00:00What's up everybody, my name's Trey and welcome back to another video.
00:04And if you are somebody who's been thinking about or pondering about starting a podcast,
00:11look no further because this video is going to have all the information you need to start
00:15a successful podcast because that's the most important part.
00:18You don't want to start a podcast and it not work.
00:20You want to start a podcast and it be successful.
00:23So I'm going to go over the five steps that you're going to need to make sure you get done
00:27to have a successful podcast.
00:28So the first thing that you're going to want to do is identify your topic, your niche
00:33and come up with your podcast name because trust me, they all are very important and they
00:39all work together.
00:40I know there's three different things, but it's important that you get all of these aligned
00:44for the success of your podcast.
00:47So when it comes to your topic or niche, niche, niche, niche, niche, I don't, I don't really
00:53know how it's said.
00:54How do you say it?
00:55Leave a comment in the comment section down below.
00:56How do you say niche or is it niche?
00:58Do you niche down or do you niche down?
01:01I'm going to leave a comment and see how you say it because I'm still at end.
01:03Sometimes I go back and forth when I, depending on how I feel, I guess.
01:07But when it comes to your topic of your podcast, what exactly are you going to talk about?
01:11What are you interested in?
01:12What information do you want to share to the public?
01:16Not only that, but you want to make sure you also niche down when it comes to what topic
01:22you're talking about, because if you want to talk about sports, for instance, that's great.
01:27Awesome.
01:28But it's going to be really hard for your podcast to be successful against the other hundreds
01:33of, if not thousands, of podcasts that talk about sports.
01:38Maybe you're somebody that's interested in basketball.
01:41Okay, cool.
01:41Well, a sub-niche of sports is basketball.
01:45Now, what's a sub-niche of basketball?
01:47Maybe it's D3 basketball.
01:49Is it D1 basketball?
01:51Is it EuroLeague basketball?
01:52Is it the NBA?
01:53Is it a developmental league basketball?
01:56There's so many different options that you can go to niche down and really find a place
02:02in which people are wanting information, but people aren't necessarily creating content.
02:07And that's where you come in.
02:08But now that you've found your niche in this example being, let's say, D3 basketball, you
02:15want to make sure that the name of your channel makes sense with the topic that you're going
02:21to be talking about on your podcast.
02:23If you have a channel that says, I love dogs, and your podcast is all about D3 basketball,
02:30it just doesn't align correctly to your listener.
02:33It will confuse them, and it just does not work.
02:35So you want to make sure you're picking a niche, a topic, and a name that all correlate
02:39together.
02:40If this example, so the D3 podcast would be a great name for a podcast that only really
02:46reviews and talks about D3 basketball.
02:49Injury updates, game updates, game breakdowns, interviews with coaches, that type of stuff
02:55would be a great name for a podcast because, number one, when people see the name, they
02:59know exactly what you're talking about.
03:01D3 basketball.
03:02So when they go to the channel, not only are they expecting to see podcasts on D3 basketball,
03:08but they're excited to see it because that's exactly what they want.
03:12Now, the next thing, after you pick your topic, your niche, and the name of your podcast, you're
03:17going to have to have some channel art for your podcast.
03:20And this can be made relatively easily.
03:22If you have any type of graphic design skills, you can do it completely for free in Canva.
03:27If not, you can use freelance websites like Upwork or Fiverr where you can pay somebody
03:32as little as $5 to actually make you a podcast artwork that can really show off the vibe of
03:40your podcast.
03:41The next thing that we're going to look at comes to distribution sites.
03:44So how exactly are you going to get your podcast, which you spent so much time and love and effort
03:49creating, and how are you going to disforce that to people who actually want to hear it?
03:54Well, that's exactly what distribution sites do.
03:56So this distribution site allows you to upload your podcast to it, and then it's going to
04:01upload it to places where your podcast can actually be listened to, whether it be Spotify,
04:06Apple Music, Google Podcasts, and a ton of other places where people will actually want
04:11to listen to your stuff.
04:12Just a few really good distribution sites are actually Transistor, Buzzsprout, and PodCastle,
04:20as all of these work really well.
04:22And it really just depends on how you want your back end to feel when it comes to uploading
04:26your podcast to multiple other sites.
04:28And all of these sites let you connect what's called an RSS feed to these different podcast
04:34listening platforms, which is essentially you just uploading a link that has all the information
04:38that is going to be distributed to all the other sites about your podcast specifically.
04:42Like your episode title, release dates, your channel art design for the podcast episode,
04:48all of that good stuff all in one place.
04:51So in a nutshell, what a distribution site is, basically one site that allows you to upload
04:55your podcast to it, and then it will get redistributed to other sites that allow your podcast to be
05:02uploaded on it without you having to go to each individual site and uploading your podcast.
05:06So it definitely takes account, you're going to save a lot of time, and it's going to save
05:10you a lot of effort actually doing a distribution site.
05:13So I would highly, highly recommend.
05:15Now, the next thing that we're really going to have to dial in when it comes to your setup
05:18for your podcast is your equipment.
05:21So what camera are you using, what microphone are you using, what lights are you using,
05:25what backdrop are you using, as those things are really important when it comes to the quality
05:29of your podcast.
05:30So the first thing that we're actually going to look at are microphones.
05:33I'm going to have a link in the description.
05:35If you want to go click on it, it can give you a review of what I think is the best microphone.
05:39But the one that I personally use and what I think is actually the best is the DJI microphone.
05:45Basically, this is a wireless microphone that you can connect to your phone, you can connect
05:49to your camera, and you can not only have amazing sound quality, but you can also have
05:57it wirelessly.
05:58If you don't want your mic to be shown, so you can kind of have a more personal conversation
06:02with whoever you're actually on the podcast with, you can definitely do that.
06:06So I highly recommend, check out the link in the description, because this microphone
06:09is amazing, and you will not be disappointed.
06:12Now, after you figure out what kind of mic you're actually going to use for your podcast,
06:17I would highly, highly recommend that you also record your podcast.
06:21As more and more consumers of podcasts say that they want the visual portion of the podcast,
06:28so not just a podcast, they want to be able to watch a video of the podcast, so they can
06:32hear you, they can see you, and they can really get that personal touch on what exactly you're
06:35talking about.
06:36If you're somebody that's just starting out when it comes to starting a podcast and a
06:41video podcast at that, look no further than your phone.
06:45Your phone has an amazing camera on the back of it, so just hit record and start your podcast.
06:49Not only do you have amazing sound quality because of the mic that you got from my description
06:53down below, but you also have amazing video because, let's be honest, phones now have
06:59better cameras on them than some actual cameras.
07:03But if you're saying no, that's not enough for me, I know my phone is good, but it's
07:08definitely not what I want to use for my podcast, I completely understand.
07:11I also am using my phone right now to record this episode, but I also have my Canon 1500 that
07:18I absolutely love, and I'll leave a link to that also in the description.
07:21If you are looking for a camera specifically dedicated to your podcast or to make videos,
07:26I would highly recommend that camera because not only does it have some amazing quality
07:31when it comes to not only pictures but videos, it also has a screen that comes out to the
07:35side so you can make sure that you're always centering your video, which will help you out
07:40a ton.
07:42I had a really hard time starting out.
07:46I would move to the left, I would move to the right, maybe I would sit back in my chair,
07:50and then I was no longer in the center of my video, and because I couldn't see it, I
07:54had no idea how much or how little I was actually moving.
07:58So the Canon camera that has a swivel out screen on it helps a lot, just to make sure
08:04that you're in frame and your shots always look good.
08:06And then now, so you have your camera when it comes to the visual portion of your podcast,
08:11you have your microphone for your audio.
08:13You don't necessarily need light.
08:14If you have light, cool.
08:16If you just have a window, you could simply open that, or you can just turn the lights
08:19on that are in your room and make it really simple.
08:22They just have to be able to see you.
08:23It doesn't have to be perfect lighting.
08:24You're not having to spend tens of thousands of dollars or anything like that to get this
08:28podcast off the ground, as we want to make this as simple as possible for you to get
08:31started and really get those listeners coming in.
08:34So you have your name, your niche, and your topic.
08:38The second part that we went over was the distribution of your actual podcast.
08:43So which site are you going to be able to upload it on and kind of distribute it off
08:47of there?
08:47Third, we went over the equipment.
08:49So is you going to record with your phone?
08:50Are you going to use your camera?
08:51Are you going to use different microphones to make sure that your sound quality and your
08:54visuals are good?
08:55Next, we are going to talk about what type of podcast are you actually going to make?
09:00Are you going to have a podcast where it's more relaxed, where you're sitting on the
09:04couch, where you are interviewing somebody in person?
09:06Are you going to be interviewing people on the internet?
09:08So maybe over Zoom or Google Meet?
09:10Or are you going to have a podcast that's more free-flowing and you can do it on a subway,
09:15you can do it in a cab, where you can do it on the outside of the street, where you're
09:18just interviewing random people?
09:20You just have to figure out what exactly you want the environment of your podcast to be
09:24like.
09:25And that's something I unfortunately cannot help you with, because that's all personal.
09:29As you see, I'm more of a solo podcaster in terms of this video that I'm making now.
09:34It's just me in my room by myself talking to the camera, making sure that I can portray
09:37what is actually going on and what needs to be communicated in a way that I think makes
09:43sense.
09:43So for me, this was the easiest way for me to do that.
09:45You, however, might have a podcast host.
09:49So there might be more than one person.
09:50So maybe you have to figure out what exactly that layout looks like.
09:54But try a few different things.
09:55Remember, this is all about creativity.
09:57You can have as much fun as you can with this.
10:00Maybe one day you have it on the couch.
10:02Maybe the next day, it's a seat.
10:04Maybe next day, it's while you're walking to the beach.
10:07You just want to try a few things and really see what really feels best to you.
10:11Now, what you're going to do after you figure out where exactly you want to have your podcast
10:14at, like I said, solo, on the couch, traveling around.
10:17You have your phone or you have your camera.
10:19You have your microphone.
10:21The next step is just simply hitting the record button.
10:23And you want to make sure that you're starting your podcast with more than one episode.
10:27And I know that sounds really weird.
10:28And yes, it is a little bit more work.
10:30But trust me, it's going to be important that you actually do so.
10:33So you want to make sure when you're starting your podcast, you have at least a handful
10:36of podcasts actually filmed first.
10:39So you can make sure that you have a catalog of podcasts that people can listen to.
10:43If it's a brand new channel and somebody comes to you and they listen to your first podcast
10:47and they absolutely love everything that you have to say, you want to make sure that you
10:51give them more podcasts to actually listen to.
10:54Not only that, but 99% of podcasts fail if they release fewer than three episodes.
11:00So you can really set yourself up for success if you just simply make more than three episodes
11:06and release them as soon as you start your podcast.
11:09You're already ahead of 99% of people just by making four episodes.
11:14Now, the next thing that you're going to want to look at when it comes to your podcast is
11:17the editing of your podcast.
11:20Are you somebody that's going to want to do completely raw, unedited podcasts?
11:23Most times, you want to take out any imperfections in your video.
11:28For instance,
11:31did you feel how just unsettling it was to sit in that silence?
11:38When you have silences, when you have interruptions in your actual podcast,
11:42if you have some mess-ups when it comes to you tripping over your words,
11:44you want to make sure you edit those out just so you can give a clean experience
11:47to somebody that's listening to your actual podcast.
11:50Now, the next thing you're going to want to do is simply publish your podcast
11:54because you took all this time setting up your camera, setting up your phone,
11:58setting up your microphone, you figured out the location, lights.
12:01All you have to do is hit record, which you already did.
12:05And you edited the video, which wasn't really that hard.
12:08Now, you just have to make sure you post it.
12:10And you want to give each podcast its own title, its own description.
12:14You want to make each podcast feel if it's its unique own experience.
12:19Not only are you listeners going to love it,
12:21but it's definitely going to help you rank and get more listeners to your actual podcast.
12:26One of the best ways that I found to actually promote a podcast
12:28is not by simply making more episodes of the podcast.
12:33It's actually by creating other social media content around the podcast.
12:38For instance, so if you're somebody that is actually recording the visual version of your podcast,
12:43you can take that video version, you can edit that up into shorts,
12:47and then you can post those shorts on different social media platforms like TikTok, Instagram, Rumble, Odyssey, YouTube Shorts.
12:54And you're going to get a ton of more listeners and engagement based on that visual content
13:00because that's what people most of the times are consuming when it comes to their social media.
13:07Absolute doom scrolling that it seems like we all kind of get stuck in sometimes.
13:10And after that, well, you're off to the races.
13:14You know everything that you have to do to actually create your podcast.
13:17You understand what the lighting needs to look like, which camera or phone you're using,
13:21which microphone you're using to get the best sound quality for your episode.
13:24And you really just have to continue to do that.
13:26And you have to continue to be consistent doing that.
13:30And I promise you that you'll see success with your podcast.
13:33And let me give you one other additional tip when it comes to how to grow a successful podcast.
13:40And that's making sure that you're actually reviewing your podcast episodes.
13:44I know a lot of times, especially initially, I would make a podcast and I would listen to it while I'm actually editing the video.
13:52But after I posted it, I wouldn't go back and see the comments on it.
13:56I wouldn't look at what the stats are on it.
13:59I was just so happy and so excited to get the podcast out, edit it in a way that I think made sense,
14:04that I kind of didn't look at it anymore.
14:06But I would highly recommend for you to review your podcast or the content that you post to see what's working, what's not working.
14:15Maybe people in the comment section say you really need to change your lighting or you need to change your scenery.
14:22You want to make sure that you're tailoring your content to the people who are actually watching it.
14:26So if every single person in your comment section says,
14:29hey, you really need to make sure that you switch your mic because it's a little bit scratchy,
14:32you want to make sure that you're appealing to that audience because if they're listening to your podcast,
14:37they obviously want you to grow and they're only going to tell you things that are really going to help you out.
14:40And that, my friends, is exactly how you are going to start a podcast this year.
14:45And not only start a podcast, but absolutely dominate the podcast industry that you are putting yourself in.
14:53I know you're going to have an amazing time.
14:55You're going to have a fun journey along the way, making content that you love to make,
14:59as well as finding your real audience who supports you and wants to hear everything that you have to say.
15:06But if you did enjoy this content, make sure that you hit the subscribe button and notification bell to be notified every time I post a video.
15:12And leave a comment in the comment section down below.
15:14Are you somebody that currently has a podcast?
15:17Or are you somebody that's brand new and you still are just so excited and you're so happy to get the process going?
15:24Because we would love to hear, you know, what are you going to be making your podcast about?
15:29And just like that, we'll see you in the next one.
15:30Peace.
15:30Peace.
15:30Peace.
15:30Peace.
15:30Peace.
15:30Peace.
15:30Peace.
15:31Peace.
