09:30We are back to To Tell The Truth.
09:34Let's meet our next team of challengers.
09:41Number one, what is your name, please?
09:44My name is Felix Rodriguez.
09:47Number two.
09:48My name is Felix Rodriguez.
09:51Number three.
09:53My name is Felix Rodriguez.
09:55And panel, once again, it's up to you to locate the real Felix Rodriguez.
09:59And here is his story.
10:01Please read along with me.
10:03I, Felix Rodriguez, was a CIA agent.
10:06I've been fighting communism since I was 17 years old.
10:09I was called upon for many covert operations against communists throughout the world,
10:14from the Bay of Pigs through Vietnam.
10:16I was infiltrated into Cuba six weeks before the Bay of Pigs invasion
10:20and was one of the few who escaped after the invasion failed.
10:24In 1967, as an advisor to the Bolivian Army,
10:27I helped capture Shea Guevara.
10:30I was the last person to interrogate him before he was executed.
10:34This picture is the only picture of Guevara alive in captivity.
10:38In 1985, I was asked by Lieutenant Colonel Oliver North
10:42to resupply the Contras in El Salvador.
10:45North failed to heed my warning that some of his partners were not to be trusted.
10:49My information was proven right during the Iran-Contra hearings.
10:52My book, entitled Shadow Warrior, tells all my experiences in the CIA
10:57and my fight against communism.
11:00Signed, Felix Rodriguez.
11:13Let's start the far end with Monty Hall.
11:15Number one, has your book been approved by the CIA?
11:17Yes, we have to submit everything for their approval before it can be printed.
11:21And number two, they didn't try to stop it?
11:23No.
11:24Number three, how did you escape after the invasion failed?
11:28I was able to make it to the Venezuelan embassy.
11:32And number one, who killed Shea Guevara?
11:35A Bolivian soldier who's anonymous now.
11:38Monty, thank you.
11:39Vicky?
11:39You've been fighting since you were 17 years old, number one.
11:44How did you get started?
11:46Well, we left Cuba and immediately I volunteered to join the forces
11:51because in Miami there was talk about planning an invasion.
11:54So all the Cubans were being organized.
11:56So at number two, you left Cuba, you came to America,
11:58and you just joined up with the CIA.
12:00Is it that easy?
12:01I did.
12:01You flew to number two?
12:02Number two, yes.
12:03No, I was raised in Havana, and then I came to a high school in New York.
12:09At the age of 19, I volunteered to do paramilitary work against the Castro regime,
12:17and we were shipped to Guatemala.
12:18I didn't know at the time that it was CIA-backed.
12:21It was Cuban-backed.
12:22As far as I knew, Cuban exile-backed.
12:25It was later on that I was recruited by the CIA
12:27because they were actually helping to form the entire operation.
12:33Time's up, Vicky.
12:36David.
12:36Oh, all right.
12:38Number one, how old were you when you were involved with the Bay of Pigs?
12:42I was 19 years old.
12:44Okay.
12:45Number two, what island was used to train the pro-Cuban?
12:52Swan Island.
12:52Number three, who gave Swan Island?
12:55Swan Island, I think it was used with a radio station.
12:59We were trained Guatemala.
13:00Number one, going back to the Swan Island, was it called Swan Island?
13:05There was a radio station at Swan Island, but the troops were trained in Guatemala.
13:10The troops.
13:10David, thank you.
13:12Teddy.
13:12Gosh.
13:14Number two, where did you capture Che Guevara?
13:17Che Guevara was captured in Bolivia, in a little town called La Higuera.
13:20Uh-huh.
13:21And number three, was he intended to be executed on the spot like that?
13:26I think it was a decision of the Bolivian high command.
13:29Ah.
13:29And number one, what do you do now?
13:32I am retired.
13:34I have a pension, and I'm in business.
13:37Ah.
13:37And number two, who was head...
13:38Kitty, thank you very much.
13:39Panel, that means your time is up and time to vote for either number one, number two, or number three.
13:48And, Monty, we'll start with you.
13:51This is not going to be easy.
13:52They both, they all answered their questions quite well.
13:55I didn't think it was number two because he gave a rather long answer to one of the questions,
13:59and I thought the CIA were trained to speak very abruptly and clip tones.
14:03So I ruled him out.
14:04Number one looks like he'd be young enough to have been that age at the time.
14:07So I voted for number one.
14:09Okay.
14:10Vicki.
14:11Gosh, see, I was going to do number two because of that long answer.
14:14And I thought he really knew what he was talking about, but, and number one, I ruled out.
14:19I'm not really sure why.
14:20I'm strictly going on a hunch.
14:21I'm saying number three.
14:22Okay.
14:24Well, strange as it may seem, I'm going for number two because of number two's long answer.
14:31Kitty.
14:32Well, I'm going for number three because he was rather scornful when Mr. Niven suggested
14:38that Swan Island was where they trained and said, no, not at all.
14:43That was a place where it was a radio station.
14:45So I went for number three.
14:47Okay.
14:48Well, all the votes are in.
14:50Number one and number two each have a single vote, while number three has two.
14:54Now let's find out who the real shadow warrior is.
14:57Well, the real Felix Rodriguez, please stand up.
15:06Number three.
15:08Number three.
15:09Felix, I have to ask you, you know, being in Cuba during that Bay of Pigs incident and
15:16doing, I imagine, quite a bit more work there, did you ever, were you ever called upon to
15:22get close to Castro, to shadow him?
15:24Well, I actually volunteered to kill him back in, when I was going to go back to Cuba.
15:30And it was approved at a point in time by the agency.
15:32And I even tried three times to infiltrate it with a rifle, and then it was canceled by
15:36the government.
15:37Yeah.
15:37Oof.
15:38But I tried.
15:39Dangerous life you've lived.
15:40Let's find out who your imposters are.
15:42Number one, your name and what do you do?
15:43Yes.
15:44My name is Mario Begiristain.
15:45I'm creative director at an advertising agency.
15:48Terrific.
15:50Number two, your name and what do you do?
15:53My name is Jason Miranda, and I am a journalist and I interview celebrities for foreign magazines
15:57in Europe.
15:58Terrific.
16:00There were two incorrect votes, so at $500 a vote, your team will receive $1,000.
16:05And thank you for playing To Tell the Truth.
16:08We'll be right back to play one-on-one with someone from our studio audience right after
16:11this.
16:16Now it's time to play one-on-one with someone from our studio audience.
16:19So, Burton, who do you have for us today?
16:21Well, Lynn, today for you we have Cynthia Nichols from San Diego, California.
16:26Welcome, Cynthia.
16:27Nice to have you here.
16:29You're going to have a chance to play one-on-one.
16:31I want you to meet a woman who has two stories.
16:33Please welcome Pam Richards.
16:35Pam?
16:40Pam has two stories, only one of which is the truth.
16:44Now, Cynthia, if you spot that true story, you'll win $500.
16:47So, Pam, what's your first story?
16:49I got fired for refusing to make coffee for my boss.
16:53I took her to court, and I won $10,000.
16:57Now, that may or may not be the truth, so listen to her second story.
17:00I won a car and a lottery.
17:03I turned it down because it wasn't union made.
17:06All right, panel, here's your chance to help Cynthia win $500.
17:10One question for each story.
17:12Kitty will start with the coffee story.
17:15How did she damage you to the tune of $10,000, your boss?
17:19She asked me to do a job that was not mine.
17:22It was not in the job description.
17:24David.
17:25Was $10,000 what you settled for or what you started out asking for?
17:30And if it wasn't what you started out asking for, how much did you...
17:32One question, David.
17:34Okay.
17:34Which one is it?
17:36Which one is it?
17:38Is that what you settled for?
17:40Yes.
17:40Okay.
17:41Okay.
17:41Vicki.
17:42Why would it be improper to make coffee for your boss in an office?
17:46I mean, just as a fellow human being.
17:48I was the one she picked on all the time to do it, and I got tired of it.
17:52Pam, is it the truth that you didn't like your boss to begin with?
17:55No.
17:56Now, Cynthia, after all of that, that's the first story.
18:00Now listen to story number two about the car.
18:02Kitty.
18:03What cars are not union-made?
18:06Honda Accords.
18:08David.
18:09Which lottery was this?
18:11Ohio's.
18:13Vicki.
18:15What union are you a member of?
18:17United Auto Workers.
18:19Monty.
18:20How many cars do you own?
18:22I own one.
18:24Okay.
18:24Cynthia.
18:25You've heard the cross-examination.
18:27Did Pam refuse to make coffee and receive $10,000, or did she turn down the car?
18:34I'm going to go with the coffee, because I've heard of that happening a lot.
18:38Okay.
18:39So I'll go with that one.
18:40Pam, what is your true story?
18:42To tell the truth, I turned down the car.
18:44I'm sorry, Cynthia, but we do have a lovely gift for you, and Pam, you get $1,000 for stumping
18:52Cynthia in one-on-one.
18:54Now we have a piece of tape of you turning down the car.
18:57Let's take a look at it.
18:58Well, there it is, Pam.
19:00Well, there it is, Pam, brand-new Honda Accord, order, the cash, and lots of free advice.
19:06Now, she says no.
19:08Does that mean no car, Pam?
19:09I'm a union member.
19:10You turned down the car, so what are you driving now?
19:19What do you have?
19:20I have an Imperial that was given to me for a year, and then in the future, I have cars
19:26that are going to be given to me, but I don't have them in my possession yet.
19:29How many cars will be given to you?
19:31In the future, I'll have three.
19:33Two to keep forever and one to drive for the year.
19:36Boy, that's a better deal than you get with Monty Hall.
19:40Do you want to keep what you got or try for curtain number three?
19:43I'll keep what I have.
19:44She'll keep it.
19:45Listen, thank you very much for playing.
19:47We'll be right back after these words.
19:57Thank you for being here.
19:58We'll see you later on To Tell the Truth.
20:00Bye.
20:04This is Burton Richardson speaking for To Tell the Truth.
