00:00Takes out the way for the big night, yeah?
00:02Yes, firstly, thank you everyone for coming.
00:05I really appreciate your effort in coming to see exactly what this event is going to be about,
00:11giving me an opportunity to speak to you in person.
00:14I've spoke to quite a few of you over the last few weeks.
00:18In terms of what we've got planned, how we hope to sort of deliver on the night,
00:23not myself personally, but the lads that are sitting alongside me,
00:28I think it's really important that you know a little bit more about what these lads have committed to,
00:35the work and the effort they've put in, the professionalism and the commitment that they've made,
00:40not just to help others, but also to work as a team, reconnected as ex-footballers.
00:48I think you can hear from sitting in here exactly what sort of characters we've got next door,
00:53the camaraderie that the lads have, old stories, reminiscing.
00:59Obviously, we know that it's just around the corner we've got fight night,
01:02so there is an element of seriousness to that.
01:05I won't introduce the lads individually, I'll leave that to the host.
01:10And I think we will talk about the bouts.
01:16The lads actually don't know the order of the fights just yet,
01:18but they will do in minutes to come.
01:22But just before I sort of close off and hand it over,
01:26if you can give us as much help as you possibly can for the event,
01:31in terms of trying to raise as much money,
01:34we need your help and we need your support.
01:36We need you to really push this event as much as you can.
01:40I know some of you have got really powerful platforms.
01:43Some of you are sort of more mainstream.
01:47But yeah, on behalf of everyone sitting here,
01:49to make this a big success, it's not about the result in the ring.
01:52It's about the one outside of it.
01:54And that is going to be raising hundreds of thousands of pounds.
01:58So I would really appreciate if you could give this a massive push.
02:01If people would like to book tickets up, book tables up,
02:06there's tickets and tables still available.
02:08If you could head to proprojectpromotions.com.
02:12There is also the ability to donate as well.
02:15So if anyone can't make the event,
02:17but would be happy to donate,
02:19I'd be extremely grateful for that.
02:21I'm now going to pass you over to Oli,
02:24if you'd like to come forward.
02:25Ladies and gentlemen,
02:30thank you very much for coming along to this press conference.
02:34Very exciting.
02:35As Graham says,
02:36it certainly will be a night to remember.
02:38And I just want to echo his words that this is all for a fantastic cause.
02:43And everyone here is putting their all into it.
02:46And we're all very, very excited.
02:48Right.
02:48Without further ado,
02:50as Graham mentioned,
02:51the fight card is yet to be announced.
02:53These guys know who they're fighting,
02:55but they don't know which order it's going to be on the night.
02:58So as I read out this card,
03:00I'll be introducing them one by one as well.
03:02But here we go.
03:03This is the big moment.
03:04This is when you will find out what time you will be fighting on this huge night.
03:10It's three rounds of two minutes each.
03:13And fight number one,
03:15we'll see Paddy Kenny take on Curtis Davies.
03:21So just quickly,
03:22Paddy Kenny is unwell.
03:23He don't fancy it.
03:24I've got a message this morning.
03:25He don't fancy it.
03:26He don't want it.
03:26Curtis has straight away told me that his bottle's gone.
03:29Yeah.
03:30And it wouldn't surprise me if we need to get a replacement.
03:33So Paddy's assured me that he is fully fit.
03:36He's just slightly unwell.
03:37So just to put that one at rest,
03:39Kurt,
03:39he's right up for it.
03:40Yeah,
03:40we'll ask Curtis about that in just a moment.
03:42Fight two,
03:43we'll see David Noble take on Leroy Lita.
03:48Fight number three,
03:49sees Lee Trundle take on Anthony Gardner.
03:53Fight four before the main event,
03:56we'll see Marvin Elliott take on Greg Halford.
03:59And then the main event of the evening,
04:01David Bentley,
04:04trained by Kevin Mitchell,
04:05will take on Jodie Morris,
04:08trained by Darren Barker.
04:09We are very much looking forward to that.
04:11But there's only one place to start,
04:13isn't there?
04:13Curtis.
04:15Curtis,
04:15Curtis,
04:16Curtis.
04:16Your opponent,
04:18Paddy Kenny,
04:19says he's unwell.
04:21First question for you.
04:22Do you buy that?
04:23Nah,
04:23nah.
04:24Coincidence,
04:24isn't it?
04:25That he's been sending all these pictures in the group of his training and all that.
04:28And all of a sudden,
04:28when he needs to come down and go face to face,
04:30he don't fancy it.
04:32But listen,
04:33it's all about training hard,
04:36working hard.
04:36We've all,
04:37what we spoke about there,
04:38that new challenge of being a retired footballer,
04:42having something that you can grasp on to.
04:45You know,
04:45we spoke about earlier saying,
04:46if there's a charity football match,
04:48we'll do a couple of runs.
04:49Yeah,
04:49I'll be fit for that.
04:50Whereas this,
04:51we've all gone hammer and tong.
04:52We've all tried to do it properly.
04:53We've all got proper coaches,
04:54all gone and had our heads jabbed off by pros and stuff like that,
04:58just to get prepared for a fight.
05:00So yeah,
05:01we're all taking it seriously.
05:02And ultimately,
05:03we all want to win.
05:04We're competitors.
05:05We're here for the charities.
05:06Yes,
05:06we want to make as much money for charity.
05:08And that's why we're putting ourselves into these positions to,
05:11to obviously,
05:13like I say,
05:14maybe embarrass ourselves or maybe not,
05:16but all in the name of charity,
05:17but all of us want to win.
05:18And yeah,
05:19I want to win on the night.
05:20Talk to me about that sparring.
05:22What was it like when you,
05:23you hit for the first time hard,
05:25flush,
05:26you know,
05:26what's that like?
05:27Cause obviously you've been through so much training as a footballer,
05:29but nothing really can prepare you for that kind of moment.
05:33I've been a dopey center off all my career.
05:35So I've had knocks on the head.
05:37I've had broken noses,
05:40all sorts.
05:42So in terms of the bravery side of it and putting your head where you
05:45shouldn't,
05:46I probably have got,
05:47but there's still a side of it where you get hit and you don't react.
05:51Cause you know,
05:51as much as I've been hit with elbows,
05:53stuff like that,
05:54you know,
05:55you don't get up and chin someone and go mad on the football pitch.
05:59Obviously in a boxing ring,
06:00you can,
06:00you can technically do that,
06:02but you don't want to lose your cool.
06:03You want to keep calm.
06:04You want to stay in your,
06:06in your zone and stay with your,
06:08what your trainers have told you.
06:09So I think the most pleasing thing is I've not been reactive when I train,
06:13but at the same time,
06:15when you are getting your head picked off by,
06:16by a pro that's nine and O it is,
06:19it is quite daunting.
06:21But,
06:21but yeah,
06:22sometimes when you land a shot,
06:23it gives you that extra confidence as well though.
06:25When it comes to Paddy,
06:26he's used to wearing a different kind of pair of gloves,
06:28but what kind of threat do you think he's going to bring on the night?
06:31What are you looking out for?
06:33Paddy's tough.
06:34He's,
06:35he's tough.
06:35I think he'll probably be coming in the ring heavier than me as well.
06:39He's doing really well with his training,
06:41to be fair to him,
06:41but he's,
06:43he's lost a bit,
06:44but he's probably still going to be coming in heavier than me.
06:46I think what I expect from him is,
06:48he's a bulldog really.
06:49I think he's going to go hammer and tong.
06:51He's like I say,
06:52he's a tough guy.
06:54Tough Yorkshireman,
06:55but I'm from East London,
06:57so I don't really care where he's from.
07:00So yeah,
07:00I'm just,
07:01I'm just concentrating on myself.
07:03You know,
07:04I'll have certain tactics on the night.
07:05Sometimes the tactics go out the window because as they say,
07:08everyone's got a plan and sort of get punched in the face.
07:11Hopefully I don't get punched in the face and I can stay cool and,
07:13yeah,
07:14and get the win.
07:14Just finally.
07:16Is that compliment from that room?
07:18Yeah,
07:19yeah.
07:19He's looked past me already.
07:24Do you know what I mean?
07:25Yeah,
07:25that's what he's done.
07:26I think he said it was a warm-up fight.
07:27Yeah.
07:28Does that mean we could see Davies v Rooney if you win?
07:30Oh,
07:31no,
07:31I wouldn't fight Wazza.
07:32No,
07:32no,
07:32I forget that.
07:33But listen,
07:35I think with Paddy calling out Rooney,
07:38yeah,
07:38you never know if Wayne wants to come out.
07:40I'm sure that would raise a lot of money for the charity.
07:42So,
07:43so why not?
07:44But,
07:44but yeah,
07:44I don't like the fact he's looked past me.
07:46He's already calling out Wazza.
07:48But yeah,
07:49for me,
07:49like I say,
07:50just about winning and getting the job done.
07:52And you're going to be first on the night.
07:54You've heard that news just now.
07:55How do you feel about that?
07:57I think at least I'll be ready for the after party.
07:59So that's one good thing.
08:02But yeah,
08:02it's,
08:03it's,
08:03it's one of those.
08:04We're going to have to set the standard.
08:06We're going to be the ones to step out there and,
08:08and lay the marker really.
08:10So a lot of responsibility on us to make sure that the people are entertained.
08:14And hopefully I entertain the people by,
08:16by getting Paddy out of there.
08:18Fantastic stuff.
08:18Well,
08:19good luck on the night.
08:20I'm going to move on to fight number two,
08:22David Noble against Leroy Lita.
08:24So let me come and find you David.
08:26Second on the night.
08:28First,
08:28your reaction to that news.
08:30How are you feeling about that?
08:31Yeah,
08:31I'm quite,
08:31quite happy with that.
08:33To be fair,
08:33first one's a bit daunting.
08:35You don't know what to expect.
08:36So like Curtis says,
08:37I can have a watch of that first one and see if I need to improve it or try and get up to that standard.
08:44And you're taking on Leroy.
08:46How are you feeling about that?
08:47Is he here?
08:47Leroy?
08:48Leroy's not.
08:49He's on a course actually.
08:51Yeah,
08:52Leach is on a course.
08:53He apologised on the way down.
08:54He just said he'd be unable to make it today.
08:56But he's not running scared,
08:57no,
08:57but I can assure you.
08:57Well,
08:58I mean,
08:59we've already had a change of fighters.
09:01I don't know if people know about that.
09:03And people are saying,
09:04I've drawn the short straw.
09:06He's got a bit of combat experience in the past,
09:09but different discipline.
09:12So we'll see in the boxing.
09:13What's the game plan then for you?
09:15When you're coming up against someone like Leroy?
09:19Hear that final bell.
09:20Is it out working him?
09:22Is it moving around the ring?
09:23It's not that big a ring,
09:25is it?
09:2616 foot ring.
09:27Sorry.
09:2716 foot?
09:28Yeah,
09:28no,
09:28actually it's an 18 foot ring.
09:30It's a bigger ring than what we originally had in mind.
09:33It's an 18 foot ring,
09:34so it's quite a big one.
09:35So if you want to run,
09:36you can.
09:37Is that working your favourite nose,
09:38do you think?
09:39He's probably quicker than me anyway.
09:41No,
09:42we'll see.
09:42And how have you found the training and everything?
09:44We'll just speak to Curtis there.
09:45Obviously,
09:46you know,
09:46when it's football and something you're used to,
09:48this is completely different.
09:50That's the bit.
09:51That's the bit.
09:52It's totally foreign to most of us.
09:55It's something you've never done before.
09:58You like to fancy yourself.
09:59Everybody does.
10:00Football's a sport that everybody thinks they can play football.
10:03Everybody's shouting at the telly.
10:04Well,
10:04boxing's exactly the same.
10:06you're watching a fight
10:08and you're picking a fighter
10:10and you're asking,
10:10why is he?
10:11Come on,
10:11what's the matter?
10:12Get after him.
10:13And until you step in that ring,
10:15you understand what they're going through.
10:17What's your prediction for your own fight then?
10:19Come on.
10:19How confident are you?
10:20Noble win,
10:21100%.
10:21I love that.
10:22Love to hear that.
10:23Right,
10:23following you,
10:25Mr. Lee Trundle,
10:27who will be,
10:28of course,
10:28taking on Anthony Gardner.
10:30Lee,
10:30you're looking in incredible shape,
10:32man.
10:32I've got to say,
10:33everyone,
10:33the training seems to be going pretty well,
10:39mate.
10:39Yeah,
10:39well,
10:40I still play myself.
10:43I still play in the Welsh league,
10:45semi-pro,
10:45so I'm still in with me football.
10:47And then once Stachy got in touch with me about the boxing,
10:51I got straight in.
10:52I'm fighting out of Bonnie Mine Gym,
10:55Enzo Macronelli,
10:56and I've been in every single day with him,
10:58well,
10:59Monday to Friday.
11:00And I haven't,
11:01well,
11:02I've had one drink,
11:02so I've changed my diet right now.
11:05So I think something like this as well,
11:06as you say,
11:07you're going to a football game and we can get away with it in a football game.
11:10You can,
11:10you know,
11:11I could just go and nutmeg seven people,
11:13go around my shoulders and score.
11:15But in boxing,
11:16you know,
11:16you can get hurt in it,
11:17you know,
11:18fighting Anthony as well.
11:19He's a big,
11:19strong lad.
11:20So I just wanted to do everything right.
11:22So when I do get into them times where I'm feeling tired,
11:24I know in myself that I've done everything right and I can just power on.
11:27How have you actually found that doing the boxing training every single day whilst still playing as well?
11:32Yeah,
11:32I felt,
11:33I felt,
11:33obviously it's only part time with the playing and,
11:36you know,
11:36beforehand I've thought,
11:38well,
11:38I could have a fight.
11:39I'll be all right.
11:41I thought if I could just get in the ring,
11:42but as soon as I went in that gym on the first day and I thought if I would have never,
11:47I thought I might've been just all right getting in.
11:48If I wouldn't have went in that gym,
11:50I would have been finished because it's a completely different discipline,
11:54completely different skills.
11:56You know,
11:56it's not just about being able to throw.
11:58It's about like,
11:59you know,
11:59movement,
12:00cutting the ring off,
12:01you know,
12:01coming in and out of distance and stuff.
12:03So for something like this off me,
12:05you know,
12:05I've really enjoyed the training.
12:06It's something that I will carry on as well when I've,
12:08when I've finished the fight as well.
12:10As I say,
12:10fitness wise,
12:11I'm seven kilos down to what I was.
12:13So,
12:14you know,
12:14it's,
12:14it's been really enjoyable.
12:16And as you say,
12:16testing yourself against these,
12:18I've always had respect for boxers and fighters because we,
12:20you know how hard it is,
12:21but until you get in yourself and start with the training,
12:24because I've been someone who,
12:25if I go out and play football,
12:26I was,
12:27I was never,
12:27ever nervous before any game.
12:29I just wanted to get out and enjoy it.
12:31Where before my first spa that morning,
12:33I was,
12:34I was really nervous.
12:35I felt like,
12:36because you're going in to have a fight with someone,
12:37you're going in against boxers as well.
12:39So you don't know how they're going to be with you.
12:40Although the boxers have done really well and looked after me,
12:43even though you're still getting hit,
12:44you know,
12:44they're still looking after us and moving us out about,
12:47but you know,
12:48it's been brilliant and I've really enjoyed it.
12:49How tough has Enzo been as a trainer?
12:52And was it from minute one as well?
12:54Oh yeah.
12:54Well,
12:54I've known Enzo since 2003.
12:57So I've known him as a mate.
12:58And the lads were the,
12:59you know,
12:59the lads who've been involved in boxing would know him personally as well.
13:02And they know what he's about.
13:03And he's someone who doesn't cut corners.
13:05If you go to his gym,
13:06it's a proper old school gym.
13:08It's bags ring.
13:09There's no weights.
13:10There's nothing like that.
13:10So you're doing everything like old school,
13:13but he's someone who is on you all the time.
13:16I can't say what he says to you when I start slowing down on the pads or in spas and
13:19stuff,
13:19but you know,
13:20he really gets onto me and he pushes you on as a trainer.
13:24Just finally,
13:24you've got a message for your opponent,
13:26Anthony Gardner,
13:26about to speak to him.
13:27Yeah.
13:28Listen,
13:28it's going to be a good fight.
13:29You know,
13:29you see the stamp of Anthony.
13:31He's a big,
13:32strong lad.
13:33So I think it will be a really tough fight and I'm something that I'm looking forward
13:37to.
13:37Fantastic stuff.
13:38Well,
13:38good luck to you,
13:40Lee.
13:40Anthony,
13:40I'm going to come and find you.
13:41I'm going to come and find you.
13:43I guess my first question for you,
13:44just talked about the shape that Lee Trundle was in.
13:47He's lost seven kilos.
13:48Yeah.
13:49You were expecting that?
13:50I knew he'd come in big.
13:51I knew he'd come in big.
13:52I was thinking to myself on the walk.
13:54Was he getting like double supplements or what?
13:56Because the size of his shoulders and his arms,
14:01he's a strong boy.
14:01I've always known that Lee's a strong boy.
14:02Is this you calling for a drug test?
14:05My fight in Trundle or Drago here?
14:07What?
14:07What's going on?
14:08But yeah,
14:09I'm looking forward to the fight.
14:11It's got me focused.
14:13Back in the gym,
14:14feeling good,
14:15moving well,
14:17and just enjoying the sport of boxing.
14:19Always been a big fan of it.
14:20Over the years,
14:23it's one of the sports that I've really thought to myself,
14:26yeah,
14:27when I stop,
14:27I'd like to get involved,
14:28get in the ring and feel what it's like to be in that environment.
14:32And luckily enough,
14:33you had the chance.
14:34Yeah,
14:34you're going to have the chance to do that.
14:36And which gym you've been training at?
14:37How's that all gone for you?
14:39I've been training with Ross Bergenshaw,
14:41two coaches,
14:42Ross Bergenshaw,
14:43because he's quite local to where I live.
14:45And Dave Caldwell as well.
14:47Me and Greg have been doing some sparring up with Dave Caldwell.
14:50Which has been fun.
14:52The first time we did some sparring was quite an eye-opener.
14:56The lungs were feeling it,
14:57gassing a little bit.
14:59We actually watched,
15:01I think there were two pros,
15:02young lads,
15:03and they've just turned pro now.
15:04And the way they were going at their spa
15:06was nothing like the way we were going at it.
15:08But the energy and the grit that they had,
15:11it was amazing to watch.
15:13So it kind of was inspiring for us to then go in and after them
15:16and give it a go ourselves.
15:18And we had a good go at it.
15:21Struggling after,
15:21and I said to the boys,
15:23I said,
15:23I've got a new fan.
15:24Respect for boxers.
15:26I had big respect for you.
15:27But after the initial spa,
15:31it was just like,
15:32wow.
15:33You've got your opponent down the other end.
15:34If you want to get in his head a bit,
15:36what are your strengths as a boxer?
15:37What are you going to be bringing to the table,
15:38do you think?
15:39Everyone can see my size,
15:40my height.
15:41I'm quite rangy.
15:42Got a bit of a jab on me.
15:44Don't want to give too much away.
15:47I think because he's that into it,
15:49he'll be studying tonight.
15:50If I say too much.
15:51But yeah,
15:52I can move.
15:54I can move.
15:55I'm a bit of a dancer.
15:56So my feet movement is decent.
15:59So after this strictly,
16:01do you think?
16:02Maybe so.
16:03Maybe.
16:04Great stuff.
16:05We're very much looking forward to that fight.
16:07Let's move on then,
16:08shall we,
16:08to fight number four,
16:09Mr. Greg Halford.
16:10you'll be taking on Marvin Elliott.
16:13Greg,
16:14as a player,
16:14you never liked to scrap really,
16:15did you?
16:16Not really?
16:17That wasn't really your thing?
16:18No,
16:19I stayed away from the trouble.
16:20Yeah,
16:20I stayed away from the trouble.
16:23No,
16:24obviously,
16:25me and Marv
16:25have played against each other a lot.
16:27So I kind of know
16:28what type of player he is.
16:31Sort of gritty,
16:33hardworking.
16:34So I expect nothing less than that in the room.
16:37And how has it been throwing yourself
16:39into this kind of environment?
16:41You know,
16:41very different to football training,
16:43as we've said.
16:44How do you find the process of it all?
16:47Tough.
16:48Tough.
16:48It's hard work.
16:50Again,
16:50all the lads have said,
16:51newfound respect for all the boxers out there
16:54and whoever steps into that ring.
16:57It is tough
16:58and it's completely different to football.
17:00The fitness levels you have to be
17:02to get to the standard
17:03where you want to go in boxing
17:05is just a different level to football.
17:08And you found out,
17:09obviously,
17:10today that you will be on
17:11before the main event.
17:13Does that add
17:13a bit of pressure to it all?
17:16No.
17:17Not really.
17:18Not really.
17:18We all knew we were going to be fighting,
17:20so it didn't really matter
17:21when it was coming.
17:23You know,
17:24I'm just,
17:24I can't wait to get in there
17:25and,
17:26you know,
17:27from the ring walk
17:28to stepping in the ring
17:30to fighting,
17:31I can't wait for it.
17:31Got a special ring walk planned?
17:34You're going to have to wait and see?
17:34Yeah,
17:35wait and see.
17:35Looking forward to that.
17:37Let's chat to Marvin then,
17:39shall we?
17:40Marvin,
17:41looking forward to it?
17:42Oh,
17:43I can't wait.
17:43Really,
17:44really looking forward to it.
17:45I mean,
17:45when Stackey called me
17:46probably about three months ago now,
17:48I was like,
17:49yeah,
17:49I'll do it.
17:50He told me it was for charity,
17:51even before he said it was boxing.
17:52I said,
17:52yeah,
17:52I'm in and then I didn't really think
17:54too much about it
17:55and then probably about
17:56six to eight weeks ago,
17:58I was like,
17:58oh,
17:58this is real.
17:59This is happening.
18:00I saw a few of the boys training
18:01and I was like,
18:02okay,
18:02I probably should start training as well.
18:04So,
18:05yeah,
18:05really looking forward to it.
18:06I love that.
18:06Before you even knew it was boxing,
18:08before you knew what you were getting into,
18:09you were straight in for it.
18:10Yeah,
18:10I mean,
18:11yeah,
18:11we're all going to talk about boxing.
18:13I think we're here first and foremost
18:14to raise money for charity.
18:15That's why we're here.
18:17Okay,
18:17so that's first and foremost,
18:18but yeah,
18:19boxing second.
18:20When you found out you were fighting Greg,
18:22played against each other,
18:24were you immediately thinking about
18:25the kind of battles that you had on the pitch?
18:27Not at all.
18:28All I thought was,
18:29I just need to know how tall he was
18:30because I knew he was a little bit taller than me.
18:32I wasn't even thinking about how he was as a footballer.
18:34I was just thinking that
18:35I can't get embarrassed.
18:37I've got to beat him.
18:38That was it really.
18:39I've tried to get a little bit out of him
18:41the last couple of weeks.
18:42He's quite quiet,
18:43which scares me a bit.
18:44It's hard to get a move on him.
18:47So you're more of the trash talker,
18:49would you say?
18:49I wouldn't say I'm a trash talker,
18:50but I'm making no bones about it.
18:52I don't know what I'm doing
18:53and what I want to do.
18:54But yeah,
18:54I've been trying to get a bit out of Greg,
18:56but I can't get too much out of it.
18:57Well, go on then.
18:58Tell us,
18:58how's it going to go?
18:59I'm going to win.
19:00I'm going to win.
19:01I don't know how I'm going to win,
19:02but I'm looking forward to it
19:03and I'm training hard.
19:04And yeah,
19:06I feel like I'm going to win.
19:07What are your big strengths,
19:08do you think,
19:09as a boxer?
19:10What have you found
19:10over the last six to eight weeks?
19:12I would definitely say my endurance
19:15and my ability to take a punch
19:17from who I've been sparring with.
19:19I mean,
19:20in terms of the sparring,
19:22the boys would know,
19:22training with pro boxers,
19:24you're like,
19:25you can't even hit them.
19:26You literally can't even hit them.
19:28So it's just that ability
19:29to take a punch and keep going.
19:30I think Curtis said it
19:31and not lose your cool.
19:33Just sort of focus,
19:34focus on your tactics
19:35and not try to go out there swinging
19:37and so forth.
19:37Yeah,
19:38fantastic.
19:39Well,
19:39you're the fight before the main event.
19:41Greg doesn't seem phased by that.
19:43Does that add anything for you at all?
19:45Nah,
19:45I agree with Greg.
19:46We're all here to fight.
19:47It doesn't matter if you're one,
19:48first or fifth.
19:49Yeah.
19:50Well,
19:50let's move on then,
19:51shall we?
19:52Ollie,
19:52Ollie,
19:53just quickly,
19:53the reason Bentley and Jodie are last
19:56is there's no main event.
19:57They're all the main event.
19:58It's just trying to keep him out of the bar
19:59as long as I possibly can.
20:01So that's why he's last.
20:03I can't,
20:03Dad.
20:04I want to keep the dance floor clear
20:05for as long as possible
20:06and keep him away from the bar
20:08before there's murder.
20:09Delaying him from the after party,
20:10which is a great shout.
20:13Gentlemen,
20:14it is going to be absolutely huge.
20:16Before I speak to you,
20:17David,
20:17and to you,
20:18Jodie,
20:18I want to chat to your trainers as well.
20:21Kevin,
20:22let's start with you.
20:23Obviously,
20:23you've worked with some proper fighters.
20:26Yep.
20:26What's it been like working with
20:27David Bentley over here?
20:29Fucking colourful.
20:32He loves you,
20:32don't you?
20:33A lot of rainbow,
20:33isn't he?
20:33Yes.
20:34To be fair,
20:35he's been working hard.
20:36The first thing he came in the gym
20:37and said to me,
20:37I want to learn how to box.
20:39I said,
20:40Benny,
20:40we've got six weeks.
20:42We've got to learn to get fit,
20:43hold your hands up,
20:44hold your shape
20:45and get the basics really.
20:46But he's been working hard,
20:47working very well.
20:49I've had him in sparring,
20:50had a few blows to the head.
20:52He took it well.
20:54That's the main thing.
20:55When you do like the white collars,
20:56I've trained a lot of people
20:57over the years.
20:58As Dale knows,
21:00as everyone knows,
21:01I've been involved in boxing.
21:02It's quite,
21:03when you're new to it,
21:04a lot of it will go out the window.
21:05So most of it will be down to,
21:07boiled down to how fit are they,
21:08how much do they want it?
21:10So I've worked on a lot
21:11in his fitness,
21:11his boxing.
21:12He's done really well though.
21:13It's been very entertaining.
21:16You know who likes a trip to Marbella?
21:17Was there ever any talk
21:18of warm weather training?
21:19He was saying about Ibiza.
21:21He was saying about Ibiza.
21:22I said,
21:22no,
21:23we've got to scrap Ibiza.
21:24Get you back to the old school,
21:25get you in an old school team.
21:26You can't do Ibiza.
21:28I said,
21:28we can't fucking do Ibiza.
21:30I'm telling you.
21:31How have you found the training?
21:34How have you found the gym?
21:35It's tough.
21:36I mean,
21:36stepping in there,
21:37like I just said,
21:37he sent me in
21:38with a boy called Sonny Arden.
21:40He did six,
21:40six sort of three minute rounds
21:42and he's caught me a few times.
21:44My legs went like Michael Jackson.
21:46You know what I mean?
21:47But yeah,
21:48it's been tough.
21:49You've done well?
21:49Yeah,
21:50it's okay.
21:50It didn't go down.
21:52But yeah,
21:53it's tough in the ring
21:54when you get in there,
21:55the training,
21:55obviously the fitness
21:57Kev's been putting me through.
21:59I find with a lot of sports people,
22:01we're all on the table
22:02but we're quite elite sports people.
22:04We've all got that sort of drive.
22:06So if you're doing something,
22:07we'll try and do it
22:08to our very best we can do it.
22:10So as in with the footballers here,
22:11they've always been,
22:12we're all competitive.
22:13We're all the same sort of people.
22:14So when they do,
22:16if they put their foot to anything
22:17or they put their minds
22:18to doing something,
22:19I suppose they're all pretty much the same.
22:22They're all quite game,
22:23very work hard.
22:25That's a certain type of factor.
22:26So it was easy to train,
22:27to be fair.
22:29What are you expecting then
22:30from your opponent,
22:31Jodie Morris?
22:32Hell.
22:34We've been inspiring him
22:35with midges actually.
22:36What am I expecting?
22:48He'll come in
22:48like he was as a player.
22:51He was a talented player
22:52and a fit player.
22:53A little terrier on the pitch.
22:55And he's going to come into the ring
22:57and give it all.
22:57He's focused now.
22:58Look, he's got the steely eye.
22:59He's going to say a little bit of things
23:00about him another week.
23:01No, I'm caning him.
23:03But he'll come in.
23:04And he's going to go for me.
23:07Probably like,
23:08and I want to dance around the ring
23:09like, you know,
23:11dancing in Marbella.
23:12But yeah,
23:14move him,
23:14stick behind me jab
23:15and then sort of,
23:16yeah,
23:16give him a good eye
23:17in with me right hook.
23:20Stay awake
23:20when that right hook will go.
23:22But yeah,
23:23no,
23:24looking forward to it
23:24on the night.
23:25I mean,
23:25we're raising money
23:26for beautiful charities
23:28and we're stacking.
23:29It'll be a great night.
23:30Players coming back together
23:31and having a tear up.
23:33But I am very,
23:34confident that I'll win the fight.
23:37Obviously,
23:38I've got a 10 minute walk in.
23:41Everyone else has got three minutes,
23:42but it's 10 minutes for me.
23:44And yeah,
23:45no,
23:45get in the ring
23:46and,
23:46you know,
23:47dance around,
23:48box his head off
23:49and knock him out.
23:49Even if you don't win the fight,
23:50at least you'll win the dance off later.
23:52Yeah,
23:52I've got no problem
23:53with the dance off later.
23:56Jodie,
23:56before I come to you,
23:57Darren,
23:58how has it been?
23:59If you just make sure
23:59that microphone
24:00is in front of you as well.
24:02How's it been?
24:03Training with Jodie?
24:04Good.
24:05I told Jodie
24:05when we first started this,
24:07I've trained about,
24:09well,
24:09it was 10 at the time
24:10and there's been two since.
24:12I've trained 12
24:13white-collar fighters now.
24:14None of them are lost.
24:16So straight away,
24:16Jodie,
24:17why are you sticking
24:18this pressure on me?
24:19Why are you putting
24:19this pressure on me?
24:20So yeah,
24:21he's with a Hall of Fame
24:22or white-collar coach.
24:25But yeah,
24:25look,
24:26I echo what Marvin said
24:27and Bentley said
24:27and this is a great cause.
24:31I am so honoured
24:32to be involved in it,
24:33being Ambassador Stacky.
24:34Well done for what you're doing
24:35and everyone here.
24:37Yeah,
24:37please get involved
24:38because it is a great cause.
24:39But the night itself
24:41is going to be special.
24:42It's going to be good.
24:43It's nice hearing the respect
24:45from the footballers
24:46giving boxing
24:48what it deserves.
24:48You know,
24:49it is tough.
24:49It is hard.
24:50So I've got an awful
24:51lot of respect
24:52for all these footballers
24:54getting in there
24:54and doing the toughest sport
24:56in the world.
24:57It really is,
24:57you know,
24:58though it is for charity.
24:59When that first bell goes
25:00with them all being competitive,
25:02they're going to give it
25:02absolutely everything.
25:04And yeah,
25:05I'm really looking forward to it.
25:06It's been tough.
25:07Training's been tough.
25:09He's been pole-axing
25:10every sparring partner
25:11we put in front of him.
25:12They've not been last
25:13in the distance.
25:14Don't start that.
25:14I've had to stop
25:16doing pads.
25:17My hands,
25:19my elbow,
25:19shoulders are in agony.
25:21So it's been an effort.
25:23It's been an effort.
25:24We're thinking of calling him
25:25Iron,
25:26as his nickname,
25:27the Crusher,
25:28Demolition Man,
25:29something along those.
25:30So I hope
25:31you can get him
25:32some big protection,
25:35Bentley.
25:35Big Edgard.
25:37Flamboyant.
25:37You might have to get
25:38Jodie some big gloves,
25:39but yeah,
25:40looking forward to it.
25:40If you just pass that
25:41mic down to Jodie.
25:43Jodie,
25:43it sounds like this is going
25:44to be a walk in the park
25:44for you,
25:45mate,
25:45with the way that
25:46training's been going.
25:46Yeah,
25:46he loves putting a bit
25:47of pressure on you,
25:48doesn't he?
25:49Yeah,
25:49listen,
25:50I feel like I'd just be
25:51repeating a load of things
25:52that the lads have been saying,
25:53but for me,
25:55the training side of it
25:55has been so difficult.
25:57Like,
25:57even just,
25:59and I'm maybe a little bit
26:00older than some of the lads here,
26:01but even just some of the pains
26:02that you're waking up with
26:03in the morning
26:04on your wrists
26:04and all that,
26:05where they're just not used
26:06to that type of work,
26:08but yeah,
26:09it's difficult.
26:10And I think,
26:11we kind of said the other day,
26:12I think when me and Dave
26:13was on Talk Sport,
26:14it's a little bit reminiscent
26:15of how pre-season used to be.
26:17You kind of knew
26:18that you was putting your body
26:20through it
26:20to then reap the rewards
26:22or the benefits
26:23at a later stage.
26:25And I definitely feel like
26:26it's probably something
26:27that everyone sitting up here
26:29that's been taking part
26:30is hoping to reap the benefits
26:33in a couple of weeks' time.
26:34And like I said,
26:36yeah,
26:36I'm looking forward to it.
26:37Every time you go back
26:39into the ring,
26:40if you're sparring
26:40or you're working
26:42on new combinations,
26:43I feel like you're maybe learning
26:45and getting a little bit better
26:46than you was last time,
26:47which is obviously a good thing.
26:50So hopefully I'll keep improving
26:52so the flamboyant dancer
26:54over there,
26:55I can land a couple of punches
26:57on him.
26:58And an honour for me as well
26:59to be opposite corner
27:01to Kevin Mitchell,
27:02I would say the greatest
27:04British boxer
27:05never to win a world title.
27:06Yeah,
27:08of course,
27:09yeah.
27:09And he's also a lot taller
27:11than what like
27:12everyone thinks,
27:13you know what I mean?
27:14He keeps digging me out
27:15from me out here,
27:15like I've been for a few
27:16pints of him.
27:17I've got Dave DeViro in the spa
27:18and his boyfriend.
27:21Jody,
27:21like you mentioned,
27:22Dave is already going to have
27:23his dancing shoes on,
27:24so how do you go about
27:25beating him?
27:27Well,
27:27I don't know.
27:27I saw that video
27:28where he was dancing
27:29at the race course
27:30and I think he thinks
27:32he's a really good dancer,
27:33but I think I'd smoke him
27:36on the dance floor
27:36and all.
27:37And there's a few
27:38of my teammates here
27:39that will attest to that.
27:40Marvel know.
27:40Stacky's seen me.
27:43Well,
27:43we could do that.
27:43We could do round two
27:44on the floor if you want.
27:46He just has to land.
27:49He just has to.
27:49Even a glance he'd blow
27:50and he'd start dancing.
27:52Not a chance.
27:53In all seriousness,
27:54though,
27:54as well,
27:54I mean,
27:55you've all talked about
27:56the amount of training,
27:57the amount of effort
27:58that you've all put into this
27:59and that includes
28:00the trainers as well.
28:03That surely,
28:04for both of you,
28:05means that winning's
28:06the only option
28:07on the night.
28:08Yeah,
28:08and it is.
28:09I know that not
28:10every trainer's here,
28:11but I'm lucky enough
28:14to have been
28:14kind of mates with Dale
28:16for a long time now.
28:17So the effect,
28:19I suppose,
28:19of the fact of him
28:20training me
28:20is maybe not as big
28:23as it maybe
28:23it would have been
28:24if I just met him
28:25for the first time.
28:26We're talking about
28:26a middleweight champion
28:27of the world
28:28and I know Dale
28:29was talking about
28:30Kev,
28:31who's a mate of his,
28:32but I've been
28:33to Kev's fights.
28:35You've got George Groves,
28:36I've been to his fights.
28:37James DeGalle,
28:38I've been to his fights.
28:38You know what I mean?
28:39So they're all people
28:39that we absolutely
28:41look up to
28:41and I've seen Dale
28:43when he was preparing
28:45for his fights
28:45and we were talking
28:46about it around the back
28:47there with all the lads
28:48just talking about
28:48how they used to make weight
28:49and I used to meet him
28:51for a coffee
28:51or go for a bit of lunch
28:53and he's not eating.
28:54You could see how dry he was
28:56because he was trying
28:56to make weight
28:57and the sacrifices
28:58that boxers put their body
29:00and themselves through
29:03to get to the level
29:05of which they get to
29:06is absolutely unbelievable
29:07and like I said,
29:09Kev touched on it
29:10saying that
29:10we've all played sport
29:12at a decent level,
29:13some world level
29:14and it's just something
29:17that you have to
29:18absolutely respect
29:19that they were good enough
29:21to get to that
29:22but also
29:23when you're so successful
29:24at that level
29:26just shows that
29:27people
29:28that have made it
29:29in boxing
29:30they've been sort of
29:30boxing from 7, 8, 9 years
29:32of age
29:32and it's the same
29:33with us from football
29:33but so to try and
29:35sort of improve
29:36your boxing skills
29:37and learn everything
29:39in sort of 6 to 8 weeks
29:40is extremely difficult
29:41and like Kev said
29:42I suppose
29:43the basics
29:44is what you're trying
29:46to learn
29:46and you're trying
29:47to get your body
29:47prepared
29:48and maybe
29:48the mental side of it
29:50taking a few digs
29:51before you actually
29:51go in the ring
29:52ain't the worst thing
29:53as you can tell
29:53by me eye
29:55I was going to say
29:56yeah was that
29:57a sparring injury
29:58there?
29:58Yeah yeah
29:58I got a decent
29:59hiding that day
30:01as well
30:01in sparring
30:03so yeah
30:03I was pleased
30:04I came out
30:05the other side
30:05of it
30:05and like
30:06Dave said
30:07not to sort of
30:08go down
30:09or stop
30:10coming forward
30:11you know what I mean
30:11so
30:11and the punches
30:12that I took
30:13off this
30:14this kid
30:14was I think
30:16miles heavier
30:16or stronger
30:17than what he's
30:17going to be
30:18when you said
30:19you took it
30:19I saw Darren
30:20go
30:20don't say that
30:21mate
30:21just finally
30:24I've heard a couple
30:24of you already
30:25as well
30:26say that
30:26actually after this
30:27even though it's
30:28been so difficult
30:28you want to carry
30:29on the training
30:30is that something
30:31you're looking
30:32to do as well
30:32do you think?
30:33Yeah well
30:33I tried to
30:35take part
30:36in some boxing
30:37training
30:37about four years
30:38ago
30:38and I've done
30:39my back
30:39on the first
30:40proper session
30:40where I went
30:41into
30:41sort of
30:42doing proper
30:43sparring
30:43and
30:44I purposely
30:45this time round
30:46went
30:47I'm going to
30:47try and get
30:48my body
30:48in better nick
30:49when I first
30:50start
30:50because it
30:50was a shock
30:51to the system
30:51when I
30:52when I've done
30:53it
30:53so
30:53taking part
30:55in like the
30:56training
30:56and the
30:57kind of
30:57general fitness
30:58side of it
30:58is brilliant
30:59and you feel
30:59like you're
31:00getting
31:00fitter
31:01but there's
31:01an element
31:01of where
31:02I started
31:03losing
31:03weight
31:04and I'm
31:07like I can't
31:07afford to
31:08lose any more
31:08weight
31:09obviously
31:09he's a lot
31:11bigger than
31:11me
31:11so you go
31:11you take
31:13that fitness
31:14side
31:14and you're
31:16taking a
31:17few
31:17digs
31:17you take
31:19the fitness
31:20side of it
31:20but you're
31:21going
31:21you also
31:21like the
31:22lads are
31:22saying
31:23you want
31:23to make
31:23sure your
31:24protein
31:24shakes
31:25and creatine
31:26and thankfully
31:27they've been
31:27kicking in
31:28of late
31:28as they were
31:29saying
31:29like the
31:29power and
31:31the punches
31:31have been
31:31going through
31:32the roof
31:32that's better
31:35mate
31:35that's better
31:36brilliant stuff
31:37I just want
31:37to get a
31:38last word
31:38from Graham
31:39if you could
31:39pass the
31:39mic back
31:39down
31:40Graham
31:41having spoken
31:42to all of
31:42these
31:43fighters
31:43I think
31:44the main
31:45thing that
31:45comes across
31:46is actually
31:47the commitment
31:48that all of
31:48these lads are
31:49putting in
31:49and that
31:50will to win
31:50yeah
31:51absolutely
31:52I mean
31:52look
31:53most of us
31:54here if not
31:55all of us
31:55are dads
31:55parents
31:56kids
31:57got school
31:57runs
31:58some of us
31:59work
31:59full time
32:00juggling jobs
32:01juggling family
32:02or trying to
32:03find the time
32:04to commit to
32:05training
32:05morning runs
32:06evening runs
32:07sparring
32:08gym sessions
32:08that's a huge
32:10commitment
32:11that's time
32:12away from
32:13your family
32:13which is
32:14I haven't
32:15spoken to
32:15the lads
32:15I think
32:16one or two
32:16of their
32:16missus
32:17is sort of
32:18looking to
32:18file for
32:18divorce at
32:19the minute
32:19because they're
32:19just not
32:20at home
32:20but I think
32:22ultimately
32:23partners and
32:24family can
32:25probably see
32:26the benefits
32:27that they're
32:27probably getting
32:27out of it
32:28and sort of
32:30the long term
32:30gains from
32:31that
32:31so look
32:32I couldn't
32:33be proud
32:34this was
32:35something that
32:36started off
32:36for me
32:36that was
32:37I was
32:38guilty of
32:39being lazy
32:40and trying
32:40to find
32:40something to
32:41have a bit
32:43of a focus
32:43on and maybe
32:44try and find
32:44some structure
32:45so this is
32:46one thing that
32:47I found that
32:47was going to
32:48help me
32:48massively
32:48it just so
32:50happens that
32:51I've got a
32:52load of other
32:53people that have
32:53come on this
32:54journey with me
32:54now and
32:55this is something
32:56that I want to
32:56continue doing
32:57now for years
32:58and years to
32:59come
32:59I've said
33:00before I'm
33:01not a boxing
33:01promoter
33:02that that's
33:03not what I'm
33:04here to do
33:04I'm here to
33:05put a group
33:06of people
33:06together
33:07a lot of
33:08great people
33:09to raise
33:09a lot of
33:10money
33:11and look
33:12we've got
33:12plans
33:13all going
33:13well this
33:14time round
33:14I'd like to
33:15go up to
33:15Liverpool
33:16in April
33:16or May
33:17I'd like to
33:17get 10
33:18northern-based
33:18fighters
33:19to put on
33:20a show up
33:21in Liverpool
33:21and then
33:23return back
33:23in here
33:24next October
33:25and have
33:2610 of the
33:28best
33:28so this is
33:29something I'm
33:30looking to do
33:30hopefully the
33:31boys I've got
33:32sat here now
33:32will come
33:34out the
33:34other side
33:34and just
33:35the adulation
33:36on fight
33:37night
33:37win or
33:38lose
33:39I've been
33:39told by
33:40both Bucks
33:41and Kev
33:41that there's
33:42no better
33:43feeling than
33:44getting in the
33:44ring
33:44it's probably
33:44the closest
33:45these boys
33:45are going to
33:45get to
33:46scoring a
33:47goal
33:47or Paddy's
33:48case saving
33:48a penalty
33:48because
33:49you lose
33:52that
33:52people tend
33:55not to
33:56pick the
33:57phone up
33:57anymore
33:57or you're
33:58no longer
33:58a superstar
33:59when you're
33:59walking down
33:59a local
34:00high street
34:00but I think
34:00this would
34:01give the
34:01boys a bit
34:01of a lift
34:01I can see
34:03that there's
34:04definitely a
34:05buzz
34:05if you're
34:05in a
34:05changing room
34:06pretty similar
34:07to being
34:07in there
34:07where you've
34:08got 8,
34:099,
34:0910 lads
34:09around you
34:10that want
34:11to win
34:12I think
34:13it's going
34:13to be a
34:14cracking
34:14night
34:15it really
34:15will be
34:15and obviously
34:16once again
34:17I can't
34:18thank the
34:19lads
34:19trainers
34:20world
34:21superstars
34:21put up
34:22their time
34:23not just
34:25these two
34:25sitting there
34:26Dave Coldwell
34:27George Groves
34:28people have
34:29all committed
34:30in helping
34:30us
34:31so that's
34:32a massive
34:32thing for
34:33me
34:33moving
34:34forward
34:34thank you
34:36to them
34:36and just
34:37finally
34:38of course
34:38boxing
34:39a massive
34:39part of
34:40the night
34:40but what
34:41an occasion
34:42we've got
34:42three course
34:43meal
34:43Alfie Bo
34:44is going
34:44to be
34:44performing
34:45there's the
34:46after party
34:46David Bentley
34:47is going to
34:47show off
34:48his moonwalk
34:49just speak
34:50about it
34:50as the
34:51occasion
34:51of course
34:51the cause
34:52that we're
34:53all here
34:53for as well
34:54this is not
34:56just a
34:57white collar
34:58boxing
34:58night
34:59we've got
35:01Alfie Bo
35:01performing
35:01who's been
35:02on a tour
35:03with Michael
35:03Ball
35:03he's world
35:04famous
35:04he's probably
35:05arguably one
35:05of the best
35:06tenors in the
35:06world
35:06we've got
35:08Peter Crouch
35:08Paul Merson
35:09and Ray

35:13boxing ring
35:13doing a
35:13Q&A
35:14it's never
35:14been done
35:15we've got
35:17Martin
35:17Bayfield
35:18doing the
35:19auction
35:19who is
35:20obviously
35:21probably
35:22arguably
35:22the best
35:23in the
35:23country
35:23obviously
35:25got a
35:25sporting
35:25history
35:25as well
35:26with
35:27British
35:27and Irish
35:27Lions
35:28and we've
35:29also got
35:29two of
35:31the best
35:31DJs
35:32I've probably
35:33had in my
35:33lifetime
35:33in Alex
35:34P and
35:35Brandon
35:35Block
35:35so look
35:37it's going

35:38of entertainment
35:38there'll be
35:39some unbelievable
35:40people there

35:50these guys
35:51are going
35:51to be here
