00:00Welcome to the World Peace Game. I'm very, very sorry, but you're going to have to have fun today.
00:16No! I know. I know. I know. The World Peace Game is a political science simulation,
00:26and it's essentially a gigantic plexiglass structure, four feet or a meter on each side or so,
00:33and then about the same height of four planes of plexiglass, clear glass, and thousands of game pieces on each of the levels,
00:43undersea level, ground and sea level, an aircraft level with clouds, big puffs of cotton, and an outer space level.
00:49And I have 30 students, 25, 30 students, around this structure, and I ask them to be in four countries.
00:57Each country has a cabinet, three or four students. There's a World Bank, a United Nations, even arms dealers.
01:03And I give them 50 interlocking problems involving all the problems of the real world,
01:09and they are given the task of solving these problems in the worst scenario possible,
01:14and they are asked to do it without combat if possible.
01:17And now it's his!
01:21And he can do anything with it!
01:23Yeah!
01:24Come with me!
01:26Yes! Thank you!
01:30Wait, we're not attacking you!
01:31We're not attacking you!
01:33If you don't, you make that sound.
01:35A friend introduced me to Chris Farina.
01:39Chris Farina is a young filmmaker in my city.
01:41He'd made a couple of films before this,
01:44and he proposed the idea of making a film about it.
01:47So he made the film over one semester, over about eight, ten weeks.
01:51And we never thought it would be something that would be seen in Norway, in all these places.
01:56But it has gone far beyond anything either one of us imagined.
02:00We've never had a negative complaint, I've not heard any, and the students talk about it even 20, 30 years later.
02:17I hear from some of them that they still remember this, and it has made a difference for them.
02:22So it's very rewarding.
02:23We won! We won! We won! We won! We won! We won!
02:29We won! We won! We won! We won! We won! We won! We won! We won! We won! We won!
02:36You
