500 at launch of Oseyo Korean supermarket on The Moor
Transcript
00:00No one could have really expected that the opening of a sale in Sheffield would also
00:05be the arrival of Storm Amy to the UK, which is why about 500 people were more than satisfied
00:11waiting in the rain for up to an hour, and in some cases two, to get inside the brand
00:16new Korean supermarket that has opened in Sheffield City Centre this week.
00:20This is the largest chain of the South Korean supermarket that has opened here in the UK
00:26and is now across three floors of a shop on the moor, which to date has been closed for
00:30approximately five years, so it is a brand new addition to the high street in Sheffield.
00:36With all that said, I made sure I was down there for 10 o'clock today so I could take
00:39you inside of a sale supermarket for the very first time.
00:43It's taken six weeks of renovations to get the shop fitted for customers today, and I
00:47can say it's probably the most colourful supermarket I've ever been inside.
00:51The central atrium is dominated by this large glass chandelier covering all three floors of
00:55the supermarket.
00:56And alongside that, South Korea seems to have a penchant for really bright, bold, colourful
01:01packaging, usually with some sort of celebrity endorsement or cartoon characters out, which
01:05makes the whole supermarket just burst with colour when you walk through the door.
01:10I think what's going to make this a hit for Sheffield and make it a draw for the city centre
01:13is it's a really high energy shopping experience.
01:16There are TVs playing K-pop music videos on most floors.
01:21There are attractions like the Ramyeon Library.
01:23There is the ice cup station, that's a huge viral hit if you've never heard of that one.
01:27Buy an ice cup, take your drink off the shelf, pour it in there, usually on video for the
01:32gram.
01:33And that was only like £2.
01:34The cup is £1 and the drink is £1.
01:37I'm going to go out my way and say for South Yorkshire's youth that's going to be a great
01:41thing to come to the city centre for and take part in as well.
01:44The actual products available I think are on a par with quite a few Asian supermarkets I've
01:48seen in Sheffield but the draw, the attraction, what they're doing differently is that it's
01:52right here in the city centre.
01:54I found the price is quite reasonable for what we can see and it is the renovation of
01:59a high street store that's been closed for the best part of five years and now it's bursting
02:03with colour energy and is a great spot to sort of nip into and just see what you can
02:08find on a lunch break or if you're on a weekend trip into the city.
02:12I think we have a real hit on our hands for Sheffield right here.
02:14It's a bright, exciting, high energy new addition to Sheffield City Centre, the kind of shop
02:19that you can sort of nip into and just have a look around whenever you feel like it, which
02:23is a rare thing these days, attested to by the some 500 people who would have stood around
02:28today waiting to get in there first and the extra 500 people I saw show up just to be here
02:32on the first day.
02:33I encourage you to get down to the city centre and check out the sale as soon as you can.
