when he sees her face is priceless.
04:27It's both a payoff that the fans have been waiting for, and another key moment for Sidney.
04:34She now has a friend who can support her in her double life.
04:37She also has to protect him the way she couldn't protect her fiancé.
04:41I don't love you because of what you do.
04:44And what you don't do.
04:47I just love you.
04:49Number 6.
04:50I would have waited.
04:51The romance between Sidney Bristow and Michael Vaughn was a core aspect of the first and second seasons.
04:56When Sidney disappears for two years, Vaughn moves on and gets married.
05:00This is, um...
05:02Gonna take me a while.
05:06It's hard for the fans to not be angry at his character.
05:09When Sidney finally recovers her strong sense of self,
05:12the indomitable agent tells Vaughn a truth he doesn't want to hear.
05:16She would have waited for him and done whatever was necessary to find him.
05:20The quiet intensity of her speech demonstrates soundly why Jennifer Garner previously won a Golden Globe Award for this character.
05:28If it had been me...
05:29I would have waited.
05:33Don't you love it when a character tells another exactly what you wish you could?
05:37And now I realize...
05:39What...
05:42An absolute waste that would have been.
05:46Number 5.
05:47The Rombardi Mystery.
05:48The mystery of Rombardi and his creations was the overarching plotline that kept the show full of mysteries and missions.
05:55So they're handing over Rombardi's manuscript in Tunisia.
05:57Their mission is to intercept the book and bring it back home.
06:00The CIA was continually trying to get the information and artifacts before SD6.
06:05When Sidney steals a blank page from Rombardi's portfolio,
06:08the CIA is able to reveal its secrets with a special liquid.
06:12Well, CIA site text says that of the few Rombardi documents they've recovered,
06:15the 47th page is always particularly significant.
06:18This blank page was number 47.
06:20In a shocking twist,
06:21the 15th century document had the sketch of a very recognizable face.
06:26I have the page with me and I'd like you to see it.
06:30Okay.
06:30This show loved ending an episode with the fans full of questions.
06:35Why is Sidney's face on that page?
06:38What could it possibly mean?
06:40Back then, fans had to wait a whole week to find out.
06:43Number 4.
06:44A revelation and a crash.
06:47Alias loved to end a season with a cliffhanger nobody saw coming.
06:51This one starts with a rare moment of peace.
06:53Sidney and Vaughn are finally engaged.
06:55They're on their way to a romantic weekend in Santa Barbara.
06:58What if we just blow off the big wedding thing?
07:01What if we just do it on the beach?
07:04The beach?
07:05Suddenly, Vaughn declares he doesn't want to have any more secrets from his future wife.
07:09I love you, Sid.
07:11That's why I need to tell you something.
07:12He implies that he might be considered a bad guy.
07:15Vaughn, what are you telling me?
07:18Furthermore, his name isn't Michael Vaughn.
07:21What?
07:22We'd never had a hint that Vaughn was a double agent,
07:25secret doppelganger, or some other unknown villain.
07:27Before he can reveal the truth, a car crashes into them and the screen cuts to black.
07:33Sidney and the fans would be left in the dark until season 5.
07:37Number 3.
07:38Time Jump.
07:39Poor Sidney never seemed to get a break.
07:41By the end of season 2, she had dealt with the betrayal of her mother
07:44and the possible death of two of her best friends.
07:47What happened to Will to Francie?
07:49Are they dead?
07:49After the fight where she takes out the Francie doppelganger,
07:52things look to be finally resolved.
07:54Maybe she could take a breather and work on her relationship with Agent Vaughn.
07:58Sadly, the next moment, Sidney wakes up across the world with no idea how she got there.
08:04When Vaughn arrives to explain, he reveals that she's been missing for two years.
08:08We thought you were dead.
08:10To make matters worse, he's married now.
08:13Vaughn.
08:13Why are you wearing that ring?
08:19Fans gasped at this horrifying revelation that set up plenty of further adventures for Sidney in season 3.
08:25Number 2.
08:26A Moment of Victory.
08:28Some shows would have kept their main character as a double agent for as long as possible.
08:32So, it was both surprising and gratifying when Alias successfully took down SD6 in the middle of the second season.
08:39Sir, all teams in position.
08:44Let's move in.
08:45It was a nerve-wracking lead-up, as the fans wondered who would survive the much-anticipated attack.
08:50The action sequences throughout the building were satisfyingly fast-paced and frenetic.
08:55We have two men down at SD4.
08:57Reed gets killed at SD.
08:59When the mission was declared victorious, Sidney and Vaughn only had eyes for each other.
09:03Their simmering romance was no longer forbidden.
09:06And, and so, they sealed it with a kiss.
09:09Truly victorious moments were rare in this twist-loving show.
09:13So, it was important to appreciate them while they lasted.
09:16Guys, see what I said?
09:17Asses.
09:20Okay.
09:21Before we unveil our top pick, here are some honorable mentions.
09:25Tech Geek to the Rescue.
09:26Sidney is buried alive, and Marshall finally gets to be the hero.
09:30Sid?
09:31You okay?
09:32You okay?
09:35Marshall?
09:36Yeah.
09:37Happily Ever After?
09:39An ending that rewards the main characters, but leaves a tantalizing teaser.
09:43Hey, what have you been doing back there?
09:45Nothing, Mom.
09:45Train Fight.
09:47A brilliantly choreographed fight on a moving train.
09:54The Proposal.
09:56Vaughn finally pops the question.
09:58Sidney Bristow, will you marry me?

10:18Number 1.
10:21It was your mother.
10:22For most of her life, Sidney believed her mother died in a car accident when she was
10:26young.
10:27So, I suppose in a way, your mother's accident was my fault, since the FBI was after me.
10:37Later, she was shocked to learn that her mother was a KGB agent who married Jack to steal secrets.
10:43But Sidney, I was not that agent.
10:50Your mother was.
10:51Throughout the first season, Sidney pursued information about her mother and her family's
10:55past.
10:56She was also chasing the leader of a rogue group bent on taking down SD6.
11:01He was referred to only as The Man, and soon, Sidney was captured and left to face him alone.
11:07As the last minutes counted down on the season finale, the identity of her elusive enemy was
11:12revealed.
11:13The Man was Sidney's not-so-dead mother.
11:16Twists like this one definitely kept fans coming back for more.
