Staffordshire County Council's gritters have bee spotted on the streets as they prepare for the coming cold season
Transcript
00:00Another year.
00:04I'm Sean, I've worked here for now for 15, 16 years.
00:07We've been out testing all the gritters to making sure everything's okay
00:11when the bad weather does come, so we know that everything's going to be alright for us to do our job.
00:16We had the health and safety this morning, checking all the laws and regulations
00:21and making sure everything's okay for what we're doing and when we're out and about with the wagons.
00:26Well, we have to load the gritters up, take them out, we've all got our own routes,
00:30finish all your route, come back to the yard.
00:32Sometimes, if the weather's still bad, you go out again and do the same
00:35and it's just to keep everybody safe on the roads.
00:38When we do get in the lorries, we have to do a full check, a 10-minute check,
00:43to check everything's okay, all the bulbs, all the lights are working, everything's okay on,
00:48so everything works while we're out and about.
00:51The grit bins, they've all been filled up and everything will be good
00:54so people can help themselves putting it across the footpaths if needs be,
00:59if there's roads where we can't get the gritters down.
01:01Through the winter, we do work nights from October through to April.
01:06We're on permanent nights and every day we get a message whether there's no action
01:11or whether we need to be out gritting and they give us what time to start
01:14and we're all here ready for that then.
01:16Once everything's done, we make sure everything's okay and then at least we know we can get here to work
01:22and get home back from work because we've put all the grit down on the road
01:25so it makes it safer for everybody who's out and about.
